Capítulo 31: If three bother a lot of people...
Kowalsk arrived excited with the recently found weapons, but unfortunately, his joy was short-lived. Initially, he thought Mr. Kaminski was exaggerating the alarm; after all, it was just three small dragon hatchlings that his newest ally, Troy, the friendly dragon, would easily handle.
Despite being few and not very intimidating in size for Troy, the three small opponents proved to be very fast and extremely resistant to Troy's bites, which seemed to be ineffective. Even so, Troy managed to subdue the three, leaving them alive but in a miserable state.
— If you want me to do the honors, that's fine with me, Troy — said Kowalsk, sticking the barrel of his weapon into the mouth of one of the animals defeated by Troy, which appeared to be bleeding.
Click! Tchunc! Click! Nothing. The weapon didn't fire a single bullet, leaving Kowalsk in shock as the animal tried to chew on the barrel, which was quickly pulled out of its mouth.
— What's going on over there, old soldier? — shouted Gareno, coming towards him.
— I forgot to check if these weapons were loaded and... they weren't. Luckily, it was just these small hatchlings.
Thilláila quickly approached the hatchlings and, without anyone being able to stop her, touched each one of them with her hand and wasn't bitten by any.
— I'm sorry to tell you, Mr. Kowalsk, but none of them are hatchlings.
— And how do you know that? — asked Kowalsk, noticing that Thilláila was still touching one of the hatchlings, and it showed no reaction.
— Unfortunately, I can't explain it, Mr. Kowalsk. It may seem strange to you, as it does to me, but he told me — said Thilláila, pointing to one of the small beasts still in contact.
— And what are they? — asked Kowalsk, not believing that response at all.
— They are dreikis, Mr. Kowalsk — answered Thilláila.
— Drinks? — joked Kowalsk, alluding to beverages whose effects he hadn't felt in a long time.
— I said dreikis, Mr. Kowalsk. They are not hatchlings, and as soon as we kill these here, more will come looking for them.
— Thilláila, do me a favor and don't call me sir. And it doesn't matter what you know or think you know about these smelly animals, nor does it matter if there are ten or twenty of them because I won't spare any of them. Gareno, Troy, you know what to do.
Simultaneously, the three took care of the already defeated dreikis. Kowalsk, with a quick stab that reached the beast's brain, which emitted a grotesque sound as it died. Troy, with a crushing bite, sank his enormous teeth into the skull of a dreikis, annihilating it almost instantly. And finally, Gareno, with his right hand always gloved in his special glove, delivered a super strong punch that the dreikis didn't even react to, perhaps not believing that a human could cause any damage simply with their hands or any covering that enveloped them.
Mr. Kaminski, who had been distant until then, since fighting dragons was not his forte, came running to his companions, shouting:
— Don't do that!
But it was too late. The dreikis were already writhing in their final spasms while the three who had annihilated them walked away, unconcerned with what would happen next.
— Why all the fuss, Mr. Kaminski? Those there are done. They won't harm anyone else. Why the worried face?
— I was talking to Thilláila, and we concluded that these beasts pose no risk to us as long as we don't attack them.
— I won't say "I'm sorry, Mr. Kaminski" because I'm not. And those dreikis won't pose any danger to us ever again.
— I'm not worried about those, Mr. Kowalsk. But what about those? — said Kaminski, pointing to the opening ahead, where, besides the sunbeams invading part of the room, numerous dreikis seemed to be emerging, dropping from above and already positioning themselves for a possible attack on the dragon slayers.
