7.72% Mated To My Boyfriend’s Dad / Chapter 21: _ Spoilsport

Capítulo 21: _ Spoilsport

I smiled at the boy. "Just grown-up things, Liam," I replied evasively. "Things you don't need to worry about."

However, to my surprise, Liam persisted. "Is it about Kylo? They say at school — They say Gamma Rhett doesn't want you two together."

Oh, Gosh. Even the kids knew now.

My blood turned to ice. "Erm — never mind that, Liam. Gamma Rhett has no choice." I shrugged.

I was expecting Liam to let it go but the little boy asked me yet another question. "Is Kylo not your mate, Megami?"

My blood ran cold. Liam's innocent question about Kylo being my mate was just too much. I couldn't help but be chilled with the realization of how much the children knew.

Of how much everyone knew.

Perhaps, I could ask Liam who told him such.

But before I could delve deeper, Liam looked away, picking up his toothbrush and starting to brush with a seriousness that wasn't there before.

Kids.

I took a deep breath and decided to leave it for now. "Be ready for breakfast soon, champ," I informed him and moved back to the bedroom, intending to talk to him properly later.

However, my phone buzzed. I hurried to the bedside table to pick it up. It was Kylo.

"Babe," his voice boomed through the receiver. I sensed a hint of urgency in his tone. "I think we need to have a of plans concerning the adoption process of Liam. We need to head to the headquarters later this evening unlike how we've planned. Something's happened in the pack."

My stomach clenched at the sound of that. What flew to my mind immediately was that not everything I sensed last night wasn't real.

"Something bad like vampires?" I asked with crossed fingers

"I can't say right now. Just — keep Liam close and watch the news. I'll explain what I know later when I come around."

The line went dead, leaving me with a feeling of unease and a million questions. I dropped the phone and hurried to the living room. I should go see the news.

Cullen's off-key warbling and an unfamiliar pop song blasting from the television were the first things that greeted me. It wasn't unexpected. It was so like Cullen.

"Hey, nail artist," I teased, as I found Cullen sprawled on the couch, engrossed in painting his already shimmering silver nails.

"Hey yourself, drama queen," he retorted, not missing a beat with the brush.

I rolled my eyes. "Why did you send Liam to get me?"

Cullen blinked, the paintbrush poised mid-stroke. "Did I? Maybe it was the faeries messing with my head again," he mused sarcastically.

"Gosh, Cullen. A five-year-old's wiser than you at this point. Imagine disturbing someone's beauty sleep for no reason!" I hissed, picking up the remote from the coffee table.

Cullen came snapping back. "And the pack's soldiers are better than you. At least, they claim to have evidence before accusing people. I never sent Liam to wake you up." He nonchalantly transferred the aggression to the gum in his mouth.

Arguing with Cullen was pointless. You'd be serious and he'd be messing with you all along. Instead, I flicked through the TV channels until the news screen appeared.

"Hey!" Cullen protested, eyes darting between his drying masterpiece and the flickering screen. "I was enjoying that song!"

"News time, C," I said firmly, ignoring his whine. "Kylo said and I quote; Something's happened in the pack."

Cullen sighed dramatically, calling me a "spoilsport," but sat up straight nonetheless. As the local news channel came on, the headline already sent worry lines between my brows.

'Bones of a dead child found in the woods'.

"Another pack of bones?!" Cullen blurted. "Do we have like zombies among us now?"

The news made me so weak that my legs wobbled and I stumbled on the chair. "It's a child this time, Cullen. What zombie is eating these people?"

"That's if there's anything like zombies. It's definitely something else." Cullen reasoned.

The broadcaster continued to read the news.

"Humans, werewolves, and the fey are no longer safe as attacks continue to pile up in different modes. We urge parents to keep their children close and people to walk in groups, especially children."

This was the second time a similar case would pop up. We weren't used to finding bodies eaten down to their bones in the Ravenwood pack. It was either vampire crimes, human crimes, or werewolf crimes.

You'd hardly find fey crimes too.

However, a creature eating people in the pack? That was new.

"Walk in groups? Yeah, Merry Christmas!" Cullen hissed. "I'd cut my nails before walking in groups."

Cullen couldn't be serious right now. I turned to him and sent a pillow thumping on his head. "Don't be stupid, man," I said.

"Why?"

"How about I don't want to see what your bones look like for starters?!"

"I'm so strong, Isleen. You wait and see."

Moron.

"Megami?" Liam's voice came from the direction of my room and I turned to the TV in shock.

Hastily, I put it off. I wouldn't want a child like Liam to see such graphics. He hadn't seen that and he was already harboring spites for the fey. Should he see this, he might as well say that they were all infected with a zombie virus.

Kids.

"Want to dance, Liam?" Cullen's voice gingerly let out and the boy ran to him with excitement.

"No, no. Let's play video games!"

Now, Liam seemed more like the twelve years old that he was. Not that sensible-looking boy asking me questions in the bathroom. Geez, I almost grew suspicious.

"Video games, alright. But I warn you, 'imma whoop your ass!" Cullen's voice sent my thoughts to a marathon as he said to Liam.

I shook my head, wondering if there was any difference between Cullen and Liam's IQ at all. I disappeared into the kitchen to prepare breakfast but everything I touched seemed to want to smell of one man.

Worse, I'd see him later this evening. Was my heart even ready for that at all?
