Chapter 9

280 AC (25 years old)

'How can one become so bounded

By choices that somebody else makes?

How come we've both become a version

Of a person we don't even like? We're in love with the world

But the world just wants to bring us down

By putting ideas in our heads

That corrupt our hearts somehowWhen I was a child

Every single thing could blow my mind

Soaking it all up for fun

But now I only soak up wineThey say to play hard, you work hard

Find balance in the sacrifice

Yet I don't know anybody

Who's truly satisfiedYou better believe I'm trying (trying, trying)

To keep climbing (climbing, climbing)

But the higher we climb

Feels like we're both none the wiser (ahh)So I hope I learn to get over myself

Stop trying to be somebody else

So we can love each other for free

Everybody wants something

You just want me'

(I drink wine-Adele)

Playing and singing songs from my past really puts me in a different mood. I briefly forgot the turmoils of Westeros with a song on my lips. As I was about to continue with another song a little girl burst into my room laughing.

With dark hair and purple eyes with the dornish skin tone I immediately knew it was Princess Rhaenys. The little hellion was two name days old and ever since she could walk has been a problem.

She ran up to me laughing. I put the guitar aside and picked up the little princess while she was still giggling and pulling my white hair.

'Nuncle Luc nucle luc. Sing again again.' she said whilst still dragging my hair. I love the little dragon who always loves dragging me into her adventures around the Red Keep. Ever since she found out I never said no to her I have been her go to person to terrorize and Elia enables her so she can have time for herself.

'Okay okay, young dragon. I'll play Jenny's song' I said while she sat on my laps. I started strumming the guitar to build anticipation as the notes started flowing.

High in the halls of the kings who are gone

Jenny would dance with her ghostsThe ones she had lost and the ones she had found

And the ones who had loved her the mostThe ones who'd been gone for so very long

She couldn't remember their namesThey spun her around on the damp old stones

Spun away all her sorrow and pain

And she never wanted to leave

Never wanted to leave

'I knew I would find you here.' said a voice from the door. I looked up to see Lady Ashara Dayne smiling towards us as she moved into the room.

'My lady. I was keeping our princess occupied.'

She smiled softly and ushered Rhaenys into her arms while cooing at her. Her haunting purple eyes filled with joy as the princess laughed alongside her. She turned to me,

'I really enjoyed the first song you sang. Where was it from?'

'A neighbor of mine in Naath made the song for her husband while he was helping fight slavers.' I answered. Sure I can claim the song but to these people it would be more sincere.

'Her name?' she asked with a puzzled look.

'Adele. No last name. Most talented songstress I've ever met.'

'Ohhh not even me?'

'You don't have a musical bone in your body,my lady.' I said while chuckling at Ashara. In this crazy keep she is one of the few people I have a preference for.

'By the way the queen requests your attention.'

Ahhh it's finally here. She has been acting skitish since the beginning of the week. I wonder what it's about.

'Thank you for the message, Lady Dayne.'

In Maegor's Holdfast, The Queen's chambers

Rhaella looked tired and exhausted.

These few months passed things have changed in the capital. There was an assasination attemp against the King. Luckily Pycelle was able to cure the poison but afterwards he has been seeing shadows at every corner.

Executing servants left and right with… wildfyre. At first I turned a blond eye to it because I value my neck and what I've managed to accomplish so far so I stayed away with the queen when he started acting up.

Then it started. I was told I was no longer required to be her sworn shield by order of the king. That the Kingsguard will protect her. I looked into her eyes then and found it empty but deep down I could hear a silent plea for help. One I would attempt to give until I couldn't.

I told them I agreed but I would be around the Red Keep as a knight. During these months I noticed Rhaella get paler and paler. She was shrinking into a shell. The larger than life woman, the funny queen who liked sexual innuendos, the woman who I personally believed was more than ready to be a ruler was retreating into herself.

Only two things can cause this: marital violence or rape. Both can only be done by the king. And I can't do anything to him directly cause if I fail I die or go take the black or Rhaella gets hurt.

So I hung around Kings Landing. I decided to build a spy network using taverns and brothels. I'll discreetly buy them out nine of them then leave a new boss handpicked by me amongst to be in charge and report to me all their findings and my money.

With this I have a network at the heart of the kingdom and will be able to help Rhaella when opportunity rears its head. Soon I'll be off to my keep to be with my son after this talk with my queen.

I approached Rhaella and went on one knee and kissed the back of her hand while giving the normal greetings expected from a vassal. She bid me to rise and stared at me with those jewel like eyes of hers. So full of passion, regret… betrayal.

I lowered my tone significantly,

'Say the word. I'll do whatever you want once. No rejection. For you rose me up to nobility, I must repay you.'

'Anything?'

'Yes anything. Think of it as a coin from a faceless man. One order that I will seek to accomplish even at my detriment.'

'I had assumed we were friends already, Lucas. There is no need for this offer. I just wanted to tell you that you must leave soon. Varys already whispers rumors about the two of us to Aerys.'

'My queen. I give this promise to you as a binding vow between two of us before we part ways. No matter what I am loyal to you and would always act in your best interests. I would do as you instructed and leave this city but know this Limgrave is always open to you and your children. And the rumors from Varys… I won't lie that I am not attracted to you but I understand your position so I won't overstep but…'

There was a mild silence between us, tension I felt could be cut with a knife. She came closer to me. Looked me deep in the eyes, stretched out her hands to my face gently before pulling me in for a kiss.

After we separated she looked triumphant. Like the Rhaella I knew and loved. Her arrogance reared its beautiful head again.

'That's all you are getting for now. Radahn… you are mine. No one else's. While I yet live I expect to hear no news about you marrying anyone. The vow you give me… I would hold on to it. I request that any child of mine can call it in.'

'Of course my queen.' I said while my heart was still racing from the kiss I just received from her. I want more but patience… Aerys is an obstacle I must figure out how to remove.

With that I finally left the Red Keep to go back home permanently and take up office as the Lord of Limgrave (I have plans to spread rumours to get the folk to call me the Elden Lord. LOL.)
