CHAPTER FIVE
Shadow had always been second best to his brother, Onyx. Yes, even his coat wasn't as dark as his brothers, his eyes darker and not as bright as that of his always-better brother. Even though they had been born at the same time, somehow, Shadow had been born as, well, a shadow, meant to always follow and boost up his twin brother. He supposed it was Onyxstar now - his brother had probably become the leader of the clan, while he was thrown out after losing it one day and attacking his twin. Shadow frowned, tail swishing in angry circles behind him. Everyone had turned their backs on him when he had needed them the most, so it was time for some well-due payback.
But… why did he feel so guilty? No, he had thanked his savior and politely turned her down. If anyone was going to be disappointed, it would probably be that glowing white cat, not him. So why? Was his heart simply so ecstatic to have someone finally turn to him, instead of turning away, that it was dancing around in his chest and giving him such silly illusions?
Sighing, he walked down the familiar trail to the dump where he lived, on the outskirts of the Thunderclan border. He still didn't have the heart to leave his clan, even when they had technically left him first. No wonder they all chose Onyx, he was a coward through and through.
Finally, his den drifted into view. A ragtag lump of branches he had dragged together to make a semi-den thing. The moss den where he had just been was much better, but it was part of Thunderclan territory, where he shouldn't have been in the first place. He crawled into the den, as the sun finally sank below the horizon, and the moon rose to cry tears into the night.
