3.19% A Husband For The NANNY / Chapter 10: Don’t Be Stubborn

Capítulo 10: Don’t Be Stubborn

A week later, Grace came down from the cab in front of the huge gates of Brandon Corporation.

The building loomed tall and impressive in the quiet business district of San Francisco.

Her mind was preoccupied with thoughts of how she was going to present her case in the upcoming meeting with the CEO as she paid the fare.

She had barely lifted her long slender legs to head towards the gate when suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she saw a small figure dart past her probably from the gates of the company as there were no residential buildings there.

As she raised her head to confirm what it was, she saw a vehicle approaching and her eyes widened in shock at the imminent danger that awaited the child that was almost at the middle of the road.

Her instinct kicked in and without a moment's hesitation, she lunged forward, her heart pounding in her chest. She reached the child just in time and pullled him back, narrowly missing the vehicle.

She tumbled to the ground by the side of the road with the boy tightly protected under her body.

Breathless and shaken, Grace looked down to see the scared face of the same boy she had helped a few weeks back on the day of her interview at Brandon Corporation.

"Are you okay?" She asked breathlessly but tried to make her voice sound as gentle as she possibly could.

The boy was obviously too scared to utter a word, not that she had ever heard him speak, anyways.

At the sound of hurried footsteps, she glanced up to see a man rushing towards them, panic etched on his face.

Jace skidded to a halt beside them, his eyes wide with shock and then relief when he saw that they were alive. "Are you both okay?" he exclaimed, his voice trembling with emotion.

Grace nodded, her adrenaline still surging. "Yes, we're fine. Just a little shaken up."

She couldn't help but notice that the coldness and intimidating aura he had carried during the interview was completely gone- he looked more humane at the moment.

Jace knelt beside them, his expression filled with gratitude. "Thank you, thank you so much for saving my son," he said, his voice choked with emotion. "I don't know what I would have done if..."

His words trailed off as he reached out to check on his son again, who was still holding tightly to Grace's collar, wide-eyed and trembling.

Grace watched as Jace gathered the boy into his arms, holding him close as if to protect him from the dangers of the world before stretching out his arm to her to help her stand.

Without much thoughts she accepted his hand and tried to stand but felt a sharp pain around her ankle.

"I think I sprained my ankle," she chuckled as she peered down and saw a scrape on her leg where it had brushed against the passing vehicle.

By then a little crowd had gathered and those that saw the scene couldn't stop commenting on Grace's bravery and swift movement when she was saving the child.

"Get the car, immediately. We need to get her to the hospital," Jace ordered his assistant who had also arrived at the scene with Russell.

"Yes, boss," Suresh Pratap Singh bowed and directly pulled out his phone.

"I don't think there's any need for that, but thanks anyway," Grace politely turned down the offer.

"But you are injured," Suresh who had just finished sending a text to the driver, pointed out.

Somehow, he felt bad when he thought of how he had been making things difficult for her these few weeks.

But it was all for the good of everyone if it will make her finally accept to be by Charle's side.

That way everyone can rest assured about him.

"It's just a sprain. I believe I'll be fine after resting for a while," he heard her say but before he would say anything to convince her further, his boss's voice sounded.

"Don't be stubborn, your ankle looks swollen. You need to get it checked and treated in the hospital immediately," Jace scolded, his usual demeanor returning.

"But I'm fine," Grace insisted. It was just a common sprain which she could take care of herself.

What's the need of rushing to the hospital over such a small matter? Besides, she never liked the hospital and only went there when she didn't have a choice.

"Not until the doctor says so. Now stop arguing and get in the car," Jace ordered leaving no room for further arguments.

'So domineering,' Grace muttered under her breath but she still hopped to the car that had pulled up beside them, however reluctantly. "All right, I'll go if you insist."

"I do insist."

Jace passed Charles to his guardian, but as expected the little guy shook his head so much that they were afraid his head would fall off, so they had no choice but to take him along to the hospital.

'I'll just use the opportunity to run a test on him instead of asking his personal doctor to come over to the house,' Jace said to himself.

"Give her a hand, Suresh," he told his assistant.

As Grace settled into the luxurious backseat of the limousine, she was stunned when Jace also stepped into the car after her.

"Are you also coming along?" Grace made no effort to hide the shock from her voice and was instantly stunned into silence by Jace's curt reply.

"Do you have a problem with that?"

Having nothing to say, Grace looked on in silence as Jace ordered the driver to head to the family hospital without further delay.

She tried to adjust her position, but there was no escaping the discomfort she felt with Jace seated directly opposite her.

Jace couldn't help but notice her discomfort, and his brow furrowed with concern, but chose not to say anything.

The silence in the car was broken by Charles who was struggling in his father's arms.

"What is it?" Jace asked gently, bending his head to look at his son and couldn't believe what he saw.
