Cerberus pushed against the gate in excitement, trying to get out. Bel took a step back in shock at the sudden action. "Whoa! He is excited," she said, a little breathless.
"Of course he is," Davien replied, lightly shaking his head.
"You should let him out," she said giddily.
"That's a terrible idea. I'd rather not be covered in slobber," he responded. "And it's harder to get him in there than you would think. He occasionally bites his caretaker. Good thing vampires heal fast."
"He doesn't look like a biter," she replied, ruffling Cerberus's ears as she made noises.
"Have you seen his teeth? What in heaven do you think the teeth are for? You know what? How about we test that out? You can start by putting your hand in his mouth."
"See," she said, trying to touch his teeth, but Davien pulled her hand back.
