It took about three days to get to Carne island.
True to Vegapunk's Observation, the island was littered with Marine presence as a huge base was set up right in the middle of the island. The base was so big that I was able to spot it from the ship with relative ease.
"We're finally here! Carne island!" I heard a crew member cheer.
"Calm down, idiot! We need to get the eternal pose first before we can celebrate!" Another crew member chided while smacking him behind the head.
"So Commander, how exactly are we going to get the eternal pose from Carne?" Ken asked.
"Simple," I responded while pulling my hoodie over my head, "I'll go there myself."
"Boris," Stussy asked, "Don't you think that the marines will make you out the moment you get there?"
"Don't worry too much about it," I replied, "I'll be in and out of there quick."
Before I could get anymore protest, I immediately vanished from the deck of the ship before appearing on the island. Using Soru to travel over long distances had now become child's play to me.
The sun was beginning to set, casting a golden light behind me as I slowly made my way into the small town of Carne. Nobody really paid attention to me as everyone was doing their own thing and minding their businesses.
I walked up closer to a marine soldier who happened to be flirting with a woman nearby.
"C'mon, don't be like that. Just come on over, I promise I'll give you a good time~"
"No~ I got to help my mom~"
After listening to them for a bit. I walked on and entered a tavern where I found a hooded figure sitting on a stool at the bar. The rest of the customers within the tavern ignored the hooded figure and continued with their conversations and drinking.
I sat right next to the figure before I ordered something to drink.
"Do you come here often?" The hooded figure asked.
"Not really, there's too many bugs here for me to tolerate," I replied.
"Can't say that I blame you. The bugs here tend to be blood thirsty, and they won't hesitate to invite more over for the feast," the hooded figure said as he slid over an eternal pose with a letter.
"Just make sure you either put on some repellant, or don't let the bugs notice you. Lest you become their next meal," the hooded figure said as it stood up to leave.
"I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the advice," I replied.
I didn't see much with my vision. However, I could tell that the figure had a metallic head hidden inside the hood. It was probably one of Vegapunk's clones, or a robot that he had created recently. Either way, it was hard to differentiate it from a human because of the manner it carried itself.
I quietly and slowly finished my drink before tipping the waiter and leaving the bar. Throughout the whole time, nobody seemed to be paying attention to me. Using my Observation Haki, I used it to sense the emotions that they had been within the people around me as I slowly stepped out of the tavern.
There wasn't anything too suspicious within their emotions. However, I could sense a hint of suspicion within one of them as I stepped out.
I could even feel the gaze of the individual as I walked out of the tavern. Only time would tell if he would actually follow me.
Seeing that I had a bit more time on my hands than I would have liked, I decided to take a stroll around the town and see what else it had to offer.
I had also ran out of cigarettes in the ship a bit earlier, so I was looking for a smoke shop that I could've used to resupply before we went to the pirates festival.
Sure enough, the man was following me.
I tried ignoring him for the first half of my search for a smoke shop. However, I slowly began to lose patience as he kept on stumbling whenever he tripped on a rock. I immediately used Soru to appear behind him before I asked.
"Are you looking for something?"
My sudden appearance scared the wits out of him as he instantly stumbled and fell on the ground as he tried to scramble away from me.
"You've been following me for a while.....why?" I asked the man.
I wasn't planning on killing him because I knew that it would probably cause a bit of a fuss later on. So giving him a bit of a scare was definitely going to be the way to go for him.
"Y-you aren't from here! How could I just let you walk around without watching you?!" The man stammered.
"What are you trying to be? A hero? If you really feel that way, join the Marines," I replied casually.
"I-I am! I'll be an admiral soon!" The man exclaimed proudly.
"Wait, are you a marine already?"
"Y-yes! Although I'm just a simple soldier, I'll rise up to the ranks soon enough!"
"Whatever, just keep your mouth shut about me."
"No! I'll be reporting you to the Marine Vice-Admiral soon!!"
"Do whatever you want, I doubt that they'll believe you," I replied.
I used Soru to vanish out of the alley before reappearing on a roof top. I was determined not to leave before I found a damn smoke shop.
"Dammit, I should've asked him about it..." I contemplated whether or not I should go back and find him.
I sighed before using Soru to disappear and reappear at what I thought would be the Commercial District.
I had already visited the place before, but I just wanted to make sure that I didn't leave any stone unturned.
"Nothing...." For the first time in ages, I felt a bit sad about that.
In the distance, I sensed multiple presences gathering together while one person frantically led them about. It was almost as if they were looking for something.....or someone.
Remembering that I wasn't meant to be causing trouble. I immediately used Soru to disappear from the area before reappearing on the deck of our ship.
Tossing the eternal pose to the navigators, I immediately headed to bed without any question.
Back in the deck, I could already hear the crew cheering as they immediately chided the Navigators to get to steering.
"C'mon! The Festival might end when we get there!"
"Shut up! I know what I'm doing, make yourself useful and help around the ship!"
"Man I hope we can find some women there, asides from Ms. Stussy, there's literally no one to fool around with."
"Who'd fool around with you?! You look like a Barnacle Fishman!!"
"The fuck you call me?!"
I could hear all the noise and fussing that they were doing up on the ship. Stussy was drinking tea somewhere near the back of the ship to avoid all the noise, and Ken was doing nothing to contain the situation.
Pato only kept on watching because he was having fun. I could hear his little chuckles from all the way in the cabin. The noise was slowly growing out of proportion, and the only thing I could've done was cover my head within the sheets.
Ah, I missed my cigarettes.
Let me know what y'all think!!!
Love y'all!!!!
