Last time on NTLHOS:

Just as the tension seemed ready to snap, Sukino's expression transformed, her earlier madness giving way to a dangerous, calculating gleam. She clapped her hands together, the sudden noise startling in the otherwise silent room, and her grin broadened, like a cat that had just cornered a mouse with no escape.

"But I have a plan," she announced, her voice dripping with mischief and confidence. "Let's play a new gambit. The boy might have played the queen's gambit and made us feel rather small, but we still have pieces on the board. Let's see how well he handles the King's Gambit."

Now:

As Naruto reached the Tower, now his fortress that had stood the test of time, he could feel the subtle yet undeniable presence of ANBU and Jonin operatives surrounding the building. They were well-hidden, their movements silent, their chakra signatures expertly suppressed—but not enough to evade his keen senses. Likely orchestrated by the Third Hokage himself, the agents were placed to ensure Naruto did not slip away or engage in any clandestine activities.

However, the Tower was no ordinary building. It had been constructed under the supervision of Lady Mito Uzumaki, one of the greatest seal mistresses to ever live, and was a fortress in the truest sense. Its defenses were complex—layered with seals and illusions designed to protect its secrets from even the most skilled infiltrators. Naruto couldn't help but chuckle at the futility of the ANBU's efforts. Did they really think they could penetrate the Tower's ancient defenses by merely sensing from the outside? The Tower had been built to withstand greater threats than a few elite shinobi. Unless those outside were on par with legends like Hashirama or Tobirama Senju, their attempts would be in vain.

This was nothing more than a display of power by the Third Hokage, a reminder that even within the walls of the Uzumaki Tower, Naruto was being watched. But Hiruzen Sarutobi surely knew that breaching the Tower would be an impossible task without tearing down the very stones. The realization brought Naruto a small sense of satisfaction—he was safe, for now. The Tower was his sanctuary, and his enemies understood this.

As Naruto stepped onto the underground platform—a secure and hidden area known only to a select few—he sensed the presence of several figures approaching. Every person who entered the Tower was subjected to rigorous security checks via discreet seals embedded throughout the passageways. No one—ally or enemy—could bypass these safeguards without the proper authorization, and Naruto trusted the seals implicitly.

The first to greet him were Kamado and Lady Sura.

"Would you like something to eat, my prince?" Lady Sura asked with a respectful bow.

Naruto, however, was focused on more pressing matters. "There's no time for that," he replied curtly but not unkindly. "I need to meet with our allies in the conference room immediately. Please make the necessary arrangements."

Lady Sura nodded with calm assurance. "I have already tasked the servants to prepare the room, my prince."

Naruto offered a brief smile in gratitude. "Thank you, Lady Sura."

He then turned to Kamado, his expression shifting to one of satisfaction. "I'm impressed, Kamado. Orchestrating such a display in such a short amount of time—remarkable."

Kamado bowed deeply, pride beaming from his face. "It was no trouble at all, my prince. I live to serve the Uzumaki line."

Inside, Kamado and Sura were elated, though Kamado took great care to keep his emotions in check. For years, he had observed the young prince with anticipation, waiting for the Uzumaki main line to rise once again. When he had first met Naruto, Kamado had been filled with a sense of destiny—here was the heir to the Uzumaki legacy, a prince born to lead. He had vowed never to fail Naruto as he had once failed Kushina, Naruto's mother.

As time passed, Kamado had watched with awe as Naruto demonstrated his ingenuity and tactical brilliance. The alliance with the Uchiha clan, shocking to many, was a stroke of genius. The Uchiha were a powerful and respected clan, one that could stand as equals with the Uzumaki. Naruto had seen the potential in such an alliance and seized the opportunity.

Then came Naruto's ambitious plan to revive the Uzumaki hegemony in trade and craftsmanship, using the Tower as its central hub. Initially, Kamado had thought the plan too lofty, even for someone with Naruto's talents. But once again, the prince had proven him wrong. He had reworked Konoha's trade routes, making the Uchiha central to the network, which would have solidified the Uzumaki influence. The plan had been nearly successful—until the meddlesome interference from Hiruzen Sarutobi.

