Capítulo 7: Play the character!
The mesej on the screen stays frozen as it is waiting for him to snap from shock.
He couldn't believe his eyes,he never thought that it would ever appear in front of his eyes. Not only that, it came with a message.
The translucent screen was floating on air without any support, he try to touch the surfaced, but his hands immediately went past it.
He tried the second time, yet the results were the same.
He stared blankly towards it. Without any warning, he slap himself so hard that he felt dizzy and almost lost balance.
'This... It's not a dream...'
He still can't believe this. After 2 days of getting back in time, why isn't it appeared.
Why now?
He has a lot of questions, but knowing it won't answer him, he quickly shakes his head and tries to focus.
After finally calming himself, his gaze fixed on the message in that translucent mirror.
'What does it mean by Free trial?'
He read a lot of novels to relised the truth by now.
The free trial could be both meaning in his second chance of life or this situation.
He assumed he got kidnapped, but seeing this message, he doubted that what he had in his mind was actually the correct answer.
After all, every novel that involves a system like this means bad news.
First, it could give a lot of benefits but a very troublesome mission that i had to complete, and the second one, if it had personality its would be very annoying.
But between two of them, he actually hope this system doesn't have any personality at all.
He rather had a robotic voice or just a message being sent like this to give a mission and accept the rewards, rather than having an anoying system that also gives the same amount of reward.
After all that had happened to him before, he was not a chatty type of guy.
Although he does admit when reading a novel with this type of system, it was kinda hilarious... until it was him who needed to experience it.
He took a deep breath before exhaling it. He repeatedly does this to calm himself down and start to count until he feels calm.
Then, without further ado, he opened his mouth and asked in a cold tone.
"Elaborate"
Then, as if it had been waiting, the mysterious translucent screen quickly formed another sentence.
[The free trail had ended in order for the host to experience all of it. The host needs to pay accordingly]
Then, without delaying it, it quickly changed again.
[As the condition had been informed before, you would have to be the host of the system and complete all the mission that had been given out by the system until the system said otherwise]
'Until the system said otherwise?' But before he could ask, the screen changed again.
[As the contract conditions had been agreed upon from both parties, after the free trial ended, the hosts are officially under the system.]
[The host is obliged to follow every single mission that had been given out. Every successful mission will be rewarded accordingly, and the same goes for penalties if the host fails to do the mission.]
Without giving a chance for him to interrupt, the screen swiftly changed.
[Upon agreement, the host will be given a second chance to live again]
His eyes widened hearing the words 'second chance '
[Failed to follow the conditions will be resulting, the host went back to the old world]
'But didn't i die?'
As if reading his thoughts, the screen quickly changed again.
[The host will live in an infinite loop with all the memory intact]
His brow furrowed.
'The penalty failure to follow the contract conditions sounds so serious...fu*k this is so fu*king scary!'
His shoulder suddenly feels heavy as if a whole mountain had been thrown at him.
Taking a deep breath and exhaling it. After calming himself down a little, he asked.
"...what skill do i get?" The first thing he asked was skill.
After reading countless fantasy novels while hiding in his small room, he already had a clear explanation about the system.
He isn't confident whether the information he gets from a fantasy genre novel was correct. After all, it is just a fiction that had been created by a human.
Yet he was still hoping that some of the information was a real deal.
The system is a mysterious being. Even after reading hundreds of them, only some of the novel explain the background of the system. While others were just mystery.
Of course, it could be that they didn't know how to explain it, or it such a hassle for them and decided to gaslighting theirs reader and themselves.
Typical speaking, this type of system seems like the type to only appear when giving a mission or receiving reward.
His mood heals a little bit, knowing that he doesn't have to deal with a system that has an annoying personality.
The screen changed.
[Zero unbalanced]
'What?'
His mouth twitch.
Sensing his confusion, the screen quickly explained.
[All the skill and ability that you own will be balanced]
His face darkened.
Of course, having all his abilities balance means he won't be any lacking, but it could also be his disadvantages. He won't be able to increase his skill or any ability.
But in the first place, what kind of mission will he be given.
This ability will lean more towards disadvantages and advantages accordingly, his given mission.
Therefore, the final answer lay on his mission.
"What is my first mission?" he asked nervously.
It didn't give an immediate answer as if it was still contemplated.
Seeing the screen froze for a while made his heart beat faster. He was so nervous that he almost got panicked attacks again.
After a while, the screen finally changed.
[MISSION: Play the characters of Han Yeonggi]
[Reward- Mirror]
[Penalty- failure of the mission]
"Ah?" He was so confused that he blurted it out loudly.
'Han Yeonggi...why does it sound unfamiliar yet familiar at the same time?'
"And it also had the same surname as me..."
He shook his head as it's not important and quickly made himself focus.
The mission itself was so weird that he had to reread it. He couldn't help by thinking the way the system words it.
Instead of asking him to pretend to be someone else,he had to play the character of another person.
If it's asking him to pretend to be that person, he could just do his best to imitate that person personality and taste and even appearance.
But if it asked him to play the characters, he suddenly felt like he was about to perform while acting on the stage with tons of audience.
Just like an actor playing their's characters on a stage to showcase to the audience and tell their's story.
There's not much difference between pretending and playing the characters. Since both had the same meaning.
'But the way the system emphasises it makes me wonder whether it actually had a deeper meaning than just trying to imitate Yonggi characters...'
He had a lot of questions and slowly organised his thoughts before asking.
"I just have to play the characters of Han Yeonggi?"
[That's right]
'I had a strong feeling that the characters might be from a novel or other world'
He was confident that he gets transmigrated into a novel that he might have read a long time ago since he can't possibly remember any characters with the name Han Yeonggi.
Yet he still feels weirdly familiar with the name.
"Is there any mission that I need to do while playing the characters of Han Yeonggi?" He asks curiously.
[The host just needs to complete the mission. Along the way, the system might give a side mission accordingly]
'As I expected'
He was sure that there would be a side mission, he sigh in relief. Knowing some of the knowledge he had was correct.
'I just need to play the characters, it sound challenging, but i think i could do a good job.'
His eyes then quickly shift towards the reward.
"What about the rewards? What was the function?"
Without waiting, the system replied to him, and as he expected, the answer was the same.
[The mirror description could only be given after the host success on the mission]
He had another question that had been lingering in his mind, then he nervously asked.
"...the life that I experienced before... was it just a free trial?"
He already knew the truth, yet for him to immediately accept it was hard. He needs to verify and hear it by himself because deep down, he is afraid his theory was wrong.
If it's indeed correct, just like how he thought, then he could at least see some hope.
He isn't entirely confident in completing the mission smoothly. There are bounds to be up and down along this journey.
But knowing it all too well, he also can't fail to complete the mission that had been given. Since failure in completing the mission will lead to a penalty, shudder him in fear.
[That's right, as both parties had agreed the host will experience the free trail before the mission starts]
"I had been wondering this whole time, but who exactly is both parties?"
'Because it's definitely not me, i don't have any knowledge of this. I don't even remember agreeing with the condition contract'
As if startled by the question, the screen froze again. It took a while for it to recover. Even after a few minutes, it didn't show any sign of answering his question anytime soon.
Then, as if it heard his complaints, the screen finally changed. But instead of a white colour screen, it's turns into a slightly darker colour.
[The host isn't obliged to know]
'But that still means I could ask for it, and even if it's not important, it should still answer my question...unless...'
He realised there's must be something going on, for it to react that way. He didn't prey any further, worrying if he would suddenly trigger something.
For now, the only smart choice he could make is him complying well with the system. Until he had enough clue about the other parties.
