Capítulo 11: 10 - Beneath the Surface

As Shirou arrived at his dorm, set down his things, and sat down on his new bed, he looked at the mysterious runes.

Blades: —

He focused on the runes, causing a new set to appear.

[Reforge Ingvild of the Storm into a Blade?]

Shirou's eyes widened, before immediately saying yes to see what would happen.

[Insufficient Sword Fragments: 12/100]

It seems that he needs 100 Sword Fragments for it to work.

Shirou has never heard of an Aspect that had a function completely unrelated to its Aspect Abilities. He decided to just assume that it was because he had a Divine Aspect and moved on.

He wondered what would happen if to Ingvild if he were to turn her into a blade. He hopes that it's nothing bad, although he doubted that his Aspect would have a function that worked against him. Shirou looked at the clock and noticed that it was time for that late supper Awakened Rock mentioned during his speech.

I wonder if the food here is good.

Shirou's eyes narrowed in determination. He'll have to go down their and decide if the food is truly worthy of an institution such as this.

————————————————————

This… has got to be cheating.

Shirou realized that the chefs here were most likely using cooking related Aspect, as ridiculous as it sounds.

Shirou was disappointed in his fellow chefs for using such underhanded tactics. A true chef would be able to make mouths water with nothing but their own skill.

He noticed Sunny looking at him as if he was insane, considering that while Shirou was glaring at his food, Sunny was shoving it into his face, as if he hadn't eaten for days.

Maybe he hasn't.

Shirou looked at the blind girl, and noticed that she was eating her food with some difficulty. There was a civil servant behind her, but it looks like helping her eat wasn't in the civil worker's job description.

Shirou turned to Sunny before saying:

"I'm going to go help her."

"What?"

"I said, I'm going to go help her."

"I know what you said! What I mean is what could you possibly help her with?!"

"Eating of course."

"How?! Are you just going to pick up her spoon and feed her?!"

"…That's a great idea Sunny!"

He sent Sunny a grateful smile, before standing up from the bench and walking to the other end, where the blind girl is. Smiling happily about the chance to help another person.

Another day, another act of justice from Shirou.

Shirou did not hear Sunny muttering about crazy middle schoolers in the background.

As Shirou approached where the blind girl sat, he noticed that she was blushing for some reason, yet assumed that she was probably just frustrated due to how difficult it is for her to eat.

Little did Shirou know that the interaction between him and Sunny wasn't as quiet as he though it was.

He sat down in the seat across from her before introducing himself.

"Hi, I'm Shirou, what's your name?"

The girl looked up at Shirou, although she wasn't really looking at him. Her face just seemed to be pointing in his direction is all. She seemed slightly startled when he spoke up.

"A-ah, my name is Cassia."

Casserole?

It seemed that Shirou was still thinking about the food he was served earlier, as his eye twitched, betraying his polite expression.

Remember what you came here for, Shirou.

"Well Cassia, I noticed that you seem to be having a hard time eating your food," Shirou sent the civil worker a glare, which caused her to flinch, "So I thought that I should come help you out!"

Shirou said all this in a cheery tone.

Man, I really am an Ally of Justice. I'm just so Heroic!

As Shirou was too busy thinking about how he was making strides in his search for justice, Cassia stuttered out:

"N-no, that's okay. I can eat just f-fine, see?"

Cassia was about to raise her fork to her mouth, before her elbow collided into the table causing her to hiss in pain, before dropping her fork onto the tray.

Shirou once again looked at the civil worker, giving her a disappointed look. He turned back to Cassia before grabbing the fork from across the table, and telling her to:

"Open your mouth."

"Wha- wha- what are you doing?!"

"Well I'm feeding you, obviously. It's not like you can feed yourself."

Cassia's face went fully red, which caused Shirou to finally notice that getting fed by another person would probably be something considered to be embarrassing. He remembers Miyu saying something along those lines when he tried to use the airplane technique a couple of months ago on her.

She said that she was too old for it, but Shirou didn't see what age had to do with it.

As he thought about it, he decided that he can't back down from this no matter what. It's not like she would be able to eat on her own anyways. Shirou repeated his words from before.

"Open your mouth."

"B-but wouldn't that look weird!"

"Just open it!"

"I'm not going to open my mouth!"

"If you don't open it, I'll open it for you!"

Shirou was about to reach out to pull open her jaw, before getting grabbed from behind.

"Alright Shirou, I've got one one question for you."

