Capítulo 2: Chapter 2: Han Sheng

The jaw that he had pinched still throbbed with pain, Liang Shu murmured almost softly, "They say she was a woman you greatly valued. Is it really of no consequence that she died like that?"

A smile played at the corner of the man's lips, the lamplight sculpting his features into something akin to a deity, contrasting starkly with the darkness outside.

"You being at the mercy of two friends in the black market, with severed limbs and heads rolling, does it really not matter to you? Why worry about me?"

Liang Shu clenched her fingers forcefully, nails almost sinking into the flesh of her palm.

With a wry smile tugging at his lips, he said, "Outsiders say: Gu Hansheng of the Gu family keeps a low profile, but he smiles at everyone he meets..."

He reached out and gently patted the woman's icy cheek, chuckling softly, "Everyone..."

Gu Hansheng mulled over these words, bending down, his fingers curling as he pinched her somewhat fleshless cheek lightly, his voice barely audible, "So, Miss Liang, if you shed some blood, you'll get half a million. Still greedy?"

She struggled to force a smile, her eyes turning into two crescent moons.

That face, transitioning almost seamlessly from icy elegance to purity.

"Give me a million, and you can use as much of my blood to save as many people as you want."

...

It was much, much later that Gu Hansheng realized, his agreement at the time was not just because she casually let him draw blood, but simply because of her, and her alone.

Gu Hansheng stood with his hands behind his back in front of the French windows, the light elongating his figure, giving him an air of aloofness.

Inside the room, the incessant drip of medical instruments could be heard.

Yet the line representing the vital signs of life still showed minimal fluctuation.

He asked, "Still not enough blood, is it?"

The doctor in the white coat nodded nervously, "Yes..."

The man abruptly turned around, his expression changing.

The doctor looked at him, his tone three parts helpless, seven parts reluctant, "But the amount she just donated is almost reaching the limit for blood donation."

A bolt of lightning, bright as daylight, streaked across outside, followed by a thunderous roar in the sky in less than two seconds.

The rain seemed to intensify.

"Hasn't it reached yet?"

"Draw more."

...

That night, Liang Shu contributed 400cc, nearly reaching the limit for blood donation.

Little did she expect, in the intervals of rest, a knock suddenly sounded at the door.

Liang Shu sat on the sofa, somewhat dazedly turning her head to look at the opening door as a group of people filed in.

She squinted, extending her arm without even furrowing her brows.

The nurse drawing blood looked at her several times, hesitating.

But Liang Shu just smiled, "Please be gentle. I'm afraid the needle will hurt as much as it did just now."

The nurse smiled gently, "Certainly."

As she watched the bright red blood being drawn from her body, the scene before her blurred slightly, and she raised a hand to support her forehead, frowning slightly.

"If you feel uncomfortable, be sure to tell me promptly. Although we drew a bit more this time, it's still within the range that the human body can accept."

She pressed down on the needle puncture and nodded, "Alright."

The door closed, and Liang Shu slowly closed her eyes.

She had dozed off in the bathtub, and when she woke up, the icy water enveloped her in the tub. As she sat up, she suddenly sneezed several times.

In the mirror, the woman's complexion was several shades paler than before.

She forced a smile, thinking, a million yuan, even if it cost her half her life, let alone just a few hundred cc of panda blood.

All in all, she was profiting.

Early the next morning, she was startled awake by a series of brief knocks on the door.

Upon waking up, the view outside the French window was still hazy, with lights faintly visible in the distance.
