Then he chuckled, "Pfft.. that's a nice offer"
He showed him a devious grin.
Mr. Song and Lee Joohee's face turned pale.
'I..I see... anyone would choose a B-rank assassin as his loyal dog over a crippled C-ranker like me.. '
Mr. Song looked at Joohee, 'But what about Miss Joohee..? Maybe because he has sensed her fearful nature as a liability, and since she will become a witness.... No, if that's the case, and if things turn out for the worst.. I will try to buy some time for her..'
Mr. Song's expression hardened with resolve, his eyes narrowing looking at Azaroth's back. Lee Joohee shivered, her anxiety deepening.
Azaroth's eyes, though stern, held a certain curiosity.
The assassin, sensing a glimmer of hope, pleaded, "I can be of use to you. Spare me, and I'll help you with whatever you want."
This time, they were hoping and praying for this new S-ranker to be a good person.
Soon, Azaroth spoke, "Despicable," he remarked, "How could you plan such things? Does a person's life have no significance in your eyes"
(A/N: All hail the righteous young master! LOL)
The assassin's crazed eyes dropped, what the hell was this person in front of him saying now?
As for why Azaroth was doing all this instead of just killing him?
Because he had appeared at a bad time.
The ideal situation should have been the one where the assassin would try to kill and fight them and then at the neck of time, Azaroth would have come and saved them.
But if he were to wait, Lee Joohee would have died from the first attack, so he had to intervene.
Mr. Song and Lee Joohee haven't even seen the bodies of their comrades.
And like in every story involving 'good characters,' if Azaroth just kills this assassin, there is a chance for his image to turn for the worst.
Azaroth's gaze remained unyielding. "I have never taken a life unnecessarily," he said, "So, I'll give you a chance."
The assassin's face slightly lit up.
Maybe this Azaroth was a gullible kid..?
But Azaroth's next words were—
"Let's see what you've done with the other hunters. If they are unharmed, I will hand you over to the Association, and you might live to see another day. But if you've harmed them...."
Azaroth didn't finish his sentence.
Hearing Azaroth's sentence, Mr. Song and Lee Joohee were reminded about Mr. Kim and Mr. Seok's previous screams.
The assassin, nodding at the chance to escape punishment, was already scheming ways to avoid the consequences of his actions.
Azaroth, maintaining his stern demeanor, led the way through the narrow gap in the tunnel towards the third tunnel.
Mr. Song and Lee Joohee followed, their apprehension growing with each step.
The lifeless bodies of the three prisoners lay sprawled on the ground, their faces frozen in eternal agony. Mr. Hok, one of their companions, was also among the fallen, his body lying motionless. The sight sent a shiver down their spines.
Their attention turned to Mr. Kim, who clung to life but was clearly in critical condition.
"M-Mr. Kim! Let me help," Joohee exclaimed as she quickly knelt down to heal him. He was the only survivor among them, so she had to do everything in her power to save him. His body bore numerous wounds, and his labored breaths showed just how much he was struggling to stay alive. Horror filled Joohee's widened eyes while anger and sorrow clouded Mr. Song's face.
Now seeing everyone focused on Mr. Kim
In an instant, the assassin activated his camouflage skill, blending seamlessly into the shadows and becoming virtually invisible.
Swiftly, the assassin reappeared, yanking Lee Joohee to the side, his dagger pressed threateningly against her neck.
A gasp escaped Joohee as she felt the cold metal against her skin, her eyes wide with fear. Mr. Song's fists clenched in frustration, his expression a mix of anger and concern.
'Keke, now the situation is somewhat ideal for me to work with' Azaroth thought and there was a slight smile on his face which no one noticed.
The assassin, now using Joohee as a shield, sneered, "Back off and let me go or she dies right here, right now. This is your last chance, S-rank."
"P…Please.. L..Let me heal Mr. Kim.. h.. he will die.."
Lee Joohee pleaded.
"Shut the fuck up bitch!" The assassin shouted.
"Well, well, well. First killing all these people..." Azaroth spoke slowly," Then threatening the lady," Azaroth took a step toward him.
"Hey! Are you a fucking psycho..? I said let me go or she dies!" The assassin took two steps back dragging Joohee from her back.
"M..Mr. Azaroth, what should we do.." Asked Mr. Song in a low, regretful voice.
"*Scoff* You.. you are more stupider than you look" Azaroth didn't answer Mr. Song and said to Kang (assassin).
"Let's say that you killed her, what happens after that?" Azaroth asked with a curious tone, Azaroth tilted his head, "What happens is that I will give you pain, a lot of it, till you beg me for the mercy of death. But rest assured, I don't show mercy to the ones who cross me"
As soon as he said that, the temperature of the tunnel rose and an oppressing aura started to suffocate everyone present.