When sanctions were imposed on the Tower, the Uchiha, and the Kurama clans, fury swept through their ranks—particularly among the Uchiha. They had wanted to take up arms immediately, ready to defend what they believed was rightfully theirs. However, Kamado and the other prominent members of the Tower had urged caution, advising a different approach. They suggested shutting down the Barrier, the most powerful defense mechanism protecting Konoha—a move that would cripple the village's defenses entirely. Since an Uzumaki held authority over the Tower, his decision, under the old treaties, would have been legally binding until a new contract was signed. It was a threat Lady Kushina had often used in the past.

Despite this opportunity, Naruto had been against such drastic measures. Kamado had felt a pang of disappointment at the time, believing the prince was avoiding an open confrontation with the Council. In Kamado's eyes, Naruto was an Uzumaki by blood, destined to rule by birthright. If it were up to Kamado, Naruto would have already been Hokage, with the rest of the village bowing before him.

But then the prince had done something even more impressive. He didn't need to destroy Konoha's defenses or risk civil war to weaken the Hokage's power. Instead, Naruto cut the wings of the Sarutobi alliance by neutralizing the Yamanaka and Akimichi clans. Kamado marveled at the brilliance of it. The prince even managed to initiate trade negotiations with these clans, effectively putting the Third Hokage on the defensive. It was a subtle move, but one that reminded Kamado why Naruto was a leader worth following.

Today, Kamado was ecstatic. A day earlier, he had received an urgent message detailing what had happened in Kusa. His prince had achieved the impossible—he had put down a Sannin, no less than Orochimaru. Kamado had shed tears of joy when he learned that Uzumaki still walked the earth, especially female Uzumaki. When he read of the torment Naruto had rescued them from, his blood boiled. He was ready to take up arms, political consequences be damned. But upon reading further, Kamado felt a deep sense of satisfaction—Naruto had exacted vengeance for their suffering, as only an Uzumaki could.

The most important part of the message came next. The prince ordered Kamado to send a small, skilled force in absolute secrecy to meet him at a hidden location and bring the Uzumaki mother and daughter to the Tower through one of its secret tunnels. He warned of heightened security at all checkpoints and intense patrols throughout the Land of Fire. Kamado had sent the message to his son, Ivagin, knowing it would be an honor for him to carry out such an important task. Ivagin had been nearby, returning from a trade negotiation in the Land of Bears, making him the perfect candidate.

Kamado hadn't stopped there. The prince had also enlisted Shisui Uchiha's help. Shisui's formidable abilities ensured that Lady Kana Uzumaki and her daughter were escorted into the village without raising suspicion. From there, they had used one of the secret tunnels to bring them safely into the Tower. Kamado had personally welcomed the mother and daughter into their new sanctuary.

But that wasn't the end of it.

The prince had ordered Kamado to set the stage for an intricate trap—one that would leave their enemies scrambling. The confrontation with the Hokage needed to reach a boiling point but never boil over. It was a delicate balance, a test of their tactical finesse. Naruto understood that one wrong move could tip the scales into chaos, but he was confident in his plan.

One specific order had intrigued Kamado the most. The prince had instructed him to communicate with the Uchiha, but explicitly to avoid involving Fugaku, the clan head, or his heir, Itachi. This was a calculated decision—Fugaku was too entwined with the village's leadership, and Itachi's loyalties were far too complex. Instead, Kamado had met with the aged Lord Mahiro Uchiha in the dead of night to ensure that everything was ready.

Mahiro had listened carefully as Kamado laid out the prince's plan. The older Uchiha's face betrayed little emotion, but there was a glint of understanding in his eyes. Mahiro had then instructed two younger Uchiha, Yashiro and Inabi, both known for their willingness to challenge the village's status quo. Their task: remind Konoha of who they were dealing with and ensure the village knew its place.

Despite their occasional disagreements with Naruto's more cautious approach, Yashiro and Inabi had followed his instructions to the letter. The Uchiha clan was not known for bending easily to outside influence, but they revered Naruto in their own way. They saw in him a leader who understood power and strategy. Even if they sometimes chafed at his restraint, they trusted his judgment.

The plan had unfolded flawlessly. The next evening, when the barrier detected Naruto's presence, Kamado had coordinated the Uchiha's movements perfectly. With his chakra flaring and the Uchiha arriving like a storm, the pressure on the ANBU had become unbearable. The ANBU were forced to let Naruto speak, and the situation played out exactly as the prince had predicted.

