Capítulo 3834: Chapter 2952: When Night Falls (34)

The members of the Justice League were still in the conference room sharing their experiences from the past few months. Aquaman had already finished speaking, as he indeed didn't have much to say; he had mostly stayed in the ocean, and his knowledge about vampires was limited.

Under Batman's guidance, everyone discussed whether or not a vampire could turn members of the Sea Clan into their own kind. Most thought it was possible since the Atlanteans were essentially ancient humans who had simply sunken over time and theoretically could be embraced by vampires.

However, a significant portion of Atlanteans are descendants of the God Clan, and it's uncertain if the residual power within their veins could merge with the vampire's power. Wonder Woman also felt that the gods of Mount Olympus might not be affected by vampires, as it would be difficult to even break their skin, let alone merge powers.

Next up was Green Lantern, who had less to say than Aquaman. He mentioned that he had recently been carrying out tasks in the cosmos and didn't have much understanding of vampires, nor had he encountered any special events.

Most people accepted this reasoning because they remembered that Green Lantern often carried out tasks in the cosmos. Although some were dissatisfied that the Green Lantern Corps didn't intervene in the vampire disaster on Earth, they knew it was not Hal's decision to make, so Green Lantern's part passed without further issue.

Martian Manhunter's situation was similar to Superman's; he had been involved in the Justice League's efforts against the vampire disaster from start to finish, but because he wasn't as strong as Superman, he mostly stayed at headquarters providing information to Superman.

The incidents he experienced mostly overlapped with Superman's. His recounting was mainly to supplement Superman's engagements, but since Superman had executed so many tasks in these months, Martian Manhunter spent several hours reading from the task records.

By noon, everyone continued eating, softly discussing the situation. However, the atmosphere was not as relaxed as before; all agreed they hadn't identified any suspects among the speakers and began to doubt whether Batman could truly find the culprit, as they had already been delayed here for a day and a night.

Members like Cyborg then proceeded to share their experiences, which were quite even in duration, generally around an hour, but as there were many members, by the time everyone was done, it was late night again.

"Let's stay up on watch tonight," Jenna suggested. "Last night we didn't watch for long enough—tonight, perhaps we can extend it."

She nudged Zan with her elbow, and he nodded. Wonder Woman chuckled and said, "You just want to go snack, don't you? Save a bag of plain chips for me; I need something to perk me up."

"Don't worry," Jenna gestured to her.

The two walked over to the corner of the room; Jenna gave Zan a look, but he shook his head. Frowning, Jenna shot him a questioning glance, and he shook his head again.

But Shiller was actually very hungry by now. To be precise, no matter whose soul controlled the body, the hunger from within the blood was persistent, driving one to desperately devour everything around.

Unfortunately, the morbid Shiller was quite accustomed to this sensation, especially since one of them was known as Gluttony.

The morbid identities actually weren't so distinct, with each possessing some traits of the others; for example, most Shillers were strong fighters, deriving from the attribute of violence, and many showed a clear tendency for manipulation, naturally coming from Manipulation.

Similarly, most of the morbid ones felt hunger, so Manipulation was busy manipulating, while Violence craved the release of violence.

The morbid identities shared a peculiar trait: the worse their condition, the better they seemed to fare.

Moonlight Shiller didn't care about the ant-bite-like hunger at all, even wishing it was stronger because he knew someone else in the room felt the same.

The other person might also endure due to a strong will, but such hunger wouldn't enhance his strength, while for Moonlight Shiller, it was different—when hunger peaked, he grew unprecedentedly powerful.

In other words, I am waiting for Blood Rage, what are you waiting for?

Shiller casually grabbed another bag of chips. This time, the crunching sounds were slightly quieter, and the frequency wasn't as rapid, seemingly only out of boredom.

However, soon an unexpected figure appeared. Green Lantern sat down, picked up another bag of chips, opened it, and tossed a handful into his mouth.

Shiller glanced at him and shifted to the side, making room and handing him a Coke. The other man ate the chips quickly, finishing the bag in a few quick bites.

Shiller took several sandwiches from the side and, in Zan's voice, said, "I noticed you didn't eat much during the day. Are you starved?"

"I'm just feeling a bit worried," Green Lantern replied while eating, "Batman has us trapped in here, and who knows how many people are dying outside."

"Yeah, that betrayer is despicable," Jenna said, swinging her fist. "If it weren't for him, we wouldn't be locked up here. Speaking of which, who do you think is the most suspicious?"

"I don't know," said Green Lantern as he ate. "I think Batman might already know but just isn't saying."

