Ethan remembered a physics lesson he had in high school in his previous world, where the professor talked about these gelatinous substances that were liquid to the touch when no force was applied to them and became solid when pressure was exerted.
From what little he remembered at the time, these substances were made from a mix of solid particles suspended in a liquid.
When left undisturbed, the particles moved freely within the fluid, making the substance soft and malleable.
However, when force was applied, the particles interlocked, forming a temporary, more solid structure.
The example used during the lesson was that of water and cornstarch, and Ethan tried to see if he could create something similar based on this knowledge.
