Amidst the explosion of the Fire Style, the Iwa Chunin was utterly reduced to ashes.
The three members of Kei's team set off quickly, now having a clearer objective in mind.
However, Kei was not entirely pleased as he glanced at his two companions. These two were too smart for his liking, making it somewhat unbearable for him.
Unfortunately, Kei genuinely needed their strength. He couldn't accomplish these tasks alone.
Although Kei suspected that the ninjas currently guarding the prisoners were likely Genin, there was always a chance that a Jonin hadn't gone to the front lines and was still guarding the rear.
Kei's thought process was straightforward. Knowing the trends of the future, he was naturally inclined to make small investments without affecting his own interests.
As for rescuing people? That was merely to better complete the mission.
One could easily imagine what these captured ninjas had gone through. They harbored deep hatred for the Iwa ninjas, and some might even be filled with terror towards them.
Nevertheless, their survival indicated that they hadn't divulged any information—confessing wouldn't ensure their survival; on the contrary, those who lost their value were usually the first to be eliminated.
With the war on two fronts, logistics, support, and guarantees required time to be fulfilled. The Iwa ninjas wouldn't entrust such matters to 'worthless' traitors.
Of course, all of this was Kei's speculation, but he believed his guesses were accurate—given the existence of Genjutsu, there was no need to keep such chaotic matters concealed.
Those still alive were simply because their will was relatively strong and hadn't broken under Genjutsu and torture.
Kei and his team's goal was simple: rescue these individuals and use their hatred towards the Iwa ninjas to accomplish their mission.
It must be said that this tactic was quite unscrupulous. Hatred could cloud judgment, and even in their weakened state, causing chaos in the Iwa rear lines wouldn't be difficult for them.
As for how many would survive, that was beyond Kei's concern.
Their task was merely to rescue these people and subtly reveal their mission, prompting these individuals to find ways to get involved and provide some assistance.
Even if they were unwilling to help, Kei could 'accidentally' let an Iwa ninja escape to relay some information.
In this way, the entire Iwa rear lines would be distracted, fulfilling the objective for Minato's team.
But such plans were deadly secrets, not to be spoken of.
However, both Hyuga Aya and Kenta quickly grasped Kei's intentions, showing they were quite ruthless in their desire to survive and intelligent enough to be useful.
What puzzled Kei was why such smart individuals didn't leave any mark in the original story?
After thinking it over, Kei concluded that this mission likely resulted in their deaths, or they simply became traitors.
Such a mission indeed had a slim chance of survival. Whether Minato's team succeeded or failed, those 'attracting hatred' were undoubtedly cannon fodder.
If the mission failed, these pawns would have to continue fulfilling Minato's task as an 'unspoken rule.'
And if it succeeded, it would be even worse. They would face the most ferocious retaliation from the Iwa ninjas, a situation bound to result in death.
As for becoming traitors? That was simpler—just slashing their foreheads and fleeing the battlefield, finding a small corner to hide away from the Five Great Nations' conflicts.
Although they could never rise in the war-torn ninja world, at least they would survive.
To Kei, staying alive was more important than anything. If it came to that, he wouldn't mind taking such a step.
After all, if death was certain, why not take a chance at survival? Moreover, he hadn't forgotten the future where the Uchiha clan would be annihilated.
The trio advanced cautiously for two days until they encountered the group of Konoha ninjas being escorted to the Iwa rear lines.
By this time, they were technically within the Iwa rear lines, frequently encountering Iwa patrols.
Hyuga Aya, responsible for reconnaissance, was crucial. Without her, they might have run into several Iwa patrols.
"There are four guards, a complete team," Hyuga Aya said after observing with her Byakugan. "There are six Konoha ninjas, but they're in pretty bad shape."
"As expected," Kei nodded, then asked, "Where's the nearest support point?"
"About three to four kilometers from here, moving in the opposite direction. If we act quickly, we can rescue them," Hyuga Aya replied, closing her Byakugan and looking at Kei.
"Captain, maybe we can approach them from the front," Imai Kenta suggested with a smile. "We could set some traps, like explosive tags. It might have a good effect."
Setting traps was a common ninja tactic, especially for a team escorting prisoners moving slowly.
They could predict the route and set traps accordingly, which wasn't difficult for them.
Imai Kenta's suggestion aligned with Kei's thoughts. Using explosive tags would cause a commotion and attract enemies, which was precisely what they needed. Otherwise, Hyuga Aya wouldn't have avoided mentioning 'quiet handling.'
"Too conspicuous," Kei shook his head after some thought. "Our task is to rescue, not to attract a large number of enemies."
Pausing briefly, he continued, "Set some traps. Once they step into them, you two will attack from the flanks while I pressure them with Fire Release from the front. Understood?"
"Understood, Captain," the two replied, quickly catching on to Kei's plan and began their preparations.
Explosive tags were indeed useful, but conventional methods might yield better results in this case.
Soon, the trio set up a simple trap and hid in three positions in the forest, quietly waiting for their prey to step into their snare.
