Capítulo 40: 39 . Hidden agenda and unknown goals
POV : MIKAEL
Mikael's eye shot open before even the door could be knocked . All his senses returned to him in and instant that wanted to overwhelm him but his anger was stronger , fiercer and it wanted someone to pay .
' HAEVY BREATHING '
His breath was heavy and course as he ground his teeth in anger . ' All that for nothing !' . Mikael had given his body one simple command , as long as any one approached or was a bout to knock the door , he would awaken . Irrespective of how close he was about to achieve his goals . A safety precaution
' He was soo close !! ' He thought and remembered the feeling . He was just at the final step . The final hurdle that he was about to surpass and he was denied !!! But why did it feel like he was missing something . A single piece that would have made everything easier . Or had he misunderstood something about the entire process easier .
What made Mikael more indigent was that he did not know if he would be able to reach that state again . It could have been a fluke . A one time thing and it had been wasted ! But that did not matter for someone such as himself . Could anything e considered a mistake to a genius . If he was able to do it for the first time , what was stopping him from achieving a second one .
' KNOCK KNOCK '
He wanted to scream bloody murder . to slit the throat of the person on the other side of the door who did not know how to mind their own business . How dare they interrupt him !! Couldn't they at least waited 10 minutes .
His hands reached for his head but he stopped just in time . He would rather not do something he would later regret .
He clenched his hands tightly . On the brink of drawing blood as he continued to breathe heavily .He had to calm down . He had to control himself . He would do it again . No matter what , he had to do it , their was no other option !! And with that thought , his anger bled away .
He felt his out of control emotions relax quickly and he hurriedly approached the door . He schooled his earlier crazed visage as his breathing went back to a slow steady pace
' Every thing will work out ' Mikael thought and pulled the door open .
Standing there was Zen his hood covering his features as he avoided looking directly at Mikael . Something which he had noticed about Zen was his behavior was more out of not caring than nervousness . Or was he simply indifferent to most things . Mikael wondered how his fellow newbie felt about the whole of this contestant situation . Was he afraid , joyfully , or was it just normal a normal Monday to him
Mikael felt he looked to relax . Or had he already gone through worse in his previous missions . Hardship was the only true thing that was able to build the character of a person .
" Renny's calling you , he said if you payed a good price he could help you unlock a title . " Zen said and silently stood in waiting .
His eyes opened slightly to showcase his shock . Maybe Zen interrupting him was worth it . With the presence of a title on the table even he would have to pay attention . Mikael was not foolish enough to let the opportunity go and quickly agreed . Something he had realized about titles was that they made you stronger simply by equipping them and the more you had the better . Who would not want free attribute points or a free skill that came with a title !
" Lead the way " He said excitedly not enough to sound desperate but enough to show his obvious elation with the opportunity . No matter how important a title was to Mikael , he still had a role to play while in front of his temporary team members . But now as he thought about it , why was Renny offering to give him information about a tittle . It did not make sense .
First of all , Mikael was confident in his act enough to believe that they understood he did not have enough points . That he was sure of , then what was Renny trying to do here . Or was the title that insignificant that Renny would want their miniscule points for . That also did not make sense . A growing plot was happening behind closed doors ,a plot that Mikael knew he was involved in .
Even as they begun their walk back to the lower floors of the tavern , Mikael could here the excited chatter that was going on . Disjointed voices of happy drunkards , the scratching of chairs against the floor and the banging on wooden mugs over tables . Songs being sung in horrible rhythm lacking both flow and consistently but despite all this , Mikael could feel the joy that the place held . The simplicity of their happiness was infectious
" Ayeee . . moo..reee meeeaaaddd "
" Jacob yeaaar bllooodddy thiiieeeff . . . were ma drink be !!!"
" Whoo be touching ma leegg !! "
Mikael was finally able to see the chaos the place represented . The laughter , the fights the songs . the dancing . It was all mixing into a strange sound which he was forced to hear . But lowering his senses when he was being led to a potential trap was idiotic . He could run away , but that would only strengthen the idea Renny had in his head about Mikael , whether good or bad .
