Seraphina hugged Linden's waist, sniffling and hiccuping from crying too hard. Linden could only hold her back with one hand while cooking with the other.
He made millet porridge with yam and red dates, grains he usually didn't eat. This was to nourish her spleen and stomach as part of her "dietary therapy."
Linden had learned a principle from her ethnic group's traditional Chinese medicine: worrying too much harms the spleen and stomach. It made sense to him. She must have been bullied by those bad people outside, leading to her poor appetite.
Linden also made some light side dishes. When the meal was ready, he served them both a bowl. Linden held Seraphina and fed her porridge with a spoon. Seraphina's big eyes were swollen like two red peaches, and her eyelashes were wet with tears. Linden looked at her and felt incredibly soft-hearted.