Everything had gone according to plan. The Third Hokage, the ANBU, even the crowd—they had all been manipulated into reacting precisely how Naruto wanted. The trap within the trap had worked seamlessly, and Kamado couldn't help but feel a deep sense of pride in what had been achieved.

Naka Shrine:

Meanwhile, deep within the Uchiha compound, the clan had gathered in the sacred halls of the Naka Shrine. The air was thick with tension. The shrine, usually reserved for the most solemn of meetings, was now filled with Uchiha elders, jonin, and high-ranking nobles. But what struck everyone as unusual was the presence of Itachi Uchiha, seated beside his father. The young heir, who often refused to attend such gatherings, now sat calmly, his expression unreadable.

Fugaku Uchiha, the clan head, was a storm of conflicting emotions. On the one hand, he was furious—furious that decisions were being made behind his back, that his clan was nearly dragged into a potential civil war without his knowledge. But on the other hand, there was a flicker of pride. His son—his pride and joy—was finally stepping into his role. Today, however, the anger outweighed the pride. The recent events, orchestrated without his consent, had threatened to embroil the Uchiha clan in a situation that could spiral into catastrophe. His tolerance of the Uzumaki alliance, even the recent successes of the clan, had been mistaken for weakness. To allow his clan to be manipulated into insubordination was unforgivable.

The atmosphere was tense, thick with unspoken words. It was Lord Mahiro who finally broke the silence, his voice smooth and confident, as if oblivious to the palpable tension in the room. "Why have you called us, Lord Fugaku? We must conclude this meeting as quickly as possible. According to the message we received fifteen minutes ago, the council meeting has been delayed by two more hours. We have four hours remaining. Additionally, Lord Uzumaki has summoned a meeting of our alliance."

Fugaku's gaze darkened. His Sharingan flared briefly before he quelled his rage, but his voice carried a dangerous edge. "Oh? And is it you who now decides when meetings begin and end in the Uchiha clan, Lord Mahiro? Do you believe you rule this clan?" His words hung in the air like a blade, sharp and threatening.

The room fell silent, the weight of his words stifling any response.

"My clan—my Uchiha—was nearly dragged into a full-scale civil war today, and I had no knowledge of it," Fugaku continued, his voice now a low growl of restrained fury. "Do you even understand the consequences of your actions? The Third Hokage was prepared to massacre anyone and everyone he deemed a rebel. And yet, my own clan walked straight into the trap set by the elders, fully aware of what awaited them. An important decision was made without my consent or permission. What some of you have done today borders on treason. And this time, I will take action. The guilty will be punished."

As Fugaku's words rang out, his Sharingan flared once more, his gaze sweeping over the key figures involved in the day's events. The tension in the room grew thicker as each Uchiha felt the weight of his unspoken accusation.

It was Inabi Uchiha who finally stood, bowing his head in respect as he addressed his clan head. "My lord, it was never our intention to defy you. We acted out of urgency, but we are ready to accept any punishment you deem fit. You must understand—when we were at our lowest, when it was Uchiha against the entirety of the village, it was Lord Uzumaki who stood by us, by virtue of his bond with Shisui."

A murmur of agreement rippled through the room, some of the tension easing as Inabi spoke.

"While the village blamed us for the Kyubi incident and ostracized us from our rightful place, Lord Uzumaki remained loyal to the clan," Inabi continued, his voice growing stronger with conviction. "He is the leader of the Tower, and like us, he has faced discrimination from the village. But what he endured is nothing compared to what we face—the burden of being unjustly blamed for the Kyubi incident. If Lord Uzumaki had chosen to, he could have used the power of the Tower, allied himself with other clans, and easily washed away the stain of being an outsider. But he didn't. He stood by us. He has stood by us through every trial."

Fugaku's eyes narrowed, but he remained silent, allowing Inabi to continue.

"And more than that, Lord Uzumaki built a powerful alliance. He dismantled the Sarutobi faction, weakening them in a way no one else could. Where are our old allies? Most of them abandoned us when we stood against the elders. But Lord Uzumaki stayed with us, even when others would not."

Inabi's fists clenched at his sides as he continued. "We no longer go to war. We barely take missions outside the village. It's as if the world has forgotten that we are one of the three great clans of Konoha. Even the Hyuga now claim that their dojutsu is superior to ours. I may not agree with Lord Uzumaki's more passive approach, but I will not stand here and allow anyone to say that the Uchiha are ungrateful. Today, the only reason we still have any standing in this village is because of the alliance that Lord Uzumaki built for us. And what remains of our reputation as a founding clan, though no one seems to care about that anymore."

