Not much else happened until the class was over. Since that was the only class they had for today, everyone was able to leave early.
Ryan made it home and went straight to his room to cultivate to form his core. Hours went pass until Ryan mom called him downstairs for dinner .
"How was school." She asked
Ryan explained everything he did today and how his friends was there too. When Ryan told her that Jessica was already middle of rank 1, Ryan had noticed she didn't seem surprised to hear that.
All she did was smile and said. "Not bad, she pretty talented. I know you like her," winking at Ryan. "when will you tell her how you feel?" Ryan mom ask in attempt to change the topic, knowing her son will subconsciously compare himself with her.
"We are just friends, she don't like me that way. She always calling me big brother" Ryan responded with a hint of annoyance in his tone, as he continue to eat his food.
The next day when Ryan made it to the academy gates, Jhon and Jessica waiting on him. They ate breakfast and talked until it was time for there first class.
Mr Richard started the class by getting straight to the point. "Soon you will be fighting each other and there a few things you should know before going around picking fights. A higher rank don't mean you will always win a fight. A person elements and techniques can close the gap between ranks. You might even get lucky and your element might be able to suppress your opponent element"
" At certain ranks a mage get there body tempered and cleanse by there core. The mage mana and body will become more powerful and pure than before. So if u fight a rank 2 at rank 1 its almost certain you will lose. Unless your element or martial techniques somehow manages to bridge the gap. Some martial art genius can cross ranks like that or if they have a unique element that is hard to counter.
From rank 2 to 3 the only difference is more mana than your opponent. Just like ranks, 4, and 5 . The big gap in ranks are at rank 1 to 2, rank 3 to 4 , rank 5 to 6 and rank 8 to 9. That where the different stages are at.
Normally people have bottle necks at ranks before the next stage and take a longer time to break through. The different stages are Novice, Apprentice, Mage, Advance mage, and Archmage.
Novice are for people at Rank 1. Apprentice for Rank 2 and 3, Mage Rank 4 and 5, Advance mage Rank 6 and 7, and Archmage Rank 8 and above"
Mr Richard continues to talk about fighting a little longer before changing the subject to cores.
" When a mage rank up there mana core there a chance for your core to instinctively form an Innate spell. Your core will automatically imprint a innate spell onto its self. Hopefully you like the innate spell you received because you can't get rid of it.
Most of the time the innate spells are better overall than spells you will find else where. Like if a fire mage get a innate spells for a fire ball. It will be stronger than the fire ball he got from someone else and imprint it."
It is not likely to form an Innate spell but you can increase the odds by having good understanding of your element. You would need to vist the library or wait until you in spellcasting class if you want to know more about innate spells."
If you haven't created a mana core yet, this will be helpful information. Some times mutation can occur if you form a core with more than 1 element. There are many Mutation out there and not all of them are necessarily a good thing either. All the big families have a form of mutation elements. It's risky to randomly try to form a mutated core if you don't have high affinity of the elements you try to combine.
Some kid raised there hand. "How to know if you got more than one high affinity."
"We don't have the equipment to check your affinity here but its not hard to find out what affinity you have in a certain element. Just see how fast you can pull the element into your body. The element that is the easiest for you to control, is your highest affinity.
You still should be careful to make sure the element you pick is the element you have the highest affinity with. Many people pick the first affinity they can use good and form a core. It may not be the highest affinity but it will be high enough to use. So to answer your question, the way to know if yo have more than 1 high affinity is to just find another element just as easy to use as your current one."
"The easiest way to form a mutated core is to get a cultivation manual for it. All the person have to do is to follow the manual and have a decent affinity. It's even possible to make a core with more than 2 elements it just harder. More elements at play, harder it is to control. You risk unbalance the energy and explode."
"The best things about having a mutated core is the mana you produce from the core will sometimes have more than one element characteristic."
A student raised his hand but Mr Richard just ignore it and said"If you asking what a mana characteristics is, I'm getting there.
Your mana will take a characteristic from the element you choose to form a core with. It's called aura, it really just water down mana from your core.
Your aura is not as energy filled like mana. That's why people use aura to perform martial arts skills instead of pure mana. You can only circulate very little mana in your body or it will start hurting.
The little mana you do circulate in the body is not enough to preform martial skills with. You can learn more at the library or in a different class. I'm not supposed to teach you these things."
The guy put his hand down and the teacher continued to talk. Time went past pretty fast for Ryan. This was all new knowledge to him his parents never went in depth at explaining any of this. The next thing Ryan knew the class was ending and the teacher saying that's it for today. Ryan went to his next classes and learn as much as he could.
1 week later.
Ryan sitting in class listening. "The tournament starts today. Hopefully yall train enough and no weapons will be used during the tournament. let's get going, and head there"
Ryan still haven't finished forming his mana core so there no chance for him to make it to the number 1 spot. The tournaments for all the classes take place all at the same time in this large stadium.
As the teacher walked them to the stadium Ryan and John was walking side by side. A bit after they entered Ryan started looking around to find Jessica. Just as he found her, Ryan can tell from the look on her face she seem to be upset. He have no idea of why she look so upset, all he could do was wait and ask her later.
They pick people at random by picking there badge numbers they had received to fight against each other.
Ryan wasn't the best fighter in his class but he could hold his own. When Ryan number got called, he hop on the stage to fight. There was no weapons aloud in this tournament, the teacher just wanted to see how skilled they are at without it.
It was a pretty boring looking fight, there was not much excitement. It was just a hand to hand combat fight and skill level was pretty low overall. They both couldn't control mana well enough to make use of spells or any martial skill. The lighting martial skill that Ryan dad got for him could only be learn after forming his core.
All they could do is circulate
mana in there body to slightly increase there strength or speed. It it take alot of stanima to do, so even that was rarely performed. It really not worth it to circulate mana into the body to fight if you don't have a core.
Ryan won 3 fights until he had to fight someone with an mana core. He didn't give Ryan a chance to do anything. He had earth type element and coated his arms in aura. Ryan try his best to avoid his punches but he was faster and had more mana to work with. Ryan knew he can't keep this up and It was just a matter of time before one of his punches connected.
10 seconds into the fight and he could not dodge the attack. Ryan was left with no choice but to block instead of dodging.
He put his arm in front of the punch but sadly the punch was to strong. He was sent sliding backwards towards the edge of the stage. Ryan felt a sharp pain in his arm.
He knew he had to give up after that punch, Ryan could tell from the pain the hit he block had did some serious damage to his arm.
He surrender and hop off the stage. He wasn't bothered about the lost, he never expected to win.
Just as Ryan was about to get his arm check out and healed. He saw Jessica finish her match with a win.
Some guy came up to talk to her when she got off the stage but she didn't stop walking and ignored him. The guy reach out his hand to stop her as soon as he touch her she turn and aimed a kick at his face. The guy caught it easily and said something but Ryan was to far away to hear anything. He let go of her leg and turned around. As Jessica face got even more angry as she turned and walk in the opposite direction of the guy.
Ryan watched it all from the distance debating if he should go talk to her now or after he get healed.
