Capítulo 26: Chapter 26: The Breaking Cocoon

Aiden's mind raced. He needed to escape, and now was his only chance. He didn't believe they would leave him alive after their purpose was fulfilled. He would be a fool to believe in them and beside, he sensed a storm brewing within the cocoon.

He took a cautious step backward, his eyes flicking between the hunters and the throbbing cocoon. They were too absorbed in their ritual to notice his subtle movement.

Suddenly, the cocoon erupted in a frenzy of movement, the once smooth surface rippling and contorting. Mysterious symbols began to glow and dance across its surface, their eerie light casting an otherworldly aura over the entire clearing. The air grew thick and oppressive, each breath a labored effort.

Aiden ignored the discomfort, his focus solely on escape. He took another step backward, but as he reached the boundary, an unseen force shoved him back. It was as if an invisible wall enclosed the formation, resisting his every attempt to flee.

He pressed against the invisible barrier with all his strength, but the force absorbed his efforts, leaving him exhausted and gasping.

"Shit! This formation has some kind of unseen energy blocking me," Aiden's voice barely audible above the growing intensity of the cocoon's vibrations. The cocoon was beginning to crack, the pressure building to a breaking point. The creature inside was fighting to break free, and Aiden could sense its growing fury.

Aiden had tried everything to escape, but all attempts had been in vain. He didn't understand whether the barrier was physical or an energy field.

He knew the monster inside the cocoon might soon burst out. If it did, it would likely target the first thing it saw, and that might be him.

Aiden looked towards the two hunters.

They were struggling to control the cocoon. He couldn't tell if they'd noticed his attempt to slip away, but he knew better than to assume they hadn't. With their extraordinary senses, they must have been aware of his every move, even as they focused their powers on containing the monstrous entity within the cocoon.

It would be naive to think they didn't realize what he was trying to do. They had to know that escaping the formation was nearly impossible. Their eyes, sharp and unyielding, flicked toward him, silently ordering him to use the Melboorne Rock they had given him—the only thing capable of stopping the creature inside from breaking free.

Aiden's mind raced. If he didn't act now, any chance of escape would slip through his fingers. The hunters might even kill him once they no longer needed his help. But if he refused to act, the creature inside the cocoon would surely tear him apart.

A deep, primal rage surged within him, a loathing of being controlled, of having his fate dictated by others. It was a fury rooted deep in his bloodline, beyond his understanding, but impossible to ignore. He couldn't die here, not in this foreign world.

Aiden made up his decision as he sprinted toward the cocoon, the red stone in his hand pulsing wildly, almost alive with energy.

He thrust it against the cocoon's surface, forcing it to make contact. Instantly, the once-resistant cocoon began to yield slightly, its fierce struggle waning but not stopping entirely.

Despite the cocoon's weakened resistance, it still fought against the combined power of the two hunters and the force of the Melboorne Rock.

Aiden strained, using both hands to keep the stone pressed against the cocoon, his muscles burning with the effort. The oppressive energy that had choked the air around them began to dissipate, but it was still a monumental task to maintain contact.

Krggghh!!

A sharp, inhuman screech pierced the air, the creature inside the cocoon thrashing in a desperate bid to free.

The cocoon's surface was jagged and razor-sharp, cutting into Aiden's hands with every movement. Blood smeared the surface, but he didn't let up. He pushed harder, he can't let this creature come out from the cocoon.

Aiden's eyes locked onto the blood arrow, now almost drained, as the ritual seemed to finally complete. Just a few more minutes, he told himself, and this would all be over.

But then, without warning, the upper part of the cocoon split open with a sickening crack. A long, hideous tube, metallic and sharp, uncoiled from the breach and lashed out. Before Aiden could react, it struck, piercing his skull with brutal precision.

The speed of the attack was beyond anything Aiden could have anticipated. Blood streamed down his face, a crimson mask that made it appear as though he was already dead. But even with the gaping wound, his hands stubbornly continued to press the stone against the cocoon.

Agonizing pain flooded Aiden's senses as his body desperately fought to heal, the wound on his head knitting itself back together with excruciating slowness.

His mind was a storm of chaos, the pain and exhaustion pushing him to the brink of unconsciousness. He could feel the metallic tube throbbing within his skull.

Desperate, Aiden moved the red stone toward the creature's mouth, pressing it with every ounce of strength he had left, hoping to subdue whatever monster was emerging. But his efforts were in vain.

The tube was just one part of the creature—its monstrous mouth, hidden within the cocoon, soon followed.

As soon as the stone made contact with the creature's maw, the upper cocoon shattered, and the beast's jaws clamped down on Aiden's hands with a crushing force.

Aiden felt the creature begin to drain his blood, he could feel the life force seeping out of him as the monster fed his blood.

Aiden struggled to free his hand from its grip, but the beast's strength was overwhelming. In a last-ditch effort, he used his free hand to punch the creature's mouth.

To Aiden's astonishment, as the creature drank his blood, its resistance began to weaken. Within seconds, the once formidable beast lay limp inside the cocoon, seemingly dead, even as the metallic tube remained embedded in Aiden's skull.

Exhausted and barely clinging to consciousness, Aiden turned his gaze to the hunters. They had stopped using their powers, their expressions betraying a twisted satisfaction.

The male hunter's eyes gleamed with excitement.
