Capítulo 18: Chapter 18: Becoming a Bodyguard for the "Boss Lady"

Wang Hao's POV

"There's a council meeting this month, and I'd like you to go there with Suho Kang," I say, looking at the invitation letter.

This object is just a formality; it's impossible for a council member not to be invited to a meeting, but the former leader was a traditionalist.

"Oh, old man, you're pulling my leg, right?" Xiuren declares, frowning.

"No, I'm not joking," I say simply, turning to her.

"The kid has learned perfectly, I mean he's been able to copy most of my techniques," I explain, exhaling smoke.

He's really a monster. He needs to fully integrate into Chunwoong, or I need to ensure he can't ally with other organizations currently controlling Seoul's underworld.

*Bam* Sound of a chair breaking.

"I won't accept my work being handed over to someone else," she says through gritted teeth.

"And what do you plan to do? You forget he's stronger than you, and I'm your master," I reply, sighing at my oldest student.

I didn't just make this decision because of Suho Kang's strength, but also because of Xiuren herself. I've observed her shifting her loyalty from me to Cha Yu-Hwa, slowly but surely.

I must prevent Chunwoong from being divided, and even if I have to use this kid to keep Cha Yu-Hwa under control, Suho Kang could even make a good replacement leader in the future, but he must first understand that the triad's interests come before everything else.

"Mr. Wang, they've come for your lessons," declares an unimportant Chunwoong member.

After hearing that, Xiuren rushed out ahead of me.

"Cha Yu-Hwa, I know you're there," I say, looking towards the door.

"Go follow her if you don't want her to get hurt again," I say, looking towards the window.

"Alright, but know that Xiuren will always remain my real bodyguard," she says behind the door leading to the hallway.

"She's really becoming unmanageable," I say, rubbing my temple in fatigue.

...

Suho Kang's POV

"Can you explain why we're being received so 'energetically'?" I ask Cha Yu-Hwa for clarification.

"Mr. Wang will explain to you," she says, turning her back to me.

"I don't like that woman's behavior," Hansol declares behind me.

"Relax, she's more fragile than you think," I say without trying to hide my words.

"What do you know about me?" she says, walking in front of us. From the tone of her voice, I can sense she's upset.

"I can see this place isn't made for a woman like you. You don't have a look similar to Xiuren or Wang, or even this guy behind me," I say, pointing at Gyeongchun Rim, who's curiously observing his surroundings.

"You don't have the look of a killer either," she says with a fake smile, but I could see in her eyes that she wasn't comfortable with the current conversation.

I'm treading on sensitive ground after all. She never wanted to lead a criminal organization, but she had no choice.

At the time, Chunwoong needed a puppet leader who preferably had ties to Seoul's underworld, and who better than the only daughter of a deceased gang leader who inherited a bankrupt company?

That's how a teenage girl without support ends up leading a criminal gang and playing a role for years.

"Yeah, I've never killed in this life," I admit, walking beside her. My words surprised her.

It seems she thought I would lie. I've indeed never killed with my own hands, but in my past life, I had to destroy lives and possibly take some indirectly.

So yeah, I'm no angel, but I'm more normal than the people around her currently.

"I see, but why are you interested in this dirty world?" she says as we arrive at the hallway leading to the CEO's office of Chunwoong Commerce.

I could feel from her words that she really hates her situation. She's really like me in my past life.

A person trapped in the darkness but always longing for the light of a "normal" life.

"I want power, so I don't end up like you one day," I say honestly, passing in front of her to enter the office.

I didn't know what face she was making since she was behind me, but I hope my words will accelerate her betrayal towards Chunwoong.

...

Once inside, I saw Wang sitting on the CEO's desk of Chunwoong Commerce. It seems he really wants to trust me since he's no longer hiding his identity as the real leader.

"Can I know why Xiuren was so angry?" I ask directly.

My companions had sat on a couch not far away while I was sitting right in front of Wang Hao.

"I wanted to fulfill my part of our agreement, that's all," he says, exhaling cigarette smoke.

"Can you elaborate, old man?" I say, slightly frowning. It seems this fox is trying to trick me again.

"I want you to attend the next 'council' meeting as Cha Yu-Hwa's bodyguard," he calmly explains.

I see, he wants all the influential gang leaders in Seoul to see me as a member of Chunwoong.

He really wants me tied to his ship, which isn't bad anyway.

I had already decided to steal Chunwoong from the Chinese triads long ago, and being officially considered close to their current leader in Korea is good for me.

"Alright, anyway, I was supposed to take part in Chunwoong-related activities according to our agreement," I say, pretending to grumble.

"Excellent, I knew you'd understand the benefits," Wang declares as if he knew I was pretending not to appreciate his request.

He gave me an envelope. It seems to contain general information related to the council, but also the date of the event.

"So, can we start training?" I say, getting up to head to the training ground.

"Of course, but I see new faces. I hope they're not new disciples," he says, slightly frowning.

"No, one doesn't need it, and the other is taking a different path," I say, glancing at Joonwoo and Gyeongchun Rim.

I could clearly see Joonwoo sweating profusely, poor guy. Now, it's too late for him to leave my group.

I'll tolerate his fear of me for now, but in the future, I expect a lot from him, like the desire to surpass me, even if it's impossible.

"Then there's no problem. I hope you'll survive your special training again today," he says, referring to my training for the "zone."

"That's not your concern," I say, smiling.

...

"Boss, you're crazy to train like that"

Those were Joonwoo's first words after witnessing my personal training with Wang Hao. It seems the sight of my blood shocked him.

"I agree with the scaredy-cat," Rira Seo declared, nodding.

"You should have understood long ago that he's missing a screw," Hansol declared, shrugging.

"Do you agree with them too?" I ask Myeong Seong, who has remained silent.

"I understand that you need to set an example, but sometimes..." He didn't continue his words, but his blank stare said it all.

"You'll understand me the day you meet other teenagers capable of destroying concrete with their bare hands, haha," I say, half-serious, remembering James Lee against Seongji Yuk.

I wonder what faces they'll make if one day they meet my father in this life, or even when they see Hansu Seong in action.

For now, I'll leave them in their "normality."
