Capítulo 2: Chapter 2 Green

The gentle rays of morning sunlight filtered through the window, casting a warm glow upon the sterile walls of the hospital room. Rowan stirred from his slumber, his eyelids heavy with the weight of exhaustion as he struggled to orient himself in the unfamiliar surroundings. With a groan, he blinked away the remnants of sleep, his gaze falling upon the figure slumbering in the chair beside his bed. His mother, her face etched with lines of worry and fatigue, "Mom," he tried to say, but his voice came out as a hoarse whisper, his throat feeling like sandpaper as he tried again

"Mom," he finally managed. Stirred from her restless sleep, her puffy eyes betrayed the tears shed in silent vigil over her son's bedside. "Rowan," she whispered, her voice a tender melody in the quietude of the room. Relief flooded Rowan's features as he attempted to speak again, his voice a raspy whisper that barely escaped his parched throat. "Here, let me," Mrs. Adam's murmured softly as she grabbed a cup of water from the table next to his bed and carefully helped her son sit up and drink the cool liquid.

As the water trickled down his throat, easing the dryness that plagued him, "Mom," he croaked, his voice a strained whisper as he sought solace in her comforting embrace. "What happened?" he implored, his hazel eyes starring into hers."I'm not sure, sweetheart," his mother whispered, her arms enveloping him in a gentle embrace. "The doctor had to run some tests," she explained, her voice tinged with sadness as she struggled to find the right words to comfort her son."It will be alright, baby," She said it softly, rubbing her hands on his back as he nuzzled his head into her shoulder.

"Is Lacey fine?" Rowan asked, his voice muffled as he held on to his mother. "Yes, honey, Lacey is fine; she is sleeping at home right now. After the ambulance picked you up, a police officer escorted her home," his mother responded gently. A knock on the door startled them both as it slowly opened , revealing a man in a white lab coat with a stethoscope draped around his neck as he walked in. A small smile crossed his lips. Rowan glanced up as the doctor greeted him with a soft hello. "How are you feeling, young man?" he asked softly as he took a look at the monitors.

"Honestly, I feel fine," he replied, a hint of confusion in his voice. "Your vitals seem stable, and everything seems to be in order.

I was hoping you could tell me a few things about what was happening to you when you collapsed." The doctor pressed his smile, dropping and turning in a concerned frown. "You see, none of the tests came back with anything." As the doctor spoke, Mrs. Adams seemed to be even more worried than she was before. "Well, to be honest with you, I don't know what happened. I remember being in the park with Lacey and I was reading. I felt a chill from the wind, then my chest just started hurting so bad to the point where I couldn't breathe." Rowan paused to take a sip of his water, "then I woke up here."

As Rowan finished his explanation, the doctor gave a nod of understanding. "I would like to keep you for observation for a day or two just to make sure it doesn't happen again," he explained, flashing a smile before exiting the room.

Rowan sat on his bed watching TV by himself, his parents having gone home for the night to get a proper rest. He yawned, his eyes feeling heavy. Before he knew it, he was falling asleep to the sound of the TV playing in the background as his body relaxed and the tension left his muscles. When it all became quite quiet, the TV suddenly turned off.

His eyes snapped open to darkness, and he looked around his room, only to land on a mysterious figure cast in shadow. Confusion knitted his brow as he rubbed his eyes, half-expecting the enigmatic presence to dissipate like a wisp of smoke. Yet the figure remained steadfast, her form shrouded in darkness as she stepped closer, her movements fluid and purposeful. Before he could voice his inquiry, a soft hand pressed against his mouth, stifling his words with gentle insistence. A hushed whisper brushed against his ear, sending a shiver down his spine as the woman's voice filled the room with its quiet intensity. "I'm here to help you," she murmured, her breath warm against his skin as she leaned in closer, her presence both comforting and unsettling. Rowan's cheeks flushed with embarrassment at the proximity, his pulse quickening with a mixture of fear and curiosity.

He struggles against her grip, but his efforts prove futile as she tightens her hold on him, her grip leaving no room for escape. "Stop struggling. I said I'm here to help you, kid," she said, annoyance in her tone. Rowan ceased his resistance, knowing it was hopeless against someone so strong. He glanced up at her face, his gaze meeting a pair of striking emerald eyes that shone with a mixture of kindness and determination and a hint of playfulness . "You ran into a dark warlock kid; you're lucky to be alive now," the woman stated before a frown marred her face as she felt something wet on the palm of her hand. "Did you just lick my hand? She growled, shaking her head in disbelief as she removed her hand from his mouth.

"It worked, didn't it?" Rowan grinned sheepishly, shrugging his shoulders. With a huff of exasperation, the woman withdrew from the boy, folding her arms across her ample chest. Her dark black hair fell over her shoulders in waves, framing her fierce features. "So a dark warlock, huh?" Rowan queried, his voice laced with humor and sarcasm. "Did you escape the psych ward?" His lips curled into a teasing grin.

As he spoke, his gaze flickered over her appearance. "Ha, I might be crazy, but I'm not insane," she retorted, a smirk upon her ruby-red lips. "I have been tracking him for a while, and I followed his scent here to you," she informed, her voice filled with concern wandering to the open window and her eyes searching the city. "I'm surprised he hasn't come back for you yet. He normally doesn't let his victims live," she mused, her expression betraying a hint of puzzlement. With a sigh of resignation, the woman returned her attention to Rowan, her gaze settling on his bewildered expression. She moved her way back over to the bed, taking a seat in the chair next to him and running her fingers through her long locks of hair. " I'm Selena; what is your name?" she inquired, tilting her head slightly to the side. "My name is Rowan," he answered, still skeptical about the truthfulness of her claims.

"Rowan, hmmmm," she hummed. The sound was soft and calming. "I like that name," she added, smiling at the young man before her. "Thanks," Rowan mumbled shyly, averting his gaze in an attempt to conceal the blush creeping along his cheeks. Silence lingered between them until Selena decided to break it once again. "Well, Rowan, I'll be here keeping watch; don't be afraid." As Selena spoke, she moved to the window once again with one final look at Rowan, who seemed to be growing tired again. "Be a good bait, will you?" she teased before leaping out of the window and disappearing into the night. Rowan's eyes grew wide as he scrambled to peer out of the window, only to be met by a vast expanse of night.

Her playful parting words echoing in his mind as he sank into the cushions of his bed, his eyelids fluttering shut as exhaustion took its toll on his body. "Just a dream," he thinks to himself before sleep claims his weary mind.
