This is a wonderful story. Why aren't people writing about it ! It doesn't get a 5 because occasionally the translator is in a rush and all the names get mixed up. One of the difficulties when the names are all very similar I suppose, but it can take some re-reading to figure out who they're talking about. Luckily it doesn't happen too often. There's never a dull moment in the story as the children move from childhood to adulthood and our protagonists are "old" grandparents at 40! Lots of political intrigue and guessing games as to who will match with who and who will get their just deserts next. Great read!

so I am seriously wondering how come this book has so few reviews. this is a pretty good translation: there is an occasional his her lapse - but nothing that impedes the flow, there are too many lady Li s and lady Zhao but I reckon that has more to do with the fact that there are fewer surnames in general and the culture uses surnames a lot! Soooooo this story starts with two unrelated people falling into a book. they 'wake' as husband and wife with no cheat, just a hubby who was originally a brilliant scholar in ancient history and artifacts and a shrewd business woman plus some knowledge from the novel. There is no instant anything, no instant love story, no instant cash, no instant fame. just a slow rise to a better life, complicity and respect. There's a lot of cruelty and a lot of scheming in the background but generally (at least so far) none of the people in the family are involved. The story is fun, witty and really likeable. go spend your fps and coins on this feel good story - shoo!!