The room stirred with murmurs of agreement, the weight of Inabi's words hanging heavily in the air.

But just as the room began to settle, another voice cut through the tension like a blade—unexpected and commanding.

It was Itachi Uchiha.

He stood slowly, his normally impassive face displaying an emotion rarely seen from him—something that bordered on frustration. His dark eyes, usually so composed, now held a weight that drew every gaze in the room. The intensity of his presence demanded attention. "Is this how the clan functions now?" he asked, his voice soft yet filled with an unmistakable firmness. "Individual members making decisions on behalf of the entire clan, without any consultation?"

The room fell into a profound silence, the gravity of Itachi's question sending ripples through the crowd. It was rare for Itachi to speak up during these meetings, but when he did, his words carried the weight of a thousand silent thoughts.

"What if Lord Third had decided today that we were rebels because of your reckless actions?" Itachi's voice, though calm, carried a sharp edge that pierced through the quiet. "Would the entire clan bear the consequences of your impulsiveness? Have you considered that?" His gaze swept across the room, challenging each of the elders and high-ranking members present. He wasn't simply speaking to the younger members like Inabi or Yashiro; he was speaking to everyone, holding them accountable.

"Our ancestors built this village alongside the Senju," Itachi continued, his voice steady but tinged with a rare intensity. "We ended the era of constant warfare and bloodshed, and together, we forged an age of peace and civilization. From individuals, we became families. From families, we built a clan. And from clans, we created this village. This village was not built on selfishness, but on the collective strength of those who believed in something greater than themselves."

Itachi paused, his words hanging in the air like a challenge. "And now, you're suggesting that we dishonor the very foundation our forefathers laid by acting out of pride and bitterness?" His voice was quiet but resolute, a sharp contrast to the raw emotion in the room.

His words struck deep, hitting the pride and ego of every Uchiha present. It wasn't just an ideological difference—it was a challenge to the way the clan had been operating, to the choices they had made in recent years. For some, Itachi's words were a sobering reminder of the clan's once-great legacy. For others, they stung, a reflection of how far they had fallen.

Fugaku, still seated beside his son, watched Itachi closely. For the first time, he saw his son stepping into the role he had always hoped for—speaking not just as his heir, but as a leader in his own right. Itachi was challenging the status quo, forcing the clan to look at itself with fresh eyes, and Fugaku couldn't help but feel a swell of pride. Yet, that pride was tempered by the knowledge that his son's ideals, while noble, were likely to be met with resistance.

Before anyone could fully absorb the impact of Itachi's words, another voice—this time filled with barely restrained anger—erupted.

Yashiro Uchiha stood abruptly, his face flushed with frustration, ready to retort. His fury was palpable, and it was clear that he had no patience for Itachi's idealism. But before Yashiro could speak, an unexpected figure intervened.

It was Shisui Uchiha.

"Always the idealist, aren't you, Itachi?" Shisui's voice, though calm, carried an edge that hadn't been heard before. "And where has your so-called evolution left our clan? At the edge of the village, isolated?"

The shock in the room was immediate. Shisui, the ever-loyal idealist, who had always advocated for balance between the village and the clan, now appeared to be standing in opposition to Itachi? Even Itachi, known for his composure, seemed surprised.

Shisui's eyes, usually filled with quiet contemplation, now held a trace of anguish—anguish born from disillusionment. "I used to believe as you did, Itachi," Shisui continued, his voice steady but heavy with the burden of realization. "I believed that the village came first, that the needs of the many outweighed the needs of the few. But over time, Naruto made me see another truth. We strive for a greater cause, yes, but it should never come at the cost of the very foundation that holds this village together. You speak of individuals becoming families, families becoming clans, and clans building a village. But what happens when those very bricks that build this structure—like us—are weakened or destroyed? Are we expected to sacrifice our identity for the village? And if we do, what is the village for? Who is it for, Itachi?"

Shisui's words, though dangerously close to treason, were met with stunned silence. His voice carried a weight, a sincerity that had the power to sway even the most hardened minds in the room.

