Capítulo 146: Dystopia (6)

Edited by: Kuro and Lille

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just as Cyan said, a tornado ripped through multiple neighborhoods. A lot of houses in neighboring areas were destroyed. Luckily, their area was spared.
Even so, many people died, and even more lost their homes.
With the tornado going through only a few select neighborhoods, it concluded a part of Grey's hypothesis.
Someone or a group of people were using them as human guinea pigs. As for what, it was probably a whole combination of things. From the building materials to the vaccines, the data on everything was being collected.
As for why this was happening, he wasn't sure, but he knew that he had to figure it out before he could see the rest of the side missions.
When the weekend came around, everyone in the city made their way to the grassy plains between the city center and the neighborhoods.
Many coffins were laid out on both sides of the road. They were equally apart to give room for family and friends to gather around the coffins without being in the way. Some people didn't have any family left, so there were coffins that were deserted. Even so, everyone was given large bouquets to put on each coffin.
According to Cyan, this was a common funeral ritual, especially when a lot of deaths were involved. They needed a large open space to put the coffins down. Many tents were scattered around so the coffins weren't directly under the hot sun or rain.
Both Cyan and Grey didn't have parents and they didn't lose any friends during the natural disasters or epidemics, so they went from coffin to coffin to put flowers on them, talked to some friends who did lose family, and did their best to comfort them.
Grey couldn't help but be a little angry. Something was controlling the lives of real people. They weren't seen as human beings, thus their lives could be manipulated and even ended so easily.
Living in this city, Grey felt his heartache for the people, even those he didn't know.
If only there was a way out…
The funeral visitings took three hours, but soon, a large line of hearses appeared. These hearses were cars that could fit coffins. They would be slowly driven around the neighborhoods before disappearing who knows where.
Well, no one knew where the deceased bodies went. They couldn't even see the bodies because all the caskets were nailed shut before this large-scale funeral.
No one seemed to care where the bodies went after the little tour around the city, but Grey was worried.
What happened to the bodies of those who died? There wasn't a single cemetery in sight…
Even if he had those thoughts, he didn't say it.
*****
Even though people saw coffins leaving the city, there were actually no bodies in them.
In actuality, the bodies left the city the moment the outside officials had gathered them up. This was all before the largescale funeral so no one really noticed.
After the funeral, the bodies were transported to multiple spacecrafts. These spacecrafts left the planet. Its destination was on a neighboring planet.
The neighboring planet was a private planet with an extremely low population, but it was used as a tourist spot for the rich. Only business partners and relatives of a certain powerful family were allowed to go there.
When the spacecrafts landed, dozens of scientists filed out of a building. Hospital gurneys were being pushed out of the building, each held one body. With almost 100 bodies, it took the scientists three trips to gather all the bodies into the building.
There, doctors waited in different rooms each with 4-8 bodies. The bodies whose organs were extremely damaged were tossed to the side, waiting to be taken out of the room. The elderly were also not used as their organs were not as good as the younger folks.
Each body was cut open. Any healthy organs were taken out. Not even the intestines were left behind.
The bodies were preserved in a strange green liquid. This liquid allowed the organ to stay as fresh as it was when the person had died. It allowed them to easily take out the organs.
This was all to ensure that by the time the organs went to their respected people, they would be easily accepted by the recipient.
In the end, most of the bodies were only left with their brains. All other organs were taken out, ready to be transported elsewhere.
Once all the organs were on their way to the capital star of the Federation, a familiar scientist gathered up his colleagues.
The scientist with gold-rimmed glasses and white hair looked at his colleagues. "How many healthy organs were we able to collect?"
The youngest of the scientists responded, "We were able to collect more than 60% of the organs from the bodies that had died. From children to adults, most of them are healthy and ready to be sold for organ transplants."
As for the rest of the body, they were mass cremated and scattered outside of the XU239. To these scientists, it was useless to even try to bury them.
To the scientists, XU239 was their human farm. It was impossible to do these kinds of experiments in normal settings. With the Federation's strict research guidelines, a small portion of scientists rebelled.
After teaming up with one of the four major families of the Federation, their research skyrocketed. They earned three times as much as their peers, earning them enough to eat, drink, and play for three lifetimes.
Even though the people of XU239 were essentially enslaved and bred, they felt no remorse. For their research, for the people of the Federation, they felt there was nothing wrong with what they were doing.
Plus, the people of this backwater planet didn't know any better. The Seore family saved their lives three hundred years ago. They first started as trading partners. The Seore family would give them resources to build their homes, farm, and even knowledge.
Eventually, someone in the family realized they could take advantage of these people. That was how the people of XU239 went from a mutually beneficial relationship to an exploitative one.
"These backwater natives are too stupid to see that they are being farmed like cattle." A middle-aged man who looked like he hadn't showered for days couldn't help but laugh at the thought.
All the scientists saw XU239 as a human farm for their experiments. They didn't see any lies in his words.
Some even chuckled with him.
They had all seen the people of XU239. They didn't dare think for themselves, following the traditions and culture that they put forth. They were easily controlled and no one suspected a thing.
Some scientists even watched the daily lives of these people, watching them move around like little hamsters in a large enclosure.
The people of XU239 could not see outside of XU239.
For them, this was the best. Anyone who even tried to deviate would be killed though.
"Shut up. Let's get back to work." The gold-rimmed glasses man shooed everyone away.
He knew that for some, this was their entertainment. As for him, these people were nothing but lab rats to get results. He didn't care for their lives or their deaths.
The golden-rimmed glasses man was left alone in the room. He sat down at his desk and pulled up multiple flies that contained the data that the City Hall workers had compiled and organized.
They had a lot more work to do. They needed to send their results to the Seore family.