He quickly followed Zen who continued walking leaving him behind in his observations . He was navigating the crowded tavern with a certain precision in his steps as he approached Renny , who Mikael was seeing hidden away at one of the taverns outer ends .
. They arrived at the hidden Conner of the tavern with a low amount of people sited around , less noisy that the other rowdy people . People who preferred to drink silently while observing the roguish crowd and some talking silently to each other , whispering silent conversations as they chuckled silently to themselves to a joke only they could understand . Mikael felt this type of people were more responsible , never getting pulled in by the energy of the crowd , never falling under pressure to the voices of the crowd and he respected that fact .
Mikael eye's met with one of the persons from this tables . A quick exchange which the man responded by smiling slightly exposing his one golden tooth after which Mikael walked past them and approached another table situated in this dark connor where both Von and Renny were sited waiting for them as they also sipped from their drinks .
They both sat down at the round wooden table and Mikael was at least expectant of what Von and Renny would say .
They were both sipping on their ales .Von being his ever loud self while Renny was just listening .
" Finally , I was getting tired waiting for you!! . Renny be quick with it , that fine lass over there is giving me the eyes !! Ha ha ha " Von said smiling brightly . His rough skin had a red coloring on the cheeks and he swayed slightly under the influence of who knows how much alcohol . Infact , after he finished talking he directly stood up " See you later !! " Patience was obviously not a virtue he understood .
He said disappearing among the dancing crowd going to join the wild fury . Von just shook his head and said nothing about the behavior . He was either used to it or just did not care . But Mikael was seeing more than they wanted him to see , he was also hearing more .
" The information I'm about to give you will cost each of you 2500 Achievement points . " He said mildly as if the Title was of no importance but Mikael was not one to be put off . But he would also not show all his cards . There was something wrong with how Renny was looking at him . A hidden challenge in his words .
Mikael put up a frown and slightly gritted his teeth . He started fretting on his sit trying to show his discomfort and from how he could see the sharpness in the eyes of Renny had decreased , what he was doing was working . But why , was it his reluctance to part with the Achievement points or was it simply his behavior
Mikael had noticed a change in Renny since the pony express incident . Renny had started looking at him weirdly . As if he was constantly surveying him , waiting for him to act for some odd reason . Or was it more of caution . Had Mikael messed up . Unlikely , there was something else . Something that troubled Renny that only he knew
He had also noticed this observation continue as they approached the table . With how Von had pretended to leave the group while in fact he was waiting a couple of sits behind where the group was sitting . How Mikael knew this , his sense of smell and hearing were working on overboard his hearing doing more of the work . He had paid attention as Von walked away , tracking his steps until he stopped . How they really failed was forgetting the fact that Von was a loud person , the lack of his shouting voice was even more noticeable .
A person like Von was difficult to not identify . He was loud , liked laughing and had a high charm stat from what Mikael could see . The lack of any of these was worrying with how Mikael had already memorized Vons distinct laugh .
Also , Zen sited beside him had done something that had raised his vigilance when they arrived . He had gone counter to his behavior .
Zen from the little Mikael had seen , was an introvert or more specifically , he liked keeping to himself . Meaning in an event that they were taking their sitting positions , he would take the corner sit or the sit less likely to get him to be first approached by people and he had done the exact opposite of that .
Zen had taken the sit that would box Mikael in to the taverns walls , meaning he could not get out normally of their sitting arrangement without first Zen moving from where he sat . This meant Mikael was boxed in from all sides .
His back was to Von , his front was occupied by Renny and Zen prevented him from easily running from the side . A truly brilliant way to trap someone without making them aware of what you were doing . He wondered which unlucky person at one time had also been put under this same situation .
But Mikael was smiling . Not a smile that anyone could see . But a hidden smile that only he could understand . A smile soo hideouse that anyone would have called the cops on him .
Mikael suddenl stopped grinding his teeth and still showing his discourse with the whole thing agreed with Von .
" Okay . . (Says silently ) Damn it , those were my last points " He said and the exchange was quickly accomplished . The system made such things very easy .
But his act worked . He could see the relaxation happen in Renny's body language and the intent that was making his perception go crazy disappeared .
