Olivia stiffened beside Devon, and he wanted to smirk. She must have felt like he was referring to her as well. He had intentionally said that to make her fidgety, and she was.

"You, give me that ring," he ordered.

The guard slipped his hand into his pocket and took out the ring. As he handed it over, he wondered how it had left his finger in the first place. He allowed the guard to leave before finally turning to his mute servant girl.

"Yes?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "Anything else?"

She shook her head slowly, and he nodded.

"Good. Go do what you were about to do," he said. She couldn't shake off the fact that he had trusted her so easily. But that was just because he didn't want her to feel bad. It wasn't that he was in love with her or anything; he had no feelings for her. She was beautiful, no doubt, but his feelings for her stemmed from a deep-seated pity for her condition.
