Capítulo 3: - Gardening fun with worm

Fuck the rain! Fuck the winds! Fuck the waves!

As the storm continued, the waves got higher and more violent, some even entering my makeshift shelter.

I was forced to hurriedly move the essential crates of alcohol and my recently harvested seaweed to a better position and further fortify the place by placing sticks and rags to cover some holes to make my room a little more waterproof.

Shit! How will I start a fire in this humid conditions.

Even if I suceed can passing ships see through such a thick storm?

At least I can fill the empty bottles with rainwater...

After that, and a little tidying up, all I could do was sleep and wait for the storm to end.

***

After what felt like a very long slumber I woke up. As I tried to rub the crust out of my eyes I found myself unable to move.

Sleep paralysis? Man I hate this feeling...

As I tugged my body around I discovered that I am actually awake, just that my body seems to be tied down by something.

Craning my neck and peering down my nose at my prone body, I found myself covered with roots and seaweed.

Must have dropped on me while I was asleep.

Huh.

Did I harvest this much before?

As I followed the vines of the seaweed I was horrified that some of them originated from my skin and flesh.

My body had postules and holes and the red-green seaweed was growing out of them like a potted plant.

I am not ashamed to say that I spent some time just crying. You would too if you found out you ironically just became the fertilizer for the salad that you ate.

As my despair grew, whispers started to get louder...

After more than an hour of futile struggling to try to free myself from the seaweed by rocking and shaking my body, the whispers had already transformed into indecipherable shouts and noises.

The veins under my skin visibly grew dark purple and my fingernails grew into a grey, sharp jagged shape, with black, venomous oil leaking out of the pores of my skin. My sight was also affected; when I looked at certain parts of my body, they seemed to glow with different colours and hues.

Certain spots glowed red and their sight filled me with irritation, like as if they were abberations that did not deserve to exist.

Following the red glow, I slowly scatched the area where the seaweed grew from my skin. With more force, I pierced my skin and blood started trickling out.

The pain caused me to flinch and stop for a moment but soon desperation filled me. I further scratched the area until some flesh were dug out. The seaweed's grip on my flesh were weakened and I plucked it out inch by inch. It had rooted itself in my flesh by at least a foot.

Blood flowed from the wound but part of my hand was freed from the bindings and I continued scratching and pulling out the other seaweed from the red glowy spots on my body.

I must have fainted a couple of times during the whole ordeal and even awoke a few times to find more seaweed growing out of my body. It became a race against time, to see if I could pluck out the seaweed faster than they were sprouting out of my body.

My beyonder endurance probably prevented me from dying from all the bleeding.

Until the last seaweed was plucked out and I fainted from the blood loss was I finally out of danger. At least for the moment.

***

It's been at least over a week and the storm has not ended. Not even a single hour where the sky is not pissing on me. My stockpile of seaweed is untouched despite my hunger.

On the first time I slept after eating the seaweed, I had awoken to find roots and vines growing out of my flesh and planting myself to the wooden boards of the ship.

That was not fun...

So now I subsist on mostly alcohol but it seems to be an insufficient source of nutrients as I can start to see my ribs showing through my skin.

At least the postules and holes were slowly scaabbing over and healing over time...

Huh. Death from starvation. At least it's a pretty boring and merciful death in the LotM universe.

I felt something clicked inside me.

Huh. More 'potion digestion'.

The whispers were now more common and yet I seem to instantly forget what was being murmured when I think about them. Like forgetting the contents of a dream once you wake up from sleep.

My spirituality recovered to full and I immediately noticed that the storm outside the shelter had decreased to a light drizzle. Sunlight was piercing the gaps between the wooden board and I got out to greet the improving weather.

Crawling up to get a higher viewpoint I was greeted with the sight of bones and carcasses littered around where the dry sands used to be.

The sands, wet by the rain, had turned a deep brown colour almost like soil.

Where once there was a pristine, sandy beach berm, now had turned into a mass grave. Creature's parts filled the area, some still in the process of rotting or being eaten by bugs and other tiny critters.

Did the rain wash away the illusion? Huh. Still doesn't show what killed the animals though...

Deciding to lure out whatever predator or trap is hiding in the sand, I tossed a fist sized driftwood and managed to hit one of the bigger carcass. The small critters feasting on it flew and crawled away, creating even more disturbance.

The vibration must have been detected as two bony protrusions jutted out of the sand below and formed mandibles that bisected the carcass in two. Even the thick bones were sliced and snapped like toothpicks.

Huh. That's a big bobbit worm.

The worm must have known that it's recent prey was already long dead and it's tentacle like antenna started feeling the air.

The worm burrowed out of the ground and exposed part of its body. Prismatic carapace as thick as car tires acted as scales around its long body. The width bigger than a trunk of a mature oak tree. Even the exposed part alone was at least two stories high, and I am pretty confident that more than half it's body was still hidden underground.

Yep. That's long...

The hardest part of its body to ignore however, were its two, bony serrated jaws, leading into a black, teeth filled hole where its mouth is.

It further 'tasted' the air with it's antenna and after a while its mandibles faced me.

Sounds escaped it's mouth and it hissed.

Oh yeah~ Now it knows I'm here. Fuck me.

And then the abomination started to slither towards me.

What the ducking ducks of all quacks! Aren't bobbit worms ambush predator? Why the fuck is it coming here? Stop behaving like a snake you shitty animal!

I ran towards my cabin in the ship and tossed the cursed seaweed at it's approaching direction.

Unfortunately it did not seem to want to have salad before it's main course and ignored the red-green plant and continued towards the shipwreck.

As it got closer to the wreck it slowed slightly and paused. Then it continued slithering up and into the entrance of my shelter.

As it further crawled through the cabins and halls I was forced to jump out of a hole towards the shallows.

The waves were still quite big from the recent storm and I partially waded and splashed desperately towards deeper water.

Not long after, the shipwreck groaned loudly and soon broke apart, splinters flying into the air. The bobbit worm stood up straight like a cobra from the inside a of a snake tamer's basket.

It tasted the air with its antenna and almost immediately it noticed me splashing in the sea and slithered closer.

It's big size meant that despite it's almost leisurely pace it was easily catching up to me.

All I could do was just keep swimming as fast as I can away from the shore and from it.

It soon caught up to me and all I can do was stare in horror as it widened its mandibles in preparation to eat me...

Welp...

The end?!?
