Capítulo 39: An Ominous Dinner

(Carter POV)

"See you later, Will," Mark says as he gets on the bus while I do the same and sit down.

But instead of Mark taking another seat on the bus, he sits right next to me and simply asks, "Hey, there's something up; you've been acting weird all day."

Looking him in the eyes, I sigh and explain while pulling closer to his ears. " Well, Mark, I think my powers have activated, and it's a bit overwhelming, to say the least."

Mark's eyes widened in surprise as he looked around to ensure no one was listening to our conversation. As he turns back to me, he asks hushedly, "Really, you unlock your powers?! That's sick! Did it happen this morning? That's why you were so out of it?"

Giving him a nod, he sits back in each seat as he smiles to himself, to which I ask, " You're not feeling mad or feeling bummed?"

" Why would I be feeling bummed? This is great! That means I'm going to get my powers soon, too."  With a sigh of relief, I sat back in the chair on the bus.

" By the way, Mark, when does your shift start at the Burger Mart?"  Mark then takes out a small agenda he has on him and looks it over.

" It seems like I'm working a later shift, around 4:30 to 9:00, man. That means I'm gonna miss dinner," Mark says while grading in annoyance and with a slight chuckle I watched Mark put his agenda back in his bag while I continue to practice my telekinesis.

"Don't worry about that, Mark. Mom's got a late shift tonight, and I assume so does dad, so you're probably not gonna be missing dinner." Mark then nodded with a smile, and  I could see he was still excited about gaining his powers soon enough.

Right now, I'm concentrating on moving objects across the entire city. I feel like I could go so much further, but the prospect is almost terrifying. I could rearrange the entire state if I wanted to.

Mark then hooked up his phone and headset as he listened to his music while I took out a small grip test and tried to keep myself from crushing it. While I simultaneously use my enhanced vision to look over my cells without sounding too vain, it's almost beautiful to watch as I can physically see them strengthening themselves over time, but that they are trying to replace my human DNA.

It's incredibly slow, barely a percent of a percentage with every passing second, but it is there. This may be something I have to look into for future study, and it actually has me excited as well. I was able to study a lot of Megamind technology in the previous world, but there weren't many esoteric forces to do so.

But in this world, there's not only technology but magic monsters and gods. Even the last one may not actually be true, but with alternate dimensions being a thing, the possibility of divinity existing in this world is definitely high.

Speaking of alternate dimensions, I hold out my index finger to my left side. As I do so, a small green portal forms at the tip of my finger. As I lift up the portal to my eye while making sure that Mark and anyone else can't see it, I look through it and see something entirely different, as if the entire earth had been reduced to a world-spanning desert. However, not wanting to risk anything, I close the portal immediately.

While I can only create portals, maybe the size of my hand, eventually, I'll be able to transport myself and anyone near me to alternate dimensions. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be working well with my already present teleportation abilities, but there is the possibility I could eventually combine the two to teleport anywhere.

Honestly, I haven't felt this excited in a long time, although the prospect of having to play hero does bring some doubt into my mind.  But before I could ponder this further, we reached our stop, and after alerting Mark to that fact, we both got up and left the bus.

Mark then heads inside and heads upstairs to grab his outfit for work while I check to see if Mom and Dad were still here. After checking the entire house as well as the surrounding miles with my telekinetic senses, I went up to my room and shut the shades port to my warehouse. After closing the portal, I walked into the warehouse and saw my tech jacket suit.

It's a copy of the original, but as I reached my hand out to it, it slowly turned into some metallic sludge and began forming itself over me. While I would feel nervous about anything else, I know that this isn't some type of Symbiot for me; I can feel the mental connection with the suit.

" Tech jacket, scan my current vitals."

[Understood, sir. All vitals are within acceptable levels. Suit connection established. Shall I enter civilian mode?]

Wondering what that means, I give it a mental nod, to which the suit then turns back into its metallic sludge form and forms itself into a watch along my right arm.

