Capítulo 97: Chapter 96

Four hours later, Kenshin and his sons were two hundred kilometers from home, and were approaching the Hinohara outpost. In the fifty years since its founding, Hinohara Outpost has become something of a small town populated by shinobi. This place was unique, because it was here that shinobi who did not belong to any of the structures could take missions, trade, and exchange information.

"Follow the legend, as we agreed," Kenshin mentally warned his sons, approaching the outpost with a simple step.

- Who are they? – The man sitting at the checkpoint asked lazily. He had the Konoha protector on his forehead and his gaze was filled with arrogance towards outsiders.

- We came in search of work. "Kenshin answered politely, using his charisma. He only slightly felt the mood of his interlocutor, and guessed that he simply did not care about them.

- Come on in, but be quiet. We don't need aggressive youths here who came from their backwoods and are accustomed to being the center of attention. This is not your lousy village, and if you try to break the law, you will be killed in an instant. Got it?

- Yes. We won't cause any problems. "Kenshin answered just as politely, not wanting to irritate this eternal Genin in any way. Even a simple Genin from Konoha could find it offensive to be disrespected by a common man, even if accompanied by two strong Genin and a Chunin. The Konoha Genin had no doubt that Kenshin was a simple person. Shinobi could easily determine the approximate rank of a person by the slightest movements and reaction speed.

When Kenshin and his sons found themselves inside the walls, they could not contain their surprise. The appearance of this small town was different from all the villages they had seen before. All the houses were made of stone, and stood in a special, military order, so that it would be more convenient to hold the defense.

Kenshin asked the nearest passer-by for directions to the desired building, and immediately headed there. What followed was an hour and a half of bureaucracy that Kenshin hated. He had to fill out a few documents at the reception desk and then wait until the deputy head of the outpost could receive him.

- So you want to register your group of mercenaries? – A black-haired man with a scar on his left eye immediately asked sitting at the table.

- Yes, that's right. - Kenshin said, and after a slight nod from his interlocutor, he sat down on a chair.

- The head of a group of mercenaries who does not have chakra... Looks strange, don't you think? "He asked Kenshin with a smile, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms over his chest.

- It's not quite like that, Setoru-san. We live in a small mountain village, and lately we have had problems with food supplies. The elder, my father, found two of the most talented guys in the settlement, and also sent my older brother here. Unfortunately, they don't know how to negotiate at all, so I went with them the first time. – Kenshin explained with a smile. He thought over the legend for quite a long time, and in discussions with Kasumi he even found the necessary settlement on the map, in which she met several talented shinobi who did not belong to any force.

- You want to carry out missions for a reward, you say... A bit of a strange name for a group of mercenaries, considering that most of this group is not related to each other. – Yamada said skeptically to Satoru, and arched his eyebrow, waiting for Kenshin's answer.

- The fact is that we are all relatives in one way or another, and bear the same surname. Gojo's mother is my second cousin, and Mitsuo's father was found in the mountains by my grandfather's cousin and given the surname Nakayama. That's why our group is called the Nakayama Family. "Kenshin said with a slight smile. At this moment, he once again praised himself for the right decision to go on a mission as a negotiator.

- Hmm, that's how it goes... Okay, each member of the group must fill out a form. Come tomorrow morning and I will find you a test mission. Free.

Kenshin politely said goodbye, and left the office, and then out of the building itself, heading to a small hotel, which the receptionist kindly suggested to him.

Once outside the doors of the four-person room, Kenshin deployed a simple formation, and only then breathed a sigh of relief. Yamada Satoru reminded him of a cunning old bloodhound, ready at any moment to pick up a scent and take the trail.

Kenshin tiredly collapsed into bed and advised his sons to do the same. After resting after the hard journey, they headed to a local diner and ate well, then walked around the town, taking in the sights, of which there were only a few. The four-story building of the head of the outpost, and the large watchtower in which Kenshin first saw a member of the Hyuuga clan.

A man of about forty just glared at Kenshin with his white eyes, looking at him like he was empty space, and turned away. Apparently, a member of the Hyuuga clan acted as a radar, but Kenshin was never able to capture the activation of the Byakugan, because hovering near a strategically important place meant attracting unnecessary attention.

Having finished "looking around," Kenshin, in the company of his sons, went to the room, deciding to go to bed early. He spent most of the evening replaying the conversation with Satoru in his head, trying to notice at least some hidden details in his behavior, but he did not notice anything.

The next morning, Kenshin went to the deputy commander of the outpost, and after a short wait, he entered the office.

- Good morning, Setoru-san. – Kenshin greeted politely, continuing to play the role of a polite and harmless guy.

- Hm? Ahhh, Nakayama.... Sit down. – Yamada answered Satoru, and returned to work.

After five minutes, he finally looked up from his papers and looked at the patiently waiting Kenshin.

- One of the mountain settlements sent a request for help in eliminating the breeding lightning wolves. This will become your mission. Your group needs to kill at least six individuals. Here are the coordinates. – Said Satoru, and handed Kenshin a map, with a small mark in pencil.

"Thunderwolves?.." Kenshin said inquiringly, not understanding the complexity of the mission.

- Don't you have people like that? – Satoru asked in surprise, and seeing Kenshin's head shake, he continued: "Thunderwolves are born with a predisposition to the element of lightning, and love to live high in the mountains, absorbing chakra after a lightning strike." Not many of them can use the element, and on average, a qualified Genin can handle one wolf. A group of four Genin is capable of destroying a dozen individuals, so you don't have to worry about that. – Showing friendliness for the first time, Satoru answered.

A few minutes later, Kenshin thoughtfully left the office and, accompanied by his sons, left the building. He was never able to find out anything concrete, with the exception of particularly important information. Satoru assured him that even the weakest Chunin could kill the leader of the thunder wolves, and there was nothing to worry about.

The first thing he did was go to the diner, and while everyone was having breakfast, he thought about his plan of action. He had heard before that there were animals capable of producing chakra, thereby becoming physically stronger and faster, but he had absolutely no idea how to fight them.

Kenshin mentally told his sons the details of the mission, wanting to hear their opinion.

"If these wolves are not stronger than Genin, then we can handle them without any problems. Besides, we have formation protection," Ichiro said mentally.

"Yes, father, these wolves are just stupid animals, and facing them should be much easier than fighting shinobi. This is a great chance to practice!" - Said the Third.

"Uh-huh, these wolves won't be able to touch us if the elder and I activate the sharingan. There won't be any extra people nearby. This is a great opportunity!" - Supported the brothers Fourth.

Kenshin smiled contentedly. At that moment he wanted to pat their hair, but he restrained himself in case there were any extra eyes nearby. He was pleased with how thoughtful his sons had grown and wanted to share this with Aya and Natsumi.

- Okay, let's eat, we have a long way ahead. "Kenshin said with a smile and pulled a plate of ramen towards him.