Shirou turned around to see Sunny gripping his arm. He tilted his head after noticing that most of the people in the hall were staring at him.

I wonder what they're so interested in.

As Shirou turned back to Sunny, he noticed his shadow looking like it was palming it's face.

Oh, cool. I wish my shadow was alive.

Shirou looked at Sunny's twitching face, and replied:

"What is it?"

"Are you crazy?!"

————————————————————

Shirou apologized to Cassia, before whispering to her that she won't escape next time, he got up from his seat and walked back to his precious seat.

If he he stayed for another moment, he would have saw that her face got even redder then before.

"So, do you mind explaining why you were harassing a blind girl?"

"Hmm? Well I wasn't harassing her, I was just helping her out."

Shirou stated cheerfully.

Sunny rubbed his temple in frustration before asking another question.

"Did she even look like she wanted help?"

"It looks like you're an amateur on the path of justice, Sunny. Don't worry though, as your senior Ally of Justice, I'll pass along the wisdom that was passed down from my father, to me."

"You didn't answer my question, you damn sociopath!"

"…We'll actually, I think you're the sociopath here, since you didn't even try to help Cassia yourself!"

"Nobody in this cafeteria tried to help her! Are you trying to say that everyone in this cafeteria is a sociopath?!"

"…I wouldn't know, but maybe you should accept the psychological counseling when they start calling us up."

Sunny stared at Shirou in disbelief, seeing that he was saying these things in genuine concern for Sunny.

"Nevermind, you're just an idiot…"

"Well that's not a very nice thing to say to a friend, Sunny."

"We're not friends!"

"I thought that the bond between us was strong, Sunny. After you mercilessly torn down my facade, I would have thought we had something special between us!"

"Don't say it like that!"

"We have so much in common, Sunny!"

"Like what?!"

"Um… we both have Divine Aspects!"

"Not so loud you idiot!"

"Well you're being pretty loud yourself, Sunny. Which is another thing we have in common!"

"Being loud?!"

"…That too I guess, but what I meant was that we're both hypocrites!"

"Why do you sound proud of that?!"

Sunny started to repeatedly bang his head on the table. Was this the guy who wanted to team up with him?

Damnation!

"Also, what's up with your shadow?"

"Huh?"

"I saw it move earlier, what's that about?"

Sunny sighed after seeing that he was stuck with such a lunatic.

"It's my Aspect ability, that's all."

"Obviously. I meant what does it do?"

"I can see through it, but it doesn't seem to be able to do anything else."

Sunny saw Shirou start to stroke his chin, before he seemed to remember something.

"Have you tried moving it?"

"It's one of the first things I tried, and yes, it can move."

"I knew that it could move, I just wanted to know if you could control it."

"The ability is literally called [Shadow Control], how else would it work?"

Shirou thought for a moment before coming up with an idea.

"Can you turn the shadow into a sword?"

"My shadow won't be able to touch anything, you know?"

"Just try it."

Sunny shrugged before shaping the shadow into a sword. Shirou seemed a little lost when he stared at it, before flinching back. Sunny stared at him in confusion.

Is he actually crazy?

Shirou turned to Sunny and told him excitedly:

"Ive figured it out."

"What?"

"What your shadow can actually do."

"Seriously?!"

"Yeah, just call your shadow onto your body and you'll get some sort of strength boost. I couldn't tell how much though."

Sunny immediately called his shadow towards his body, and as his shadow covered his body under the uniform, he felt his physical abilities increase drastically.

Sunny let the shadow go back into it's usual position, and looked over to Shirou.

"…Thanks."

"No problem, so we're definitely friends now right?"

"…Think what you want."

Sunny went back to eating his food, before he realized something. He wasn't planning on explaining his capabilities to anyone, much less a person who has murdered people before.

Sunny believes that Shirou is a sociopath. He doesn't understand why he acts the way he does, but even though he is a killer, Sunny does not think that Shirou is a bad person.

On the contrary, he seemed like quite the altruistic person, if the way he tried to… well… aggressively help Cassia was any indication.

He simply saw a person in need, and decided to help her. He even helped Sunny figure out the true capabilities of his [Shadow Control], even if it was like giving an extra weapon to somebody who knew how he really is.

As Sunny was eating his food, he scrunched up his face after thinking that Shirou might be his "friend".

In the end, once their pushed to their limits, a persons true nature will reveal itself.

Shirou is no different…