I can still feel the mental connection within my mind, and after nodding in satisfaction, I head over to the terminal that I had set up while in the world of Megamind. After accessing it using my various passwords and other security measures, I found that a lot of data had been added to its memory bank, which I assume is the Viltrum Database.

Just skimming over all of the data shows entire terabytes of medical, technological, and various other weaponry-related data. Even with my enhanced intellect, it would take years to get through all of this. That is unless I make something else to do the work for me.

I believe it's time for Project Silicone to begin in earnest.

But before I could continue with the plan, I needed to review specific parts of this data, as any other information helps, especially when creating something this advanced.

(Third Person POV)

While Carter is busy developing something to help in his study of the alien database, Mark has already arrived at his job and is in the middle of taking out the trash.

As the back door to the burger mart is slammed open, Mark, dragging two heavy garbage bags, opens the dumpster near the restaurant. After grunting due to the pain in his arms from dragging these heavy garbage bags, he tosses one into the dumpster. After taking a small breath, he goes to toss the other one into the dumpster, but instead of landing in its intended target, it immediately flies into the sky, with Mark simply watching it fly away.

But instead of being shocked, Mark simply smiles and says, "It's about time."

But after watching the garbage bag fly into what appears to be the opera atmosphere, he suddenly realizes that it may actually land on someone. After thinking about it for a moment, Mart walked back into the burger, thinking that nothing big would come from it.

(A Few Hours Later)

Carter, who had walked out of his warehouse, headed downstairs after hearing his mom and dad had returned home.

As he heads downstairs to the table, he turns to the door and finds that Mark has arrived from his shift.

Debbie simply says to Mark, " Mark, hop in the shower; you smell like used condiments."  Mark, looking to respond, sees his father and nods before heading upstairs.

(Carter POV)

"So Carter, how was school?" Debbie asks as I sit down at the table.

"It was nothing special, but what happened this morning is definitely interesting, to say the least."  Nolan and Debbie look confused, and as I look at Omni, Man, chills almost go down my spine. I could tell, just by looking at him, that he could tear me apart in seconds.

Stowing away the feeling, I simply said, "Well, it seems my powers finally came in. That's why I took so long getting ready this morning."

Debbie's fork then falls to the table, and Nolan, who has been silent this whole time, simply asks, "Are you sure?"

The question lacked care or emotion; it was just ominous curiosity.

Without looking away, I simply replied, " Yes, I do believe so, and I believe Mark is the same."

As I say this, Mark comes downstairs, practically bouncing with excitement, while leaving small dents on the stairs.

"Mark, did you get your powers?" Debbie asks as Mark nods practically at light speed while Nolan stares us down with an unreadable expression.

Soon enough, Debbie notices how silent Nolan is, and I can see through my X-ray vision that she kicks him in the leg, which I assume hurts more for herself than for Nolan. "Well, that's great.  We can start training tomorrow if your boys are up for it."

Mark starts nodding ecstatically while I ask Nolan, "So, Dad, how was work?"

" Nothing too special; Just dealing with dumber and dumber trying to get into the White House and deal with the dragon in Hong Kong, but it turns out it was just a mechanical creation." The man says this without even breathing, as if it were a typical Tuesday for this guy.

"Have you ever fought a real dragon, Dad?"  Nolan ponders and nods while eating his food, as I assume he either fought something magical or an alien species resembling a dragon.

The dinner then remained silent, but I could tell that Nolan's mind was working at near-light speeds as I could almost hear the man's thoughts.

For me, however,  all I could think about was the fact that if I didn't want to end up as a paste, I was going to have to let this man kill his entire superhero group because while I could possibly send them all to another dimension. I would need to develop my portals, and somehow get to them before my father does, but based on the timeline, he's going to be doing that tomorrow.

Even if I used my tech jacket, I would barely be able to stand up to the guys as I am now, and if he could see that it's me, I don't think he would be as merciful as he was with Mark.

That concession hurts a lot more than I thought it would.

(I apologize if my main character seems very flat to say the least as I'm still trying to develop personality traits form, and to be honest, he himself is still trying to get out of his antisocial shell.)