Startled, the assassin tightened his grip on Joohee, only to find the invisible barrier preventing any further movement.
Azaroth had already hidden some nanobots on her body when he had first saved her.
He just now gave a mental command and now the assassin was unable to touch Joohee.
"Wa.. what kind of magic is this?"
Kang Taimin was bamboozled.
Azaroth just grinned and then lifted a finger,
"Cursed technique: Reversal Red~"
*Shoot**boom*
♣♣♣
[1 hour before, in front of the Daesung Tower]
Sung Jin Woo emerged from the portal into the daylight, satisfied with his victory over Cerberus. Though his body showed no signs of injury or fatigue, mentally he was drained.
The three-headed hound had proven a formidable foe, pushing Jin Woo's abilities to their limit in the drawn-out battle.
"Huh? I think I need a shower..."
Glancing at the sun high in the sky, Jin Woo was surprised to see it was now noon - he had spent the entire night in the instance dungeon.
While his stats and skills had leveled up significantly, mental rest was clearly needed.
As Jin Woo made his way to the metro station, he finally checked his phone. His eyes widened seeing a notification from over 24 hours ago.
The message read: "2nd Squad is launching an A-rank dungeon raid tomorrow at noon, S-rank hunter Azaroth will lead."
"Mr. Azaroth is leading..." He said in a low tone, remembering the past memories.
After reading the message, Jin Woo logged onto the Hunter's Guild app.
In the 2nd squad poter section, he was surprised to see an open spot still available for the A-rank raid.
While a low-ranked poter wasn't mandatory, the opportunity to run an A-rank under Azaroth was too good to pass up. Even in his exhausted state, Jin Woo knew resting could wait.
He didn't know that the spot was empty because of Azaroth's request.
Jin Woo confirmed his attendance, then checked the timer - two hours remained until portal departure.
"I might be able to see him in action again!"
Jinwoo said like a fan boy.

In front of the Hunters Guild.
Dozens of elite hunters milled outside, dressed head to toe in exquisite armor, brandishing an array of powerful weapons.
Greatswords, ornate staves, and magical artifacts glittered in the sunlight as hunters calibrated their equipment.
"What do you think, Got it just yesterday" One of the hunters showed his new shield to the others.
"Umm, although it looks good, shouldn't you've gotten a red one to match your armor?" Another asked.
"Puhaha, Oi, Taimin, did you forget that he is colorblind?" Gina said laughing.
"Taimin is new Gina, and don't make fun of your teammates," Lee Yum said and patted the back of the tanker.
"Tsk* shut up Lee" Said Gina whit a scawl.
"Ya ya.."
Powerful fighters adorned in armor polished weapons and adjusted magical items. It looked like they were heading out for a dungeon raid.
Jin Woo arrived in front of the Hunters Guild.
Jin Woo watched in awe while walking toward the gates, feeling insignificant in his basic clothing.
This was the 2nd Strick Squad of the Hunters Guild.
11 A-Ranks and 6 B-Ranks.
If they had been part of any other Guild in Korea, they wouldn't have been categorized as a second-tier squad.
The Hunters Guild has 2 more strike squads similar to this which usually raids the B-Rank dungeons or some valuable C-rank dungeons.
Jinwoo has mostly gone to the B-ranking dungeons with the 3rd strike squad and has never seen most of the members of this team but he has interacted with some individuals inside the guild building from time to time.
He spotted Miss Gina chatting with some comrades. Her casual grin belied her fearsome prowess as an A-Rank.
"Bahaha, Go easy on the newbie. We all start somewhere." The short girl with a bob cut and heavy gauntlets chimed in. (image)
'Nope, not going there'
Sung Jinwoo thought and looked to the side spotting Miss Lee who was kindly reassuring the newcomer tank.
(image of Miss Lee)
Jin Woo smiled looking at Miss Lee, the kind A-rank healer of the 2nd squad.
In the past week when he helped out at the guild, she would often stop to chat with him while getting her morning coffee. Miss Lee had always treated him with kindness.
He saw that she was talking to another man at the time so he didn't bother her and decided to stand at the corner of the building's gate.
As Jin Woo made his way through the groups of hunters towards a corner, a friendly voice called out to him. "Mr. Sung, is that you?"
He turned to see Miss Lee, the kindly A-rank healer, approaching with a smile.
'Oh, she spotted me.' He thought.
"Miss Lee, it's good to see you!" Jin Woo replied brightly.
"So you'll be our potter for our squad's raid today?" she asked. Jin Woo nodded, still catching his breath from hurrying over.
"Sorry I'm a bit late," he said sheepishly. But Miss Lee merely chuckled.
"No matter, as long as you're ready to go, plus our leader hasn't even shown up till now—" She said but was cut off by Jinwoo,
"Eh? Azar— I mean, Mr. Azaroth is not here? Who's going to lead the team then?"
