Aboard a warship, Brontes recalled on everything concerning Saint Mjosgard.
In Mariejois, Saint Mjosgard was a rather notorious figure among the World Nobles, particularly famed for his pastime of collecting Fish-Men and mermaids as slaves.
The marine base at Sabaody Archipelago had already been ordered to coat a warship, but the process was slow.
Mjosgard had set sail, and catching up to him was nearly impossible, especially beneath the waves. In such conditions, reckless speeding could mean even Brontes might perish at sea.
Thus, the coating process could not be hastened. Brontes didn't head straight for Sabaody Archipelago after leaving Mariejois; he chose to stop by Marineford first.
Upon Brontes's arrival at Marineford's bay, the soldiers blinked in astonishment, then held their breath.
"Fleet-Admiral Ragnarok!"
The soldiers, busy moving supplies on the dock, halted their tasks and stood erect, saluting Brontes.
"Mm." Brontes acknowledged with a slight nod.
After Brontes left, the soldiers exhaled in relief and murmured excitedly among themselves.
Brontes's unexpected visit to Marineford took them by surprise; they were baffled, as Brontes was supposed to be in Mariejois, not here.
Brontes proceeded directly to Sengoku's office, where he encountered Garp sipping tea.
"Kid, you're here. Did you escape from Mariejois?" Garp asked in surprise, eyeing Brontes.
"No, just on a mission. I was passing through and thought to check in." Brontes responded, shaking his head and taking a seat.
Garp served him a cup of tea and said with a sneer: "They sent you on a mission, which means it's about the World Nobles, right? Come on, spill the beans. What mess have they gotten themselves into this time?"
"Shut up, Garp!"
Sengoku scolded. Garp's manner of speaking was too blunt, and with age, he had become more reckless.
If such comments reached the World Nobles, it could spell trouble for the entire Marine, not just Garp.
The World Nobles were vindictive and wouldn't let Garp off easily; if they couldn't reach him, they'd make other marines suffer.
"Tch!" Garp clicked his tongue but still awaited Brontes's reply with anticipation.
However, it wasn't just Garp who was eager to learn about Brontes's mission; Sengoku was also interested, feigning engagement with documents while his ears were fully attentive.
"One of the World Nobles has taken his entourage to Fish-Man Island without authorization." Brontes stated plainly, not concealing any details.
"Nani?!" Garp blurted out in shock.
"Just as I said. His previous Fish-Men slaves were freed by Fisher Tiger, and now he's intent on recapturing them. He had his ship coated in secret, and now he's en route to Fish-Man Island. I'm here because the ship at Sabaody Archipelago is still undergoing coating. It wouldn't be possible to catch up with them right away." Brontes sighed as he explained.
"He's not afraid of death, daring to run off to Fish-Man Island. Doesn't he fear being dealt with by the Fish-Men in secret?" Garp chuckled.
"Who knows? It's a simple matter. If he dies on Fish-Man Island, we'll deal with Fish-Man Island. If he dies at sea, who can we accuse? He can only blame himself." Brontes responded calmly.
"You're like the World Nobles' big housekeeper. It's good you come to Marineford when you can. We miss you here." Garp's tone took on a hint of seriousness.
"I will always be part of the Marine." Brontes replied with a smile, earning a nod of satisfaction from Garp.
"Are you heading to Fish-Man Island next?" Sengoku interjected suddenly.
"I have to. Even if he's dead, I need to bring back his body." Brontes said helplessly.
"Troublesome indeed." Sengoku muttered, scratching his head.
"Knock! Knock!"
After a while, a knock sounded at the door, and four men in marine coats entered the office.
The one in the lead spoke in a lazy tone: "I thought they were joking, but you really are here."
"Kuzan, you're here too? What a pleasant surprise." Brontes expressed, surprised to see Kuzan still at Marineford.
"It's been quiet lately. I'll rest a few days before heading out again." Kuzan replied.
