4.22% MR. CEO, MY GREAT ENEMY / Chapter 3: CH 03: WRONG MOMENT

Capítulo 3: CH 03: WRONG MOMENT

GABRIEL KNIGHT'S POV

As I sat in my office, the weight of the upcoming event in another country heavy on my mind, I couldn't shake the feeling of restlessness that gnawed at my insides. The flyer in my hand served as a constant reminder of the looming deadline and the importance of the occasion. It wouldn't be a good idea if I don't go there with a spouse or with a girl to call my own.

Lost in thought, I barely registered the sound of the door opening, my attention fully focused on the task at hand. But as my personal assistant entered the room, her expression grave, I knew something was amiss.

"Mr. Knight, there's someone here to see you," she said, her tone serious.

I looked up, surprised by the interruption. "Who is it?" I asked, setting aside the flyer and focusing my attention on her.

The door swung open wider, revealing a man of similar age to myself, his demeanor calm yet authoritative. "Mr. Knight, my name is David Matthews," he said, extending a hand in greeting.

I rose from my chair, returning his handshake with a firm grip. "Mr. Matthews, what can I do for you?" I asked, curiosity piqued by his unexpected visit.

David's expression was inscrutable as he took a seat opposite me, his eyes locked with mine. "I'm here to discuss a matter of mutual interest," he began, his voice measured.

I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his cryptic words. "Please sit..Go on," I said, gesturing for him to continue and offering him to sit down.

David Sat down and leaned forward, his gaze unwavering. "I represent a consortium of investors who are interested in partnering with your company," he explained, his tone serious.

I felt a surge of interest at his words, the prospect of new opportunities sparking a flicker of excitement deep within me. "And what exactly do they have in mind?" I asked, leaning in closer.

David's lips curled into a slight smile, a glint of anticipation in his eyes. "They believe that together, we could take your company to new heights," he said, his voice tinged with confidence.

I listened to David's proposal with a sense of detachment, his words washing over me like distant echoes in a vast chamber. Despite the allure of new opportunities, my mind remained fixed on the pressing matters at hand – namely, the event looming on the horizon.

"Mr. Matthews, while I appreciate your offer, I'm afraid I'm not interested at this time," I said, my tone firm yet polite.

David's expression faltered for a moment, a flicker of disappointment crossing his features. "But Mr. Knight, I assure you, this partnership could be mutually beneficial for both our companies," he pleaded, desperation creeping into his voice.

I shook my head, unmoved by his entreaties. "I understand, Mr. Matthews, but I have other priorities at the moment," I said, gesturing towards the flyer on my desk. "Perhaps in the future, we can revisit this discussion."

David's shoulders slumped in defeat, but he nodded in understanding. "Of course, Mr. Knight," he said, rising from his seat. "I appreciate your time, and I hope you'll consider my proposal."

I offered him a polite nod as he made his way to the door, a sense of relief washing over me as he departed. Alone once more, I turned my attention back to the flyer in my hand, the urgency of the upcoming event weighing heavily on my mind.

But even as I immersed myself in preparations for the event, a lingering sense of curiosity nagged at me, wondering what might have been if I had entertained David's proposal. Pushing aside the thought for the time being, I resolved to focus on the task at hand, knowing that the success of the event could mean everything for the future of my company.

As I sat at my desk, still mulling over the unexpected visit from David Matthews, my personal assistant broke the silence, her voice pulling me back to the present moment.

"Mr. Knight, have you heard back from Ms. Parker regarding the... arrangement?" she asked, her tone carefully neutral.

I sighed inwardly, the memory of my conversation with Elena Parker still fresh in my mind. "Not yet, Sarah," I replied, shaking my head. "But I suspect she'll come around eventually...nobody rejects the CEO"

Sarah nodded, her expression unreadable. "Are you sure this is the right course of action, Mr. Knight?" she asked, her tone gentle yet probing.

I paused, considering her question carefully. "I believe it's necessary, Sarah," I said finally, my voice firm. "Reuniting with old partners with a wife by my side is the right course of action "

Sarah's expression softened, understanding dawning in her eyes. "I see, Mr. Knight," she said, nodding in acquiescence. "I'll make sure to follow up with Ms. Parker and keep you informed of any developments."

"Thank you, Sarah," I said, offering her a grateful smile. "That will be all for now."

After Sarah stood up to leave my office, I made a mental note to follow up with Elena Parker regarding the arrangement...she's the only beautful and bold lady in this company that i know, because i don't know all my employers. But before I could delve further into my thoughts, another idea sparked in my mind.

"Sarah wait... could you prepare a blue card for Ms. Parker?" I called out, my voice firm with resolve.

Sarah turned back, surprise evident in her expression. "Of course, Mr. Knight," she replied, quickly jotting down the instruction.

"And make sure to increase her salary as well," I added, my tone leaving no room for argument.

Sarah nodded, a hint of approval in her gaze. "Consider it done, Mr. Knight," she said, before disappearing to carry out my orders.

As I watched her leave, a sense of satisfaction settled over me. While my decision regarding the arrangement with Elena Parker weighed heavily on my conscience, I knew that compensating her fairly was the least I could do.

With the blue card and increased salary in place, I hoped it would serve as a small token of appreciation for her future cooperation. A blue card is given to every dilligent worker, you can take a day off at your own will and your salary would still be paid to you. I hope giving this to her won't make her stay out of work. I thought and And as I returned to my work, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of anticipation, wondering how Elena would respond to the gesture , I hope she finds it as a token and not as a bribe.
