Sarah's POV:

"What do you mean by saying you will die anyway?" Elma frowned at me. "What did the doctor say you have?"

Jacob explained to them and ended with the statement, "But medical technology has advanced a lot; the doctor was just being..."

"Let it be Jacob; I don't want anyone to give me hope."

What if, after giving me hope, we find out at the end that there is indeed no solution?

"There is hope; I will make some calls right now. You are not allowed to lose hope," Jacob scolded.

"I want to go home," I muttered. I didn't want anyone pitying me.

"Sarah, we are all here." Elma started, and I frowned at her.

"Are you trying to pity me now?"

"I am not."

"You are; I don't want to talk about it. Let no one mention it." 

"We are trying to help and..."

"Remember when you said you didn't want anyone talking about your abuse? We all stayed quiet and never talked about it, so I expect you to respect mine."
