Nick and James, still nursing their wounded pride after the tense exchange with their teammates, reluctantly rose to follow Kyoji. He was already leading the way, guiding them away from the approaching danger.

Kyoji understood their sullenness. He had seen how they carried themselves, how they dressed – the subtle markers of those who hailed from the Pit, as the third district was known. From their appearance alone, Kyoji could tell they were used to being in command, accustomed to giving orders rather than taking them. The fact that Kyoji, with his lowly F-tier talent, was now leading them clearly did not sit well.

But Kyoji had little time for such concerns. His goal was simple: complete the challenge as quickly and efficiently as possible, securing a high enough assessment to guarantee his place in Class A.
