"That is unnecessary, Lucien," Winter refused. She reached to her neck and caressed a white jade necklace she had worn today. "I already wear one right now. I'll wear this ruby necklace for important events instead since it's very expensive."

Lucien's grin slowly dissipated when he saw Winter's necklace. He didn't know if it was just a coincidence or if she was using this trick deliberately to make sure that she wouldn't need to wear the necklace that Lucien had given her.

It'd be good if it was just a coincidence, but knowing Winter, she probably already thought about this. 

Meanwhile, Sebastian also had the same question. He didn't think much of the necklace that Winter wore today, thinking it just looked so pretty on her.

But now, Sebastian believed it was Winter's way to make sure that Lucien couldn't touch her.