"The Third Hokage and his council have done little for us in the half-century they've held power," Shisui pressed on, his voice stronger now. "We didn't follow Madara Uchiha because we believed in the 'greater cause' of the First Hokage. But where has that led us? When the time came for the appointment of the Second Hokage, the promise of an Uchiha Hokage was not fulfilled. Instead, a Senju was chosen. While I accept the necessity of that decision—Lord Tobirama's appointment was necessary for the time, and the village could not have continued if anyone else had become Hokage—he institutionalized the village's systems to ensure it could function without him. He understood our power. He gave us the police force, and with it, immense political and social influence. People forget that we were given the right to form our own regiment during wartime by the second."

Shisui's gaze darkened as he locked eyes with Fugaku, and for a brief moment, an uncomfortable exchange passed between them. "Then came the Third Hokage. Initially, he treated us fairly, but as the old guard passed away, he allowed his counselors to turn against us, and at every opportunity, he protected them. We regained some standing when the Fourth Hokage took office, but even he was subjected to the biases of the elders, his sensei and his sensei's sensei. Then, after the Kyubi attack, we were driven out of our homes under the pretext of village security. The council exploited some of our debts, leaving us blamed and shunned," he said, looking directly at Fugaku. "Where were our allies then?"

Shisui's voice rang out louder now, filled with frustration. "We've given everything to this village, and what have we received in return? I ask again: what have we gained from this sacrifice?"

The silence that followed Shisui's words was deafening. Every eye in the room turned towards Fugaku, waiting to see how he would respond. For the first time in his leadership, Fugaku felt a flicker of doubt. Shisui had always been the voice of reason within the Uchiha clan, the idealist who believed that harmony between the village and the clan was not just possible but essential. For him to speak so openly, so harshly, about these grievances was not just unexpected—it was deeply troubling.

It wasn't that Fugaku believed Shisui was wrong. In fact, that was precisely the problem. Shisui's words struck at truths that many in the room had been unwilling to face. For years, whispers had circulated within the clan that Shisui, not Fugaku, was the rightful heir to the Uchiha leadership. That sentiment had never fully died, lingering like a ghost in the shadows. For Shisui to challenge him so publicly, and in such a volatile environment, could unravel the fragile unity Fugaku had fought so hard to maintain. It threatened not only his authority but also the clan's future.

To make matters worse, Shisui had publicly questioned the debt Fugaku's father had owed to the Third Hokage—an uncomfortable truth that Fugaku had never fully addressed with the clan. It was this debt that had led to the Uchiha's forced relocation to the outskirts of the village, a move that had crippled their influence and tarnished their standing. For Shisui to bring it up now, in front of the entire clan, was a blow that Fugaku hadn't anticipated. It stung, and it laid bare a chapter of history that many in the clan had tried to forget.

The silence was abruptly shattered by Fugaku, his voice steady but filled with the authority of a leader who would not tolerate disobedience. "Naruto Uzumaki has overstepped his bounds by orchestrating insubordination within my clan," he began, his gaze sweeping across the room, sharp as a blade. His words hit the room like a thunderclap, and all eyes turned to him, many filled with uncertainty. Fugaku's gaze lingered on Shisui, a silent accusation hanging in the air. "Therefore, the alliance with the Tower will be terminated—regardless of some of your personal views," he declared, his tone unwavering. The tension mounted as his eyes flicked to each of the Uchiha, daring anyone to speak against him. "And as for those involved in today's fiasco, you will be punished and made an example of—let this serve as a warning to anyone considering insubordination." His voice held a dangerous edge, the kind that spoke of consequences far worse than just words. A ripple of unease passed through the room as people exchanged nervous glances, the gravity of Fugaku's words sinking in. Shisui, though composed, showed a flicker of tension at the blatant warning directed at him.

"The Uchiha will no longer support the alliance with the Tower, nor will we aid Naruto Uzumaki in any shape or form in the coming council meeting. We are loyal shinobi of the Leaf and will not let it be divided," Fugaku finished, his declaration final. The decision hung over the room, choking out any immediate response. Shock and disbelief rippled through the assembled Uchiha, some unable to mask their surprise. Shisui remained silent, but his usual easygoing demeanor was gone, replaced by a sense of quiet anger. Itachi, sitting next to his father, gave a subtle nod of agreement, his expression unreadable but the gesture unmistakable—Itachi would stand by his father's decision.
