Capítulo 34: Battle for Glory

Trait: Battle for Glory

Effect: During combat, units have a chance to enter a berserk state, doubling their combat effectiveness. The more intense the battle, the higher the probability.

"A truly formidable trait!" Haotian mused, thoroughly impressed by the new characteristic of his Royal Knights. Previously, the traits of Loyalty and Bravery provided no direct combat enhancements. Loyalty, in particular, was redundant under the constraints of the Lord System, as all units were unconditionally loyal to Haotian. Bravery ensured that the Royal Knights would never falter on the battlefield, even in the face of defeat. This was useful, but Battle for Glory was on an entirely different level.

With the potential to double combat effectiveness, this trait could enable his Royal Knights to sweep through enemies of the same level and even challenge higher-level foes. This was especially significant given that the Royal Knights were not fighting alone. Their mounts, the Golden Griffins, were theoretically stronger than the knights themselves. Golden Griffins were high-level units, whereas without them, the Royal Knights were merely mid-level units. Only the advanced version, the Royal Paladin Knights, reached the high-level unit classification.

In a one-on-one fight, a Royal Knight couldn't match a Golden Griffin. Now, combined as a single fighting force, their strength was unmatched.

Haotian turned to his elderly steward, Horden. "With over four hundred Royal Griffin Knights and nearly fifty level-nine Royal Paladin Griffin Knights, we should have no trouble dealing with the Lizardmen tribe. I plan to launch the attack tomorrow."

"The upcoming battles will center around that sandy forest. According to the sandfolk, many magical beasts are hidden there, and they must be eliminated."

Horden nodded in agreement. With Golden Griffins as their aerial mounts, the Royal Knights could easily traverse the vast desert and reach the forest several kilometers away. In contrast, desert wolves would exhaust themselves just trying to make the journey.

This showcased the strategic value of the Golden Griffins, surpassing their unit classification. Even a crowned unit couldn't match the mobility and speed of the Golden Griffins. Flying was their inherent advantage.

Haotian continued, "After we take down the Lizardmen tribe, we'll dispatch some Royal Griffin Knights to scout the surrounding areas for other sandfolk settlements."

Horden inquired, "Are you planning to recruit more sandfolk as citizens?"

Haotian nodded. "It's crucial, both now and in the future. If we aim to establish a kingdom in the Golden Oasis, we need tens of thousands of citizens."

Horden added, "Establishing a kingdom in the Karal Desert might provoke attacks from the Sandfolk Kingdom and other desert tribes."

"That's something we'll have to face sooner or later," Haotian said with a smile. "Once the Golden Oasis is fully developed, I'll proactively declare war on those kingdoms if they remain inactive. Resources are limited, and to grow stronger and expand our territory, war is inevitable."

Horden agreed wholeheartedly. The rapid development and numerous miracles in the Golden Oasis had made him a staunch supporter of Haotian's war plans. He even hoped that his young master would quickly conquer the Karal Desert, then march on the Stanlow Kingdom, overthrow the inept king, and avenge the humiliations suffered by the Tulip family.

"Master, I'll accompany the Royal Knights to the Lizardmen tribe tomorrow."

"Good!" Haotian did not refuse. He understood Horden's urgency to improve his strength. The sudden appearance of dozens of level-nine Royal Paladin Griffin Knights, equal to Horden's level, had prompted this anxiety. While Haotian would likely recruit even stronger units in the future, Horden still had much to contribute on the battlefield. Once he could no longer keep pace with the territory's military advances, he could retire to manage day-to-day affairs.

Morning arrived quickly. The Royal Griffin Knight regiment set off early, with hundreds of massive Golden Griffins taking to the sky, forming a golden torrent as they soared towards the distant sandy forest. Each griffin bore a Royal Knight armed with a three-meter-long lance. One thrust could pierce through any Lizardman, gnoll, or desert beast.

Despite the supernatural world of the Holy Continent, the prowess of knights remained formidable.

Back at the Sapphire Lake settlement, the sandfolk began their day's work after breakfast. Their meals, though not as lavish as those prepared by the maid Sally, were filling—already a vast improvement over their previous existence of near-constant hunger.

The two thousand sandfolk were divided into three workgroups: one to quarry stone, one to fell timber, and another to harvest salt from the lake. The salt harvest was a new task assigned by Haotian. Salt was a daily necessity, in high demand, and due to its scarcity and the relatively low productivity of this world, it was quite valuable—a highly profitable venture. This explained why human caravans would travel great distances to the Karal Desert to extract salt.

Haotian intended to make salt one of the Golden Oasis's economic pillars. While not as profitable as Elven Spring Water, it would still generate significant income. For Haotian, more gold was always welcome.

In the forest, the sandfolk worked fervently, their shouts of effort filling the air. The gnoll, A'Gu, was also there, contributing with his motivational skills rather than physical labor.

Meanwhile, the sandfolk women in the settlement diligently sewed clothes from wolf pelts and fabrics.

The entire oasis buzzed with activity, a scene of thriving prosperity.
