It was a fight trying to get Labrys back from the sea.
The debree had collapse under Labrys' weight leading it to sink all the way down, until it landed on the skin of a particularly large sea king. If it weren't for the fact that I had sensed blood coming from the bottom. I don't think that I would've been able to get the axe back ever.
I quickly let myself sink faster within the sea so that I could get to the axe faster. I didn't want the sea king to run away when I was too close to it. It was then that I managed to find Labrys and grab it by the handle. The sea king immediately took note of my presence on its body.
Moreover, it promptly began to move around so that it could shake me off. I ultimately decided not to let go, because I was far too deep to leap out of its waters, I was going to need something to propell me back to the surface; and I planned to use this seak king to do so.
I slowly embedded the axe deep into the sea kings body. It took a lot of strength out of me because I was losing more stamina than usual under the sea. I was also beginning to feel my strength leaving me bit by bit. This was an anticipated risk, so I needed to quicken this process and get back to the surface.
Using Labrys as a lever, I quickly leaped to the other side, so that now I would be facing the same direction that the Sea King would be facing. Before promptly tilting Labrys upwards, the blade of the axe shifted slightly, making the sea king let out a groan of pain before shooting upwards.
The force that was generated from the pull was so strong that it took a lot out of me to stay aboard. My oxygen was also slowly beginning to wane as I began to feel a little bit light headed, but I could see the surface of the sea coming closer and closer. So I needed to hold on for a bit longer.
Finally, the sea king broke out of the surface, and promptly tossed me and Labrys away.
The axe and I ended up soaring in the air for quite a bit, I took that oppurtunity to refresh my lungs with some air before using moonwalk to stabilize my altitude. I quickly grabbed the handle of Labrys before swinging the little particles of water out of it. After inspecting it for any signs of wear and tear, I promptly looked at Labrys in satisfaction before making my way back to the island where we had been settling in.
I landed on one of the ships that we had taken charge of. Only to be greeted with Stussy and Ken, who seemed to be discussing something with the navigator while they all stare at the latest edition of the World Economic News. They all seemed to be quite serious about it as well, giving the atmosphere that I had landed in a foreboding undertone.
"Something happen?" I asked, strapping Labrys on my back.
Stussy took the paper that the trio had been sharing before handing off to me. I only looked at the front page before understanding the gist of their little meet up.
"The Golden Lion Pirates went to war with the Big Mom Pirates...Weird," I remarked.
"Isn't this great news? This would mean that we don't have to fight the trio of Big Mom, Kaido and Shiki; right?" Ken asked hopefully.
"You could put it that way," Stussy murmured passively.
"Worst case scenario would be the Big Mom Pirates losing their territory, making Shiki very close to our own territory," I muttered solemnly, "the best case might be the two pirate groups inflicting severe damages towards each other without us having to do anything."
Ken and Stussy nodded in understanding as I continued to read more of the Newspaper. Asides from the conflict of the New World, there wasn't much else going on. I passively tried looking for any signs of Kuzan and Sakazuki, but there weren't any traces of them to be seen on the Newspaper. I sighed before handing the paper back to the navigator.
It was then that I got a call from my transponder snail. It seemed a little too convinient in timing, but I picked up the call regardless. Only to be hearing the roaring laughter of a very happy Whitebeard.
"Did you see the News, brat?! Those two morons went at it even before we could start fighting!" Whitebeard roared in more laughter, "We're going to end up winning a fight without having to do anything!"
"That's all well and good, Old Man. However, that doesn't mean that this has officially blown over. As far as I know, this can all be a ruse to confuse the world, while they scheme against us in the dark," I commented darkly.
"Gurararararara!!! Like I give a damn about what those idiots do behind closed doors! Just enjoy the momentary peace that the news has given us," Whitebeard commented jovially, "but remember brat, keep an ear out for anymore rumors concerning them."
"Will do," I replied aloofly.
Just like that, Whitebeard hung up the call.
Stussy and Ken waited patiently for my next plan of action. It was clear that this sudden turn of events had given us enough breathing room for some piece. However, that brief moment of prosperity was akin to a simmering volcano just waiting to erupt. I needed to make sure that my crew would be ready for any sudden turn of events from here on out. To do that, I needed the crew to be much stronger than they were before and a new ship to boot.
I looked at the duo before I started giving out orders.
"We're still going to Water 7 to get a new ship, but afterwords, I want to stay in Paradise for a little while longer."
"What's wrong?" Stussy asked worriedly.
"We're just going to pick up a few things here and there, and also, I want to strengthen the crew. So this scenario won't happen again," I replied aloofly.
"Boris, they are already stronger than most crews within the world. Even Roger's crew would have to go out of their way to fight them," Stussy replied.
"That's all well and good, but how did they end up getting injured by these pirates?" I asked curiously, pointing towards the navigator and the rest of the Pirate crew that I had decided to shrink in size.
"That's-" Stussy began, but was rudely interrupted by Ken.
"That's because we were ambushed," Ken declared confidently, "The ship was already in horrible condition when we landed after you threw us away. The ambush simply finished the job for the ship, the crew members got even more injured trying to block the cannon balls from reaching the ship. However, they failed as well."
I looked at them for a bit before sighing, Stussy did have a point about them being strong. Moreover, they were dealing with Sakazuki of all people before they got raided by the pirates. I resolved myself to letting this pass this once, but they wouldn't get a second chance.
I took out a cigarette before lighting it, and made my way back to the town. I had been roaming around for a while, and I wanted to get some rest, if only for a moment.
