Gerard was no doubt a manipulative individual who knew how to get people to do what he wanted without lifting a hand.

The trade to the West would grant them X10 more profit than they were already receiving.

It was the most beneficial move for the Dons and Gerard was glad that he had spoken to Akujin.

Reading his body language, when he suggested that the Oni might still be alive, Akujin's body momentarily tensed up, even if it was just for a second.

Gerard knew he was right about the money but this wasn't a problem because it showed him that Akujin was allied with this man.

The only reason for that to happen was if they had similar goals, there was no other way that the Oni would ally with him otherwise.

There was something that had to bring them together and what better than their mutual dislike for the Dons?

Gerard found it fascinating and wished to see how this would unfold even though he wasn't willing to compromise his agenda.