"Ah, don't worry~ Guild Master said that Mr. Azaroth will join us before we leave... Come, let me introduce you to the others."
She led Jin Woo to where a group of hunters were.
A shot girl with glasses in a mage outfit approached Kihoon. "Any word on when Leader Azaroth will arrive?"
(Shorty's image)
"Aha.. I-I don't know"
Kihoon laughed nervously. As a high-potential A-rank, he was slated to lead this 2nd strike squad until news came the renowned S-rank hunter, Azaroth himself would join.
Sigh~
Kihoon didn't mind the change in plans - arguing was pointless against Azaroth's prestige and power. Still, giving up leadership stung his pride.
Nearby, a group of guild members gossiped eagerly like schoolgirls. "I hope Azaroth oppa comes soon, he's so handsome!"
"Yeah, I can't wait to see his handsome face! Kyaa~" another shouted.
"Guild master said that as an S-rank hunter, Azaroth oppa's skills are no match, but looks-wise he's an S-rank for sure," giggled her friend.
Jin Woo smiled inwardly at their excitement. While Kihoon shifted awkwardly, uncertain how to feel about this
*Vroom-Roaar**screech-screech*
Just then, a sleek red Mustang roared up and slid into a stylish stop by the gates.(image)
All eyes turned as the driver's door opened.
Stepping out was their squad leader, the S-Rank hunter Azaroth, clad in a black coat that billowed dramatically in the breeze. His hair was as perfectly coiffed as always.
"Ahh, today's sun is sharp huh?" Azaroth muttered and some dark veins traveled toward his face from under his neck and a pair of sunglasses appeared on his face.
"Much better~," He said.
"Woo, that ability is so cool!"
The assembled hunter girls broke into excited whispers at his arrival. Even Kihoon looked on with begrudging respect.
"Sorry I'm late everyone, had some things to wrap up with the Guild Association," Azaroth said with an effortlessly charming smile.
He exuded confidence and calm authority, entirely befitting his elite ranking. Jin Woo gazed on in awe, heart pounding at being near him yet again.
.
.
.
The scene cut back in time,
Inside the D-rank dungeon....
'Ora ora ora~ Should I use it~ hehe, let's use it~'
Azaroth thought with a happy dancing montage that was playing in his mind.
He had used some gatcha rolls while eating breakfast, although he got some useless stuff like Suguru Geto's comb from JJK and Shizuka Marikawa's white shirt from Highschool of the Dead.
He also got a good gacha roll-
He looked at the exposed face of the Assassin behind Joohee,
Azaroth's lips slightly cured up, he slowly pointed his finger toward the assassin's face and uttered, "Curced technique: Reversal Red"
A very small ball emitting red light, lightning the whole tunnel in red color appeared on his index finger, and in a fraction of a second, it shot toward the assassin and obliterated his forehead.
The assassin's head popped like a watermelon, and blood splashed everywhere.
Good thing that Joohee had some nano-bots on her, which made a force field shield and protected her from the gushing bloody fountain.
'Fuck, that was cool!'
He looked at the mess he made with the gacha gift and the fact that he wasn't even using the reversal red at its full potential made him smile a little.
Azaroth's demeanor changed back to a gentle one as he looked at Joohee.
She was trembling in fear and plopped to the ground, her body still shaking.
Though struggling not to cry in fear, she met his calm gaze and felt at ease.
He walked to her and kneeled in front of her, gently wiping a tear from her cheek in reassurance.
"Are you hurt?" Azaroth asked softly. Joohee shook her head, stunned by his heroism.
His face was so close to hers and he was looking at her with gentleness, she felt slightly embarrassed and looked at the ground, not wanting to meet those enchanting bright blue eyes again.
Nearby, Mr. Song stared in awed gratitude. "Thank you for saving us, Mr. Azaroth, but how did you suddenly appear here?"
Azaroth smiled apologetically.
"To be honest, I was on my way to the Hunters Guild when I noticed this D-rank dungeon nearby," he began.
" I had some time to spare and I hadn't seen inside the D-rank dungeon plus, I heard some passers-by talking about prisoners going inside as hunters, all those things made me curious and I decided to come inside the dungeon"
As Mr. Song replayed the events in his mind, a question arose. Azaroth had appeared as if from thin air to rescue them.
'A camouflage skill or an artifact maybe?'
Recalling the hunter's rank and background, Mr. Song decided not to pry further. Some mysteries were best left untouched.
"Curiosity got the better of me, but I'm glad I came here" Azaroth smiled.
Hearing this reasonable response, Mr. Song's serious frown lifted slightly.
"Well, I'm grateful you intervened when you did," Mr. Song replied with a polite bow.
Gently, Azaroth lifted the still-shaken Joohee into his arms. Mr. Song cradled the barely conscious form of Mr. Kim.
To be continued....
