The landline phone in the parlor rang out loudly. Daphne had seen Esther use it to talk to her parents, along with granny Emma. Esther and granny Emma weren't at home, they went to the market, to buy some ingredients they needed to use for cooking lunch.

"Hello." Daphne placed the phone on her ear. It was the first time she spoke to Esther's parents on the phone.