"We're on rotation. Don't look so surprised; it's nice to see you again." Dalmatian said, approaching with a broad smile.
"Your Devil Fruit...!"
Brontes, observing Dalmatian's form, showed a look of pleasure.
"Hahaha, as you can see, I've reached the Awakening Stage. Following your advice to maintain this form indeed accelerated the development of my Devil Fruit abilities." Dalmatian laughed.
"Congratulations then." Brontes said, genuinely happy for his old friend.
Dalmatian's Devil Fruit is the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Dalmatian, a Zoan-type Devil Fruit. Zed had once said his growth would be limited.
But that was Zed's disdain for Devil Fruit powers speaking. In reality, Zoan-type users have a significant advantage in physical combat, as long as they develop it properly.
His current form was actually based on Brontes's advice. Even without it, Dalmatian would likely have figured it out eventually; Brontes's suggestion just expedited the process.
After spending about two hours with these old friends, Brontes received a message that the coating was nearly complete.
As Brontes was leaving, Kuzan walked him out.
"I heard there's a new Logia-type Devil Fruit user at Marineford?" Brontes asked.
"Yes, he's right here with me. This is Smoker, from the East Blue just like you." Kuzan said, gesturing toward a young man with white hair in a marine coat.
"Smoker, the Smoke-Smoke Fruit user, huh? His Devil Fruit lacks offensive power." Brontes assessed, shaking his head as he looked at Smoker.
Despite Smoker being a Logia-type user, his Smoke-Smoke Fruit wasn't as potent in terms of offensive capabilities as other Logia-type Devil Fruits.
.....
Not long after, Brontes's warship arrived at Sabaody Archipelago.
The Marine had dispatched two navigators with undersea sailing experience, as the marines don't usually take this route, so there aren't many navigators with undersea experience.
These two were specially trained by the Marine to handle various emergencies that might occur on this route.
"Sir, the warship is ready." A Rear-Admiral approached to inform Brontes.
"Thank you for your hard work, Rear-Admiral Mozambia." Brontes said with a smile.
Mozambia beamed with pride; he was from the same class as Kuzan and had also reached the rank of Rear-Admiral.
However, compared to the marines who graduated with Brontes, their strength was somewhat inferior.
The soldiers boarded the warship, and under the guidance of the two navigators, the warship began its descent into the depths of the sea.
As they entered the underwater realm, the scenery transformed, resembling the inside of a vast aquarium, which gave a sense of wonder in Brontes.
Initially apprehensive, Brontes soon realized that the two navigators were exceptionally competent.
His own knowledge of diving paled in comparison to theirs—it was like contrasting a soldier with an admiral. He decided it was best to heed their advice.
The unpredictability of the undersea environment soon became apparent when a giant fish, not a Sea King but a sizable mid-level sea creature, targeted their ship.
"Quick, turn the rudder, we need to avoid it!" One of the navigators instructed.
"No need." Brontes calmly interjected.
"Sir?" The navigator turned to Brontes, confusion etched on his face.
Without a word, Brontes extended his index finger, piercing the bubble coating of the ship. The puncture was minute, not enough to burst the bubble, allowing his finger to slip through effortlessly.
"ZliZli!"
As Brontes touched the water, he remained stoic. A mere finger in the water wielded power, but submerging his entire hand would be a different matter entirely.
The soldiers witnessed a sudden flash of lightning, momentarily blinding them with its intense brightness.
"It's done!"
When their vision cleared, Brontes had already retracted his finger. Looking towards the fish, they saw it floating motionless, belly-up, paralyzed by the lightning shock.
The lightning had not only stunned the giant fish but had also immobilized all sea life within several kilometers of the warship.
"Let's continue forward, we have to reach Fish-Man Island as soon as possible." Brontes commanded.
The two navigators, having observed Brontes's method for the first time, quickly acknowledged his order and resumed directing the soldiers on the diving procedures.
