Chapter 30: The Midnight Show [Part 6]

The scene appeared solemn.

His previously content smile faded away almost instantly. An unexplainable sensation rose within him.

The light wasn't shown onto him yet, bringing all the attention to the male lead.

As Blank looked at the judges and the special audience hired by the team, he didn't feel one bit of nervousness.

It had been many years since he left the stage of acting. But he had never truly stopped acting.

This world is one big stage. The humans living in it are the actors.

In this world, everyone wears a blank mask, drawing various emotions with markers in front of people. In this world, everyone acts.

It's only when a person is alone or near someone they love that the mask slowly falls down.

In essence, no one truly stops acting.

Everyone is an actor. An actor who follows fate's way of writing, follows fate's way of story.

The way of fate was the absolute.

To him, being a writer was better...

A person who could change the course of actions at any moment. The person who was required to change the flow, the one who was required to have everything under control.

The person who was fate... No above the fate...

After all... In this world, everyone acts.

And the writer manipulate how they act...

<Act 2>

Daa~ De~ Taa~

The BGM gradually increased then suddenly paused.

Along with it, the actor in the middle who looked a little dead inside was abruptly filled with vitality.

Maxwell let out an 'ah' in amazement.

It was the cheerful and arrogant person before the war. He grabbed a paintbrush, while removing his coat, a few stains of paint appearing.

A man who loved painting... A man who loved the arts... A man who portrayed his arrogance through art...

It was him as a young man...

—I'm going to be the best artist in the world!

—What?! Art School?

His dialogue was a bit amateurish.

—Yes, sir! I have studied all the ways of the 4th Great Emperor!

Despite that, he managed to add emotions into his dialogues.

He tried his best...

His level best...

And yet...

The second light flashed, revealing the Gentleman Bastard, his back facing the judges.

Steve looked at him, a frown appearing on his face.

This aura...

"Why did I fail?!"

He fell to his knees.

"I've failed..."

<Act 3>

"What?! There's no way I'd kill for your gang!"

The background music intensified.

Although the dialogues weren't that great, actions spoke louder than words.

Rick couldn't help but smile inwardly.

The performance is ruined, but I've managed to stand out amongst all these fools...

Everything is in my control...

Step! Step! Step!

He froze for a second, looking at the man walking closer to him.

Eh?

What's he doing?

Isn't his part small?

Just one more act and I have to kill him...

I just have to kill him.

What's he doing?

His grasp over the fake knife intensified as the man walked closer to him.

Reflexively he took a step back.

When a distance of a millimeter was left between them both, he looked down, his aura almost suffocating.

"Next time..."

"Remember this feeling."

What?

Is... Is he looking down on me? His grasp over the handle of the knife intensified even further.

"Remember this feeling before you dare to mess with us."

You!

The figure tried to brush past him in a matter of milliseconds. But before he could walk away, Mortice turned in the moment of heat.

Huh?

Wait a second...

What the hell?

Steve, who was holding the script, couldn't help but tremble, his palms getting sweaty and his heart beating even faster.

Bastard's leg twisted as he involuntarily turned around, or so it seemed. His hand stretched forward, grabbing Mortice's wrist.

Mortice's palms trembled a little as the Bastard raised his leg, kneeing Mortice in the stomach.

With loud grunts, the man fell to his knees, his arms wrapped around his stomach region.

"Ah, forgive my instinctive reaction..."

Arrogance...

While trying to control the pain, he stood up, still releasing a few grunts.

But his body fell back once again, as his face came in contact with the Bastard's fist.

Painful...

The gentleman grabbed him by the back of the shirt, lifting him up, forcing Mortice to look at his blank face.

It was at this moment when he had left his guard down...

Sh~

The beautiful sound of a knife stabbing skin resonated throughout the stage before the light went off.

"I killed for your gang..."

Sh~

Sh~!

Sh~!

~!

In the darkness, the beautiful sound of someone being stabbed echoed again and again.

Silence.

***

What was that?

What the f*ck was that?

What just happened?

Wasn't the Bastard supposed to be killed in Act 3?

Improvised?

Steve could still feel the dopamine rush.

He had never expected to see such an amazing performance in a rookie tournament like this.

Such real acting...

Such amazing expression...

Judge Alisa was too dumbfounded to even say anything.

On the other hand, the devil Judge was quiet too, his mind preoccupied with something else.

Those three seconds...

The smooth turn...

The acting performed by Blank and Rick was without a doubt amazing, but what changed everything, was those three seconds.

Every movie, every drama, every story, and every person's life had a turning point. A point of transition where everything would be changed.

Such points were to be made extremely dramatic and interesting, something that would make the reader or the audience excited.

The original script of the first blood had poorly done this. After all, these scripts were randomly taken by 15-year-olds, 14-year-olds, and even 13-year-olds.

The essence was to improvise. To win, one had to improvise.

However, what the actor Blank had performed...

It was as though everything was under his control. It was as though he was the creator of the story.

An actor who could influence other people's emotions too...

Such a thought was terrifying.

Although it seemed like Rick had greatly contributed to improvising the transition point, by discussing it earlier, Maxwell could clearly tell that "Blank" had manipulated the entire scenario.

He was the mastermind...

Realizing this, he stared at the stage with his mouth agape.

[A/N: First of all I would like to thank all my readers for bearing with this shameless author.

As y'all know the author's participating in the competition and would really like to win.

Pay wall has finally hit. This novel is a slow burn with some light hearted moments, as a result I would appreciate if the readers read the next 10 or 12 chapters before deciding to continue reading or not, as volume 1 ends in between chap 40 - 45, while also setting a stage for greater story, but this author understands if the bunch of you don't do so.

Ahem, don't forget to send the virtual slice of pizza or castle.

And lastly, I would like to end this note by thanking all my readers. All the readers who have commented till now. Adios~]
