Capítulo 65: Kairos

Lila hesitated for the briefest of moments, her heart pounding in her chest. She could feel the eyes of the crowd on her, the pressure to speak the words that would seal her fate.

[flashback]

As the night settled over the Southern Empire, the palace was a sea of silence. Lila sat in her chambers, the glow of a single candle casting flickering shadows across the room. Her heart pounded as she retrieved a folded piece of parchment from the hidden pocket in her gown—the letter she had received from her father, Noah, just days before the wedding.

She unfolded the letter carefully, her eyes scanning the familiar, bold handwriting. The contents of the letter had shaken her to the core when she first read it, and now, as she recalled every word, she felt the weight of the secrets it held.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

My dearest Lila,

I have read your letter and understand the gravity of the path you have chosen. Know that I trust you and will support you in any way I can. The time has come for us to act, for the fate of our family—and perhaps the entire empire—rests on our shoulders.

There is something you must know, something that changes everything. I have found the missing prince of Azro, the rightful heir to the Southern Empire's throne. His name is Kairos, the nephew of Emperor Leon, the son of the emperor's late brother. For years, he has lived in exile, hidden from those who would see him dead to ensure their grip on power.

Kairos is the true heir, Lila, the one who was meant to rule in place of the emperor. His existence is a threat to Mateo and everyone who supports him, including Empress Pauline. If the truth were to come to light, it would undo the very foundations of their rule.

I have made contact with Kairos, and he is willing to reclaim what is rightfully his. But we must be careful, for the dangers are great. The Southern Empire is not what it seems, and the enemies we face are more cunning than we can imagine.

Your marriage to Mateo is both a curse and an opportunity. It places you close to the heart of their power, but it also places you in grave danger. You must tread carefully, Lila. Mateo is not to be underestimated, and neither is his mother, the empress. But if you can find a way to support Kairos and bring him into the light, we may be able to restore justice to the empire.

Remember, Lila, you are not alone in this. I am with you. The time for change is upon us, but it will take every ounce of strength and cunning we possess. Be vigilant, my daughter, and trust in the plan we have laid out. The future of the empire depends on it.

With all my love and faith in you,

Noah

Lila's hands trembled as she refolded the letter, hiding it once again within the folds of her gown. Her mind raced with the implications of her father's words. Kairos, the rightful heir—his existence was the key to everything. But bringing him into the light would not be easy. It would mean risking everything she had, including her life.

She took a deep breath, steeling herself for the challenges ahead. Mateo believed he had won, that she was now bound to him by marriage, but he had no idea of the storm brewing beneath the surface. Lila would play her role, for now, but she knew that the day would come when the truth would be revealed. And when it did, the Southern Empire would never be the same again.

[end of flashback]

Lila stood at the altar, her heart pounding in her chest as she faced the congregation of the Southern Empire's most powerful figures. The grand hall was adorned with opulent decorations—gilded arches, cascading flowers, and shimmering chandeliers casting a golden glow over the gathered nobles. The air was thick with anticipation, and all eyes were on her.

Mateo stood beside her, his hand outstretched, waiting for her to take it. His gaze was intense, almost possessive, as he looked at her, and the words of the vows hung in the air, unanswered. Lila's mind raced, the weight of her father's letter and the secret she harbored pressing down on her like a leaden cloak.

"Lila," Mateo's voice was calm, though there was a hint of impatience beneath the surface. "Everyone is waiting."

She met his gaze, her own eyes betraying none of the turmoil roiling inside her. To the outside world, she was the perfect bride—demure, beautiful, and obedient. But inside, she was a tempest, swirling with the knowledge that this marriage was nothing more than a dangerous game of power and deception.

The High Priest Arkin, who presided over the ceremony, gave her a gentle nod, urging her to speak. The Emperor Leon and Empress Pauline watched from their thrones, their expressions a blend of pride and satisfaction. They believed this union would solidify their power, but they knew nothing of the truth that Lila held close to her heart.

The grand hall of the Northern Empire was a somber place as Emperor Atticus gathered his family and closest advisors. The atmosphere was heavy with the weight of new revelations and the aftermath of recent events. Axel and Theo, now awake and recovering from their near-fatal injuries, were surrounded by the emperor and a small assembly of trusted individuals.

Emperor Atticus, his face lined with worry and frustration, addressed the room with a grave tone. "We have learned the truth about the tragic events that have unfolded."

Theo, still pale and weak, looked at his father with a mixture of concern and anger. Axel, though equally exhausted, had a fire in his eyes, the rage of someone who had been deceived and betrayed.

"It was Mateo," Atticus continued, "who orchestrated the death of your sister, Bianca, and her unborn child. His actions were driven by a twisted desire to consolidate power and erase any potential threats."

The room fell silent as the gravity of the emperor's words sank in. Axel clenched his fists, his mind racing through the memories of Mateo's deceitful behavior. Theo's expression was one of disbelief.

"Mateo convinced everyone that he was deeply in love with Bianca," Atticus said, his voice heavy with sorrow. "But the truth is that it was Kairos, the rightful heir and Bianca's true love, who fathered the child. Mateo, in his obsession with power, sought to eliminate any claimants to the throne that could challenge his ambitions."

Axel's eyes narrowed as he absorbed the new information. He had suspected Mateo's involvement, but the revelation about Kairos and Bianca was a devastating blow. Theo, too, was grappling with the implications of these revelations, his face contorted with a mix of anger and confusion.

"Mateo is infertile," Atticus continued, his voice now laced with bitterness. "The child was never his. It was Kairos who fathered the child with Bianca. Mateo's attempt to claim the throne and rid himself of any rivals led him to commit these heinous acts."

Axel's thoughts were a whirlwind of anger and betrayal. The man he had seen as a rival was, in truth, a monster who had manipulated and destroyed lives to further his own ends. His heart ached for Bianca, his sister who had been caught in the crossfire of Mateo's ambition.

"We must act quickly," Axel said, his voice steady despite the storm of emotions raging within him. "Mateo must be held accountable for his crimes. We cannot allow his treachery to go unpunished."

Atticus nodded solemnly, his eyes reflecting the pain of a father who had lost so much. "We must bring justice for Bianca, my poor child. And we must ensure that Kairos, the true heir, is brought back to take his rightful place."
