 The words continued to ring in Valerie's mind. Ryker had walked her to her room and was standing in front of the door, ready to leave.

She feared she might not see him again if she refused the kiss, being curious to know what he wanted to say but also understood that a kiss was not something she could continue playing with. 

Ryker was in love with her, and she could not feel the same way about him. It would be heartless of her to keep leading him on. "I'm sorry, Ryker, but I can't."

Ryker was disappointed but forced a smile. No wonder the moon goddess told him to make Valerie fall in love with him. It was because she knew how cold Valerie's heart had become. 

Still, Ryker was determined to win her heart in one way or another. It hadn't been long, but with an Alpha wolf, he didn't know how to pursue a woman this way.