"Hey, brother, is that a can of fruit there?" Jenna raised her voice slightly. "Hand it to me."

Shiller picked up the can next to him, and then saw Jenna winking at him, immediately understanding her intention, he glanced at the can and tossed it to Jenna.

The can was the type without a pull tab.

Cans in Europe and America are a bit odd, as they pursue airtightness over convenience. It seems that having a pull tab might compromise the seal, so many cans here are made as tightly sealed tins, and many households have can openers on hand.

A can opener actually cuts along one side of the can, then rolls up the metal lid.

And sure enough, Batman had prepared a can opener, but Jenna seemed to have little experience with such a device; after all, she was just a little girl, an alien, and not a housewife who frequently deals with canned food.

She struggled to insert the blade into the can, fiddling with it until she finally managed to cut it open, but it seemed that she hadn't fixed the can opener properly, and with a snap, it popped out, the half-rolled tin lid springing back and slicing Jenna's hand open.

She let out a scream that woke everyone up, and the groggy Superman instantly turned into a light bulb, his eyes glowing red as he asked, "What happened? Who's been attacked?"

With a dismal face, Jenna said, "No one attacked me, I just cut my hand opening a can. Do you guys have a bandage?"

The others gathered around, looking at the wound and speechless. Wonder Woman rubbed her forehead and said, "This is a fruit can for cooking, not a snack can. Why did you have to open it?"

"I didn't know," Jenna said plaintively. "You all know I love sweets, but there's no cake or anything, so I thought I'd make do with this. That can opener is really too hard to use..."

Batman was a bit speechless, but when he walked over to Jenna and picked up the blood-stained opener, he realized Jenna had done it on purpose.

The can opener actually isn't that dangerous; the so-called blade isn't sharp, and there's a decent distance before it could cut human skin. What's dangerous is the tin lid of the opened can.

But generally, unless one intentionally put their hand closer, they wouldn't get cut. Given the dim light, Jenna probably deliberately cut her own hand.

She must have figured that the vampire hiding among them was about to lose control, and deliberately made a bleeding wound to lure the other into frenzy.

What a clever girl, Batman thought. If any of them had done it, it would have seemed foolish and deliberate, but since Jenna was young and an alien with a capricious personality, no one would suspect anything and would just feel a bit fed up.

Fortunately, Batman had also prepared a first aid kit. Jenna's hand wound wasn't serious enough to need stitching. Wonder Woman used magic to stop the bleeding and cleaned the wound, but just as she was about to bandage it, Zan anxiously said, "This is healing too slowly, can't you use healing magic to help her?"

Wonder Woman shook her head and said, "I am a demigod, not a magician. I don't know healing magic. It's something that is generally only known by priests who practice Divine Beast magic."

Zan scanned the crowd, then like seeing a savior, he went over and pulled the Green Lantern next to him and said, "Green lantern energy can heal wounds, right? Hal, please help Jenna, or she might not be able to use her hand for a while."

Jenna's wound was cleverly inflicted, a vertical slice in the part that curled when the palm was clenched, which meant that she essentially couldn't clench her hand, rendering it nearly useless, the kind of injury that wasn't serious but impeded movement.

Jenna pushed Zan away, then said, "There's no need to waste energy, I think I can also... "

Her hand clenched slightly, and what had been a bloodless wound started gushing blood again. She gasped sharply, dismayed, "It seems there's really no way, you think if I turn into an animal and then back again it might be better?"

Shiller remembered that the Magic Twins had superpowers, but he wasn't clear on the specifics. It appeared the sister could transform into animals, but what about the brother? Now wasn't the time to ponder this.

Wonder Woman quickly told Jenna not to move, gently wiped the blood for her, while Superman frowned at the bleeding wound, and said to Hal, "Help her out, Hal, it shouldn't take too much energy, right? Hal... Hal? Are you too sleepy?"

The half-awakened Hal nodded, yawned, and said, "I didn't sleep well last night. I was just about to sleep, then I felt hungry, got up to eat something, and now I'm groggy."

After saying that, he snapped his fingers, and green light enveloped Jenna's palm, quickly healing the wound. Jenna immediately expressed her gratitude, "Thank you so much, Hal! You're the best!"

She gave Hal a big hug, and Hal seemed caught off-guard and didn't dodge. As Jenna touched him, the green lantern energy didn't have time to separate them.

After letting go, Jenna's expression became fearful, and she darted behind Superman, pointing at Hal and saying.

"He... he… he doesn't have a body temperature!!!"

Everyone was stunned.
