Capítulo 41: Chapter 41: The Copper Coin

On the questions about his previous crimes, he mentioned all that he could remember.

Raven kept an eye on the answers he was writing. As the man finished writing, Raven waited to see if he was going to write more. However he stopped and moved over to the next question.

Seeing him move on to the next question, Raven's fist closed behind his back.

After he had filled everything, he looked at Raven. Through his expressions, he wanted to see if Circe was satisfied since none of the questions were highlighted as lies.

Raven picked up the form. He folded it, keeping it back in his pocket before reaching out his hand. Cain returned the silver pen to Raven.

Raven not only took the pen, but also brought Cain's free hand behind his back, tying it again. Moreover, this time, Cain didn't even try to resist.

Cain had already wholeheartedly believed that the frail looking person before him was none other than Circe. Even if he resisted, it was impossible to free himself. Moreover, he didn't want to offend Circe by spoiling her play.

"Lady Circe, is there anything else I can do for you?" he asked, being extremely respectful.

Raven nodded in response. For him, this was just the beginning. He didn't come this far only to get the form filled. If that was all, he could've gone to the room closest to his and get it done.

He had a special reason for coming to this person specifically. It was also a reason he had selected Merlin's Mansion as his first destination.

Leaving the young man tied, Raven walked toward the window.

From within this room, the beautiful sky outside could be seen. However, it was impossible to break the window through ordinary means. The windows in these rooms were even stronger than the walls.

Raven gazed at the moon that had a little red hue to it tonight, as if it was the bloody moon.

"Brother, look. I received my first income! An entire copper coin!"

Although his mind was filled with millions of years worth of memories from his first life, but still, the memories of his current life had a special place for him.

He could still hear that young and slightly childish voice that was a memory he could never forget.

"Brother, look. I received my first income! An entire copper coin!"

A young girl, only twelve years old, sat next to a young boy who was fifteen or sixteen years old. A beautiful moon was shining high in the sky as the clown struck past twelve.

The little girl proudly flaunted a single copper coin before the young boy as if it was her life's most important achievement. It was the first time she had earned something for herself.

Although she had to work as a servant for an entire month, at the end of it, she had finally received it.

For most people, a single copper coin was worth nothing. It wasn't worth being proud. But seeing the happiness and shine in the girl's eyes, the young boy next to her couldn't help but smile. He felt happy when she was happy.

In his life, he had lived in the grandest of Palace in Ashborn Duchy. He had all the money he could ever need, yet it was all useless for him. That money never brought him happiness. As for what brought him happiness, he never received in life.

But seeing the little girl happy, he felt as if he was living his life through her. Her happiness was his happiness as this was how happy he imagined himself to be if he had received what he wanted.

The young boy patted the head of the little girl. Although they were related by blood, she had become like his little sister. Since his own family had abandoned him, he had created his own family.

The girl grabbed Raven's hand, making his palm face the sky. Although Raven was also very young, compared to the girl's little hands, his hands appeared to be much bigger.

With an innocent smile, the little girl placed the small coin in Raven's hand, closing his fist. She gave her life's first income to the young boy without even the slightest hesitation.

Raven looked at her in confusion, wondering why she had given him this coin. It belonged to her. It was something she received for her hard work. He didn't understand why she would give it to him.

She was about to return it to her, but the girl stood up. "Don't even think about returning it. This is your birthday gift. I wanted to get you a proper gift. But I couldn't get anything decent. I could only give this little piece of copper to you."

"But I promise you! I'll work even harder! And on your next birthday, I'll get you something really nice! So do look forward to it!" the girl smiled as she turned around and started walking away.

"I was born an orphan with no one to call family. With you, I don't feel so lonely anymore. So please don't abandon me." Her words echoed in the surroundings as she disappeared in the distance.

Raven glanced at the small copper coin in his hand, as if it was his most precious possession now. He could feel a faint warmth that went straight to his heart.

[Present Time]

Placing his hand in his pocket, Raven pulled out the small copper coin. Under the red hue of the moon, the copper coin shone brightly. However, at this moment, there was no warmth. All he felt was pain in his heart.

Today was the promised birthday. Yet the one who promised him was no more. All that was left was this coin that was still his most precious belonging.

"Lady Circe, can you free me now?"

Cain's voice came from behind as he still waited patiently to be freed. Even he couldn't break free once tied. It was even hard since his legs were tied to the bed.

Raven turned around. A clicking sound resounded in the silent room as he pressed on the silver pen, walking towards the man on the bed.

The man didn't know why, but he felt a chill run down his spine as he looked into those cold eyes that were like the doorway to hell.
