However, the absence of two lower-ranked members caught her attention. In the brutal world, they inhabited, such absences usually signalled one grim truth: those missing in action had likely fallen in battle. 

Unlike someone of Kenzo's stature, these individuals were easily replaceable assets within the organization's hierarchy.

The meeting commenced without even acknowledging their demise but the boss didn't appear in this one as his identity remained hidden even amongst his men.

They understood why he did what he did but they didn't understand why he was calling the meeting.
