She glanced at Lucien, but she could see he wasn't going to help her. Her only hope lay with Brigantiea, though asking for help from her enemy felt like swallowing broken glass.

'I'm the victim here... Why should I have to beg this inferno dragon?' she thought, bowing her head.

Seeing the village being rebuilt from its recent devastation reminded Avalerry of her own lost kingdom, Malerdor.

If her kingdom were still standing, she was certain she would have been a good leader.

"I despise the inferno dragon for what she did—destroying my people, my kingdom, and killing my parents," Avalerry admitted, her voice trembling.

'Why does she get to be happy while I'm left with nothing?' she thought but held back from saying it aloud.
