Capítulo 33: SS Rank Monsters (1)
I looked below at the mountain that I was standing on. There were countless monsters standing still as if they were waiting for something.
Some monsters were eating; others were fighting each other. The monsters weren't eating other animals, as you would think they would.
They were eating each other. In the monster world, it was the survival of the fittest.
So if you weren't strong enough, you would get eaten. That was a harsh truth.
Cannibalism was a concept that didn't exist for the monsters. They were too stupid to think of a concept like that.
In front of the huge crowd of monsters, there were five humanoid-looking monsters communicating with each other.
"It is easier to find them when they stand out like that."
The SS rank monsters communicating with each other is something that I have gotten used to.
It shows that they have a certain amount of intelligence. At the same time, it also shows that there is a social hierarchy between the monsters.
The S-rank monsters, who could only say a few words, had a much lower ranking than the SS-rank monsters, who could fluently speak.
The SS-rank monsters would treat each other with a certain level of respect. Just like how a coworker would treat another coworker.
But in the last five years, not a single piece of new information about monsters has appeared.
The strong attack that we predicted five years ago never came. Only monster attacks on the same scale as the one back in the Hozora kingdom have appeared.
We thought that the monsters would be more intelligent than to send the same level of attack every time. But it seems like they will keep sending monsters at the same scale.
"There must be a hidden agenda."
There were around 2000 monsters below the mountain, but there was no movement.
It was like they were waiting for the SS-rank monsters to give the signal.
But the SS-rank monsters continued to talk with each other, as if they didn't want to invade the kingdom.
"It's weird."
Attacks like this have been common in the last 5 years, but every time we try to communicate with the monsters, the only result we get is insults or taunting.
We were even close to capturing one of the SS-rank monsters, but he exploded out of nowhere. We could only assume that he committed suicide.
This made us conclude that there might be important information that he didn't want to give. And the information was so important that he would rather commit suicide than say it.
The monster that broke the barrier five years ago never appeared again. So we have no idea what the motives of these monsters were.
I sighed.
"Well, let's just get this over with so I can go home."
I jumped down from the mountain, and as I hit the ground, a large dust cloud formed. And as the dustcloud disappeared, the five monsters locked eyes with me. At the same time, the monsters behind them started to get restless. However, they did not move from their spot.
"Is that a human?" A monster with four eyes and sharp fangs asked.
"He fits the appearance, so he must be." Another monster with long black hair answered.
'I fit the appearance?'. How did he know if he didn't have any eyes?
"How did he get here? I couldn't sense him at all." A female monster with three eyes asked, puzzled.
Another monster who had a massive muscular build with four arms palmed his fists.
"It doesn't matter because it was a death wish to appear in front of us."
Did they really all have to introduce themselves? Well, almost everyone did, except for that monster.
He had dark clothes and black hair. He looked like a regular, middle-aged man. If it wasn't for the sinister energy I felt, I would never have guessed that he was a monster. His collar covered his mouth and nose, only making his eyes visible.
All of the monsters were wearing some type of clothing. It wasn't the same as normal humans; it was slightly different.
Some were wearing leather, and others were wearing cotton. But the fashion was completely different. It had a dark feeling to it.
We locked eyes, and immediately his pupils flickered.
"How annoying." I said as I used my mana to block his attack.
A small, sharp dagger stopped right in front of me. It was made of black metal and was curved a little.
"To think you could use illusion magic."
In that moment, as we locked eyes, he used his magic to conceal the dagger. It was a good technique, but a weak attack.
"You are definitely going to be annoying, so I might as-"
The four-armed monster appeared in an instant, hurling his fist towards my face.
"It's a little rude to interrupt while I was talking." I said while blocking his fist.
His eyes widened as he used his other arm to attack me, but I also blocked that.
"You have to try a little harder if you want to kill me."
He raised his 3rd and 4th arm.
"Don't mock me, human!"
'That is more like it!'
He made a barrage of fists using his four arms, and I quickly let go of his fist as I blocked his continuous attacks.
A small dust cloud started to form because of the speed of the attacks.
Since he was using four arms, I had to be twice as fast to block them.
At the same time, in the corner of my eye, I saw two figures to the left and right.
My eyebrows furrowed.
'That's good teamwork'. This is not their first time fighting together.
'I should start to get serious.'
As they were about to attack, I quickly changed positions with the four-armed monster by turning his body.
They punched the four-armed monster, but it had no effect on him.
'Did they withdraw their punch at the last minute?' Or was the four-armed monster that much stronger?
Well, it doesn't matter because this fight was boring. Now that I had seen them fight, I already knew the result.
"Is this really how strong you guys are?" I asked.
I was disappointed by the strength that I saw. Each SS-rank monster could almost destroy a kingdom if there was no barrier or human to fight them.
For nomal people, meeting an SS-rank monster was like meeting a natural disaster.
Maybe it was because I have gotten that much stronger, but these monsters don't seem that strong anymore.
"Stop mocking us, human!"
The four-eyed monster rushed in anger.
"Don't attack!" The female monster yelled panickedly.
A small smile appeared on my face.
"Freeze"
