But Bastille is different.

It's a very isolated city and is surrounded by a vast desert! Nothing grows in this place except for some inedible thorny plants.

Most of their food is imported from outside.

There are only three sources of food in this place; one is imported food.

Second is the meat obtained from killing monsters that run rampant in the desert and often lay siege to the city.

And lastly, the meat obtained by killing the monsters in the dungeon and clearing its floors.

The city rewards the people who kill monsters in the dungeon and also buys the monster corpses from them at a decently good price.
