Chapter 159: Meeting of Sisters

____

The room was quiet. Kurome curled up on the sofa with her eyes closed, as if she were asleep.

Suddenly, she opened her eyes, a hint of panic flashing across her brow before she gradually calmed down.

Kurome pursed her lips and glanced toward the laboratory.

The door was still closed, and Aoki hadn't come out yet.

She thought about the four creatures in the lab and still found it hard to believe that they were once the Four Rakshasa demons.

However, Aoki had explained that the Four Rakshasa demons were actually dead, and those creatures were resurrected using his power in the bodies of the Rakshasa demons.

Creak.

At that moment, the door to the lab opened, and Aoki stepped out.

"It's done. Let's head out."

They had been there for nearly an entire day.

"Alright!" The gloom on Kurome's face disappeared as she quickly moved to Aoki's side.

Aoki placed a hand on her shoulder, and in an instant, both of them vanished.

Back in the hotel room.

Leone stared out the window and yawned. "Akame, it's almost dawn. Should we keep waiting?"

Because of Akame's identity, they needed the cover of night to leave the city. If they didn't leave now, they'd have to wait until the next night.

Akame was silent for a moment before standing up.

"It looks like Kurome and the others really left. Let's go."

Leone stretched, placing her hands behind her head. "Maybe it's not such a bad thing. At least you didn't have to make that tough choice, right?"

The two made their way to the door.

Before leaving, Akame glanced back into the room and slowly closed the door behind her.

Suddenly, invisible ripples spread through the air, and two figures appeared in the room.

Aoki scanned the room and narrowed his eyes slightly. "Someone's been here."

Kurome's expression sharpened.

"Who was it?"

"I'm not sure," Aoki replied, "but don't worry. It might've just been a thief."

When they had entered the alternate space, the doors and windows had been locked. The only way in would have been to pick the lock, so it couldn't have been the hotel staff.

And the imperial capital had no shortage of thieves. Walk down any busy street, and you'd encounter at least three pickpockets.

Meanwhile, Akame and Leone stepped out of the hotel.

The streets were deserted, with only the occasional homeless person huddled in the corners of the buildings.

"Let's head back to the base," Leone said.

Akame paused and glanced back at the hotel.

"What's wrong?"

"I want to go back and check something."

"Why?"

"I have a feeling Kurome might still be there."

"What makes you think that?"

Akame said nothing more and headed back into the hotel. She quickly made her way to the room Aoki and Kurome had stayed in and pushed the door open.

Bang!

Two pairs of eyes turned to look at her at once.

"Wait, wait, Akame, you've got a crazy feelin—"

Leone had rushed up behind her, but before she could finish her sentence, she froze in shock. "You're really here."

"It's you guys" Aoki exclaimed. "I thought it was a thief who broke in."

"Kurome!"

Akame ignored Aoki. Her eyes were fixed on the slender girl with black hair and dark eyes standing in the room. Emotions swirled inside her.

And then, in the next moment, a dark shadow flew toward her, wrapping her in a tight embrace. A familiar voice whispered in her ear.

"Sister!"

Akame was taken aback.

She had imagined many scenarios of reuniting with Kurome.

Maybe they would reminisce about the past, or maybe they would even fight.

But she never thought that Kurome would hug her so closely.

It wasn't that she couldn't imagine it—it was just a hope she never dared to have.

Suddenly, she felt as though she had returned to her childhood when they relied on each other for everything.

Leone watched the sisters embrace.

This is quite different from what I imagined, she thought.

Isn't this just a typical scene of two sisters reuniting after a long separation?

"Come in and have a seat," Aoki said, gesturing to them.

Leone glanced at him, feeling slightly awkward.

"Care for a drink?" Aoki offered, pulling out a bottle of wine.

He could guess what Leone was thinking, but he had already anticipated this situation, especially that Leone would bring Akame with her. In fact, it was exactly the outcome he had planned when he reached out to Leone.

Akame gradually snapped out of her daze.

"Kurome, what's going on?"

Her mind was filled with questions.

When she was at the base, after hearing Leone's account, she felt like Kurome was different. But now that she had seen Kurome in person, it was more than that—Kurome had completely changed, both physically and mentally.

Kurome looked up at Aoki, and Akame followed her gaze.

"Because of him?"

"That's right! Aoki saved me!" Kurome said with a soft smile. "Sister, I've left the empire"

Akame could no longer control her emotions. She grabbed Kurome's shoulders tightly, her red eyes brimming with excitement. "Kurome, is that true?"

Kurome nodded firmly.

"That's wonderful!"

Akame hugged Kurome tightly.

There was no better news for her.

She couldn't help but glance at Aoki again.

Does love really have such powerful magic? she thought.

She was immensely grateful to Aoki, but at the same time, a small wave of jealousy arose.

I tried everything to take Kurome away, but this man succeeded.

Aoki was also studying Akame.

Akame was definitely one of the most dangerous people in the world, perhaps even more of a threat to him than Esdeath.

Her imperial weapon, the demon sword Murasame, could kill with a single strike. As the sword's legend goes, even a minor cut from it would lead to death.

Aoki wasn't confident that he was immune to Murasame's curse. After all, ordinary poison could still affect demons.

After a long embrace, the two sisters finally let go of each other.

Akame held onto Kurome's hand tightly. "Kurome, what exactly happened?"

Kurome didn't hide anything. She explained everything that had occurred since she met Aoki. The only detail she glossed over was the power Aoki had given her, only briefly mentioning the changes in her body.

But at this moment, Akame wasn't focusing on the details. Her face was full of amazement.

"You've completely recovered? You're not taking any more medication?"

"Yes, no more medicine."Kurome leaned into her sister's shoulder.

Now that she had let go of her obsessions, she realized just how much she had missed her sister.

"That's incredible, Kurome," Akame murmured, her eyes misting over.

At this moment, Akame was finally certain that Kurome had broken free from all her chains, and her mind was now even healthier than her own.

She had two dreams: one was to overthrow the empire, and the other was to save Kurome.

The second dream had always seemed even harder to achieve than the first.

Now that the dream had come true, the overwhelming joy made it all feel a bit unreal.

She had come here today prepared for a difficult farewell with Kurome.

But instead, the situation had taken a dramatic turn—from the worst to the best possible outcome. She couldn't calm down from the shock.
