Capítulo 27: Chapter 27

"What? No S.H.I.E.L.D. agents allowed within the boundaries of the mutant school, no surveillance on mutant students or their families, no disruption of your lives. Professor Charles, aren't your demands a bit excessive?

As an organization dedicated to maintaining the peace and security of all humanity, S.H.I.E.L.D. has the right to intervene against any existence that threatens human safety!" Nick Fury replied angrily.

For some reason, ever since they had started face-to-face negotiations, he found that Professor X's tone had become much firmer, presenting conditions that he found utterly baffling.

S.H.I.E.L.D. was already involved; how could they possibly return to their lives before?

"Even if the presidential attack truly had nothing to do with you, it's undeniable that Mr. Kurt Wagner, your associate, was the executor and indeed possesses the ability to teleport, which in itself is a threat.

Professor Charles, I can agree to your other requests, but on one condition: all mutants must be registered in the S.H.I.E.L.D. database so we can respond promptly to any threats.

Of course, I assure you that this information related to mutants will only be stored in our S.H.I.E.L.D. database and will not be leaked to any other agency, including the CIA and FBI!" Nick Fury gave his final stance.

"Director Fury, let me be clear, that is impossible. Most mutants are not as dangerous as you imagine; instead, they face various dangers brought by humans.

If there is indeed a crisis involving mutants, you can notify me, and I will address it with my X-Men," Professor X firmly rejected Fury's request, as this was his line in the sand.

"Professor Charles, understand that if this fight continues, you will ultimately be the ones who lose. I only wish to prevent things from getting out of control, which is why I'm willing to negotiate here," Fury's tone also became more assertive.

Professor X didn't trust him, and he likewise didn't trust Professor X. Handing over control of mutant threats to mutants was ludicrous.

Besides, they still had the upper hand, and he believed that in the end, it would be Professor X who would compromise.

As Fury's words ended, the atmosphere became instantly tense.

Just as the situation was about to explode, a cold voice suddenly broke the deadlock.

"Charles, I've always told you, humans have always been like this. They always fear beings who are different from them, and sooner or later, they will attempt to exterminate all mutants. Now do you see?"

"Magneto!"

Hearing this voice, Nick Fury's pupils shrank, and he turned to see Magneto, Mystique, and Hawkins descending from the Quinjet.

Only then did he realize that Hawkins's absence was not because he was changing clothes inside the jet.

Somehow, under his watch, Hawkins had sneaked into the Quinjet and freed Magneto and Mystique.

"I've been careless."

Fury quickly turned to Captain Marvel.

"Capture him!"

"Snap!"

With a flick of his fingers, Magneto destroyed the brainwave interference devices around the necks of Fury, Captain Marvel, Captain Carter, and all the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, causing them to freeze as if time had stopped.

Hawkins hadn't freed Magneto to join forces against Captain Marvel; with his current power, even a joint effort stood no chance.

His goal was for Magneto to destroy the interference devices so Professor X's formidable psychic abilities could come into play.

"Erik, they do not represent all of humanity. Don't give up on humans just like that," Professor X replied with a smile.

Magneto just shook his head, unable to persuade Charles, nor could Charles persuade him.

As old friends and foes for decades, they understood each other too well.

"Ah!"

At that moment, Captain Marvel roared, breaking free from Professor X's psychic control.

"I advise you not to move, or they might all end up dead," Hawkins warned, pointing at the immobilized Fury and others.

Captain Marvel, having absorbed the vast energy of the light-speed engine, was almost no longer human. Her internal energy was off the charts, making her exceptionally resistant to all forms of attack, with virtually no weaknesses.

Professor X's psychic control affected her, but it was not decisive.

"What do you want?" Captain Marvel asked gravely, looking at Professor X.

She was aware of Magneto and Professor X's abilities, understanding that even with her speed, she couldn't outpace Professor X's thoughts.

Especially with Hawkins, who could transform into a Great Ape at any moment, and the formidable Magneto nearby.

"We simply wish not to be disturbed and do not seek a war with humanity. Please tell Director Fury that I will bring Colonel Stryker and evidence of his crimes to your headquarters in two days for a thorough discussion," Professor X left these words as he and the others boarded the jet.

Only after the X-Jet had completely disappeared from the sky did Fury and his team regain their normal functions.

"Fury, are you alright?" Captain Marvel asked, rushing over to check on him.

Fury, watching the mutants and the X-Jet vanish, showed a brief flash of confusion in his eyes before regaining his composure. He looked at Captain Marvel and asked, "Was that Professor X using his abilities?"

"Yes, he asked me to tell you that," Captain Marvel nodded, briefly summarizing the events that had just unfolded.

After listening, Fury sighed heavily.

"It looks like we need to assemble the Avengers sooner rather than later."

"Director Fury, I actually think Professor Charles makes some good points. They are victims too," Captain Carter interjected, joining the conversation with her shield in hand.

Influenced by her once-lover Steve, her ideology clashed somewhat with the current Nick Fury. She had initially come to help capture the mutants responsible for the presidential attack. But now it seemed the real masterminds were not the mutants.

Had she known this, she wouldn't have helped Fury fight; she might as well have searched for the missing Steve or visited Bucky, who was now seriously ill in the hospital.

In 1945, to stop Red Skull from unleashing Hydra from another dimension, she alone pushed Hydra back into another dimension and fought fiercely to destroy it.

She had planned to go dancing with Steve after coming out of that space, but when it reopened, instead of seeing Steve, Howard, and Bucky, she was greeted by a bald black man with one eye.

He introduced himself as Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., which was essentially the Strategic Scientific Reserve reformed.

Tragically, what felt like just minutes in the other dimension had been fifty-five years in the real world.

Howard had died, Bucky had aged, and her love, Steve Rogers, had disappeared without a trace fifty-five years ago and was still missing.
