Verona threw away her pride, thrust the damn thing far away into a place she wouldn't reach and still on her scrapped knees and soiled garments she crawled to where the giant stood.

She will beg him if she must. Something had whispered to her to try pleading with the King, that maybe things would be different. Just a word, a word from him would save the girl. He was King and she was a woman who had no dignity left, what could possibly be worse than the shame she had faced during her short walk to this place.

"Please," she begs, her voice trembling. "I beg you, don't let harm come to her. She—she is innocent, I swear it."
