Capítulo 46: 46. The Drowner Transfiguration Spell.

"Ugh…"

The Witcher apprentice leaned against a larch tree, clutching his stomach, dry-heaving uncontrollably. Initially, he had been excited about the portal journey. Before entering, he kept his eyes wide open, afraid to miss any magnificent sights. But once inside, the world turned upside down.

Vision, smell, touch, magic perception.

Each sense provided Allen with a spatial awareness, yet each sense's spatial feedback differed. Vision told him he was moving straight; smell felt like he was taking detours. The touch sensed wind direction, warning him he was upside down. This made the Witcher apprentice feel terribly sick, unable to focus on appreciating or observing the scenery inside the portal.

"Here."

The sorceress handed over a bottle of emerald green potion.

"Thank you."

Allen didn't think twice and drank it in one gulp. As soon as the potion went down his throat, the sensory confusion disappeared. Seeing the ornate bottle, Allen wisely refrained from asking about the potion's cost and thanked her again. The sorceress shook her head and said nothing.

After recovering from the discomfort, the Witcher apprentice looked around. The lake mirrored the sky and clouds, a gentle cold breeze blew, and green grass and trees surrounded them. This was Killer Lake. But there were no corpses scattered as he had imagined.

"I went to the other side earlier," Vera saw through the apprentice's thoughts, "there aren't many drowners left there. You can conduct your experiment here."

"Isn't it… isn't it a problem to kill so many drowners there?" Allen couldn't help but ask.

"I didn't kill the one-eyed giant, just a few drowners."

The sorceress's nonchalant reply made the Witcher apprentice gulp.

Just a few drowners?

That pile of bones must have come from at least a thousand drowners!

Is this the legendary Blood Red Fox?

Allen marveled internally, though his face remained expressionless. He took out the newly made drowner whistle and gently blew it.

"Croak—croak—"

Allen realized that the sound the whistle emitted was very similar to the drowner king's call. But yesterday, the drowner king didn't exhibit any ability to call for its companions.

Strange!

Putting the drowner whistle away, Allen stood quietly with the sorceress, waiting.

After about two minutes, the lake surface "stirred." The green mirror-like surface suddenly rippled, waves moving from far away towards Allen and Vera.

"Vera, those ripples are the drowners?" Allen pointed at the ripples.

Vera nodded, still watching. Allen scratched his head.

Having seen the drowner whistle's effect, shouldn't they leave now?

"Vera, should we…"

"Yesterday, these drowners nearly took your life?" Vera looked at Allen expressionlessly.

The Witcher apprentice paused and nodded.

At this moment, the once calm lake surface was now filled with crimson fins. Though there seemed to be fewer than yesterday, it was clearly still beyond what Allen could handle. But Vera remained unmoved; she seemed to be waiting for something.

"Could it be for me?"

Allen shook his head, dismissing this absurd thought, mocking himself.

"How narcissistic would I have to be to think that?"

The first drowner stepped onto the grassy shore. It was only twenty to thirty meters away from where Allen and Vera stood. If this were yesterday, escape would have been impossible. But Vera stood firm, apparently waiting for something.

"What is she planning?"

Allen wondered, face devoid of any expression. He drew Elsa as the drowners approached.

Vera slightly turned her beautiful eyes, a small smile forming at the corner of her mouth: "Watch closely, Allen, this is true alchemy!"

"Snap!"

A snap of her fingers.

A bottle of blood-red potion appeared in the sorceress's left hand. Ignoring the grotesque drowners closing in, Vera uncorked the crystal bottle, her soft lips parting slightly. Then she gently blew.

The red liquid vanished in an instant, a red mist enveloping Vera. From a distance, it looked like a fluffy red fox. But in a moment, the red mist floated towards Killer Lake.

Allen finally understood what the sorceress was waiting for. He also saw the edge of the approaching drowner swarm. The sorceress wanted to capture them all.

"Swish—swish—"

The sound of autumn wind sweeping through leaves echoed. As the blood mist touched the drowners, they fell one by one, losing their balance. Their blue bodies rapidly shrank. When they fell into the grass and water, they had transformed into thumb-sized blue leeches.

Allen watched in amazement, the sight deeply shocking him.

Was this Vera's transfiguration spell?

Vesemir had mentioned the sorceress's famous magic?

"Snap"

Another snap of her fingers. The thinning red mist returned, covering the "leeches" once more. The "leeches" writhed as if sprinkled with salt, their bodies shriveling rapidly.

After a few twitches, they all stopped moving. Then, the dried leeches, along with the now denser, even more vivid red mist, drifted towards Vera and Allen.

"Rustle—rustle—"

Seeing the red mist carrying countless dried leeches, the Witcher apprentice felt his scalp tingle and instinctively stepped back. But this movement seemed to provoke the mist. It adjusted its direction slightly, moving towards Allen.

The apprentice couldn't hold it any longer and called out: "Vera, Vera!"

He really didn't want to turn into a blue leech. A white one wouldn't do either.

"Relax…"

Vera's voice, like a heavenly sound to Allen, continued: "It won't harm you…"

"Huh?" Allen opened his mouth wide, seeing the sorceress nod at him reassuringly.

He was about to run. But the red mist had already encircled him, and Allen didn't even dare to move, fearing he'd turn into a leech upon contact.

No vision, no hearing, no smell…

No wonder this spell was Vera's signature magic. Just thinking about it was terrifying. Fortunately, the red mist didn't touch the apprentice.

"Thud—thud—thud—"

The bizarre blue leeches kept falling, piling up beside the sorceress.

"Alright, come back."

Vera's voice called. The red mist reluctantly circled Allen twice, then floated up and down in front of him. It seemed to be greeting him. Then it quickly gathered into Vera's crystal bottle, becoming a beautiful red potion again.

"It seems to like you." The sorceress shook the bottle slightly, chuckling, teasing him.

Allen finally relaxed, his stiff body breaking into a cold sweat, soaking his inner clothes.

Awkwardly smiling, he asked: "It…?"

"Thump!"

The red liquid knocked against the bottle, making Allen correct himself quickly.

"She is a living thing?"

The sorceress laughed and nodded: "Yes, just like your mirage pearl."

Allen opened his mouth to ask more.

The sorceress raised her hand, interrupting: "You'll learn in time. For now, let's return to our alchemy lessons."

Saying this, Vera raised her right hand to snap her fingers and open a portal.

But the Witcher apprentice, after a moment of silence, shook his head: "No need for now, Vera."

The sorceress looked at him, surprised.

"I already know how to make that potion."
