Somewhere in the city, Macao and Wakaba stood panting heavily. They were both long-time friends and guildmates, with similar strengths and a deep understanding of each other's fighting styles.
Despite their camaraderie, they'd been battling for a while without a clear winner.
Suddenly, the words on the barrier surrounding them changed, revealing new instructions: "Reveal each other's deepest secrets, and the one with the most shocking truth wins!"
The two of them stopped, taken aback by the unexpected turn of events. Initially, they suspected Everit's hand in this; as Freed wasn't one for pranks or meddling in personal affairs.
But all kinds of complex emotions surged in their hearts and they couldn't control it.
Macao, not one to hold back, blurted out, "Wakaba hits on every new girl who joins the guild. He even said that if Cana agreed to go out with him, he'd divorce his wife!"
"Traitor!" Wakaba snapped back, his face turning red with anger. "Macao once said that even though Erza has a short fuse, she's incredibly attractive, and he'd be okay getting smacked around by her!"
The tension rose, and the red-eyed special effects kicked in.
Both were about to unleash their next attack when Everit appeared, shaking his head with an amused expression. "I didn't expect these answers," he said, his voice filled with mock surprise.
"I thought you'd just reveal simple stuff, like who hides money from their spouse. But this? This is way more interesting."
"Macao!" Wakaba hissed, "What have you done? Now Everit knows!"
"Don't tell my wife, please!" Macao pleaded, a hint of desperation in his voice.
"Yeah, don't tell anyone, or I'm toast!" Wakaba joined in, equally frantic.
Everit smirked, letting them stew for a moment. "So, how many times did you two poke the cursed doll you bought?"
The two men froze, caught off guard by the unexpected question.
Macao stammered, "Uh, just a few times... two or three, maybe?"
"Yeah, same for me," Wakaba replied, his guilt evident. "It's just a joke, really. Everyone was buying them, so I thought I'd try it."
"Exactly! It's just a silly thing to do. It's not like I actually believed it would work. It's just... you know, for fun," Macao quickly added.
"We're just curious uncles, that's all," Wakaba said, attempting to downplay their actions. "Don't take it seriously, okay? It's just a toy! I kept it with my other collectibles."
"Right! We're not into weird stuff. Believe us!" Macao chimed in.
Everit sighed dramatically, shaking his head as if disappointed. "You know, you're both terrible liars."
The two guildmates felt their hearts sink, but Everit continued, "But since I was the one who set you up with this little prank, I'll let it slide. Just remember, secrets are only fun if no one gets hurt, okay?"
The two men nodded rapidly, relieved they had gotten off the hook. "Got it! Thank you!" they exclaimed in unison, grateful to be back in the clear.
"Everit, you're as charming and kind-hearted as ever!"
The two older men showered him with praise, feeling a sense of relief. Even though Everit was known for his pranks, he still had his principles.
"That's what I thought," Everit replied, pointing in another direction with a resigned expression, "but unfortunately, I promised these two ladies I'd help them find your secrets."
The two men instantly turned pale.
"Wakaba!"
"Macao!"
The angry voices echoed down the street. Everit turned away with a sense of dread.
"Ahhh—"
"Everit!"
A scream that could shatter glass erupted from behind him.
Everit, without turning back, raised his camera, clicked the shutter, and sighed with compassion.
*Click*
Meanwhile, Happy was soaring through the sky. He'd helped Gray defeat Bickslow, and after rescuing Mirajane, they set off to find their next opponent.
Happy felt his magic power waning. Gray suggested he return to the guild, where he could quickly recharge with the help of the guild master.
"Happy!" someone shouted from below.
"Huh?"
It was Mrs. Maggie, the food shop owner who often took care of Natsu and Happy.
"I've got some tasty new fish snacks. Would you like to try them?" Maggie asked.
"Of couese!" Happy replied with excitement, but then hesitated. "But I have to get back to the guild. Something's going on there."
"Really? Here, take some with you for later," Maggie replied with understanding.
"Thanks a lot!" Happy beamed. "If they're as good as they look, I'll come back and buy a whole bunch!"
"Thank you for your patronage," Maggie said with a smile. "Follow me."
He led Happy into the shop.
Happy suddenly stiffened, his wings disappearing as if the magic holding him aloft was abruptly cut off, and he tumbled to the ground.
"Happy, are you alright?" The person nearby asked with concern.
"E-Everit..." Happy's voice quivered. "I'm not a fighter."
He had come across Everit all alone!
Happy felt as if a giant flashing sign reading "DANGER" had just appeared over his head.
"Of course," Everit replied with a smile. "By the way, didn't you borrow my body and my magic a few days ago? I bet you had a lot of fun, huh?"
"A-ah..." Happy shuddered at his words.
Normally, Happy wouldn't be so scared. Everit loved playing pranks, but he usually had a sense of restraint.
However, Freed had recently spiked Everit's drink with whiskey, turning him into a completely different person—someone with a darker, more sinister edge!
That was a dangerous combination!
Happy shook uncontrollably as he recalled an incident two years ago— a day that was remembered as a complete disaster by everyone in the guild!
"Huh?" Everit pressed with a teasing tone.
"Everit!" Happy fumbled through his bag, almost begging, "I'll give you all my fish!"
"Why do you have so many fish?" Everit retorted, smiling mischievously. "Are you trying to bribe me? Cute kittens like you need to step up their game!"
"I don't want your fish; I have something else in mind," Everit replied, a smile spreading across his face.
Something else?
Happy let out a sigh of relief. As long as Everit wasn't focused on him with those malevolent intentions, he could breathe easier.
Everit was smart, and he probably wouldn't ask for anything Happy couldn't provide.
"Okay, what do you want?" asked Happy, trying to mask his unease.
Everit grinned. What could he possibly ask for?
"Cat bells."
"Bells?" Happy was puzzled and shook his head. "I'm not wearing a bell."
Everit grinned mischievously and looked down at Happy.
Suddenly, Happy felt a cold breeze on his backside, sending a shiver up his spine.
"What are you doing?" Happy asked, taking a step back in fear. But he bumped into someone.
When he turned around, he saw several people in white lab coats, all veterinarians.
"This cat is due for neutering, right?" the lead veterinarian asked.
"Yes, that's correct," Everit replied, nodding.
"Everit!" Happy was shocked and quickly tried to fly away.
But before he could, an anesthetic needle was plunged into his back.
"Natsu...save..." Happy fell asleep before he could finish his words.
When he woke up, he was under a bright, round surgical light, surrounded by doctors in masks.
He was lying on an operating table, feeling numb all over and experiencing a dull ache below his waist.
"You're awake, little kitten," the doctor said, taking off his mask with a smile. "Congratulations, the operation was successful."
"!!!!!"
Happy looked down and saw a band-aid in a very concerning area.
"Ahhh——"
Happy let out a horrified scream.
At the same time, there was a 'click' from the corner of the room. Everit took a photo, grinning widely.
Everit realized that if a certain little she-cat saw this photo in the future, Happy'd be in trouble.
Even though Happy wasn't actually neutered, the existence of this photo gave Everit all the emotional blackmail material he needed.
