Capítulo 3: Am I in Heaven?

When the man on top of her looked up, hands grabbed the sides of his partner's head. Without wasting a second, the head spun fast enough to break the neck. There was even an audible crack that echoed within Keagan's mind. Blood dripped from the man's mouth, and his head was thrown to the side, the body following his fall.

"What the—" The remaining man saw a silhouette behind his partner. However, what horrified him was the glistening red eyes that bored through his soul. That one-second freeze cost him his life.

Swoosh! The woman behind the partner swung her hand and slapped the man off Keagan. His body drove through the grime, never to rise again. There were no more sounds or movements that followed.

Keagan was only watching from where she lay. When she stared at the man whose face was on the ground, she quickly noticed how the eyes stayed open, the lips not even reacting to the dirty water filling up the open mouth. The jaw even looked dislocated.

"Let's go. They won't stay down for so long," the woman said, but Keagan couldn't hear her anymore. Before she could reach out to pull Keagan up, the blonde had already passed out under the rain. The newcomer frowned at the sight.

"You used to not faint at the sight of the dead…"

'Wait for me… I will free you…'

Keagan woke up to another of those cryptic dreams. It was always a woman's voice saying those words… of how one should wait for her return for freedom. Then again, Keagan couldn't remember that voice from anywhere; neither could she find the line from any movie at all. Was it really said to her at all? Maybe she just heard it from someone else's dramatization.

She rolled to her side and felt the smooth sheets under her. Her hair was also left in loose plaits as if not imposing on her scalp while not letting her hair break and tangle under her. When she felt her hair pulled from her actions, she opened her eyes and saw her hand on the bed in front of her. A faint handprint-shaped bruise was on her wrist.

"What is this?" Keagan tried to sit up as fast as possible, but she felt pain in her back and buttocks as if she had fallen from a high place. "Ouw, why does my body hurt?"

Keagan reached behind her to feel her back, but her wrists also ached. In an instant, her body seemed to have remembered pain after waking up. The woman could only whine at the feeling. Was she run over by a truck last night? What actually happened?

That was when she began getting recollections of how Elijah kicked her out of the house. She also remembered how she got soaked in the rain… and then chased down by a pair of hungry fiends. That was why she had bruises on her body… That was why her body hurt.

"…wait, this place can't be the house of one of them… or a hospital…" Keagan looked around the room of classy white, gold, and pink. The four-poster bed, the high ceiling, and the glass chandelier made it look so regal and elegant. Keagan took a deep breath.

"…am I in Heaven? Gosh, why am I on a bed like a bride?"

Keagan said that first before looking down at her body. Unlike last night, she was wearing a loose-fitting pink nightdress that gathered just under the bust, creating a pocket for her breasts. Even if she was not wearing any brassiere, she didn't feel like the girls were hanging out. Underneath was a pair of white lace shorts instead of thin panties.

She then took a deep breath. "I must really be in Heaven. I'm dead. Those two men killed me for sure. Should that mean that I…?"

Knock, knock. Keagan looked up and saw the big pink doors meters away from her. The more she looked, the more scenarios played out in her mind. Would a well-built male walking half-naked speak to her? Would a prince accidentally barge in and see her like that? Keagan's imagination went on and on.

"…I can't believe I didn't even think of Elijah at the first moment…" Keagan remembered that she had a boyfriend. However, she realized that man might never want to see her again. Perhaps, she was nothing but good riddance now that she had passed away…

"Miss Allard, are you awake?" The voice of a maiden broke Keagan's fantasy. When she lifted her eyes again, she saw a young woman standing in front of the door, in a light blue dress with a white apron. Her hair was even braided into two tails that wrapped her head, the ends serving as the bangs. However, a white patch was on her face as if someone splashed hot water on half of it, but the skin turned white.

Keagan felt shy at the call. The maiden called her with such a sweet voice as if she were an angel. It was even followed by a few more words.

"Miss Allard, breakfast has been served. Please take it before it gets cold."

Keagan didn't know why she ended up in such a fancy place after death. Her Heaven looked like a castle renovated to cater to a more modern look. The hallways, once left unglazed, now had glass spanning from one end to the other. The floor was also warm from the heating system; it was even hot enough to be felt through Keagan's thick faux fur slippers.

She should have been asking around at this point, but she didn't want to lose the immersion. The mansion was more like a palace, and she must have become its princess. Even if she had a life she left behind, there was nothing much to it. She lost her boyfriend, her house, and her career long ago.

"Master, Miss Allard will be joining you."

The maid spoke and attracted Keagan's attention. When she was presented, Keagan smiled at the man at the head of the long table. Amid the breakfast food served to a modern family, the elegance of the man's hands screamed class and nobility. Even his sharp eyes were inherited from a vicious prince, and he didn't care if he stabbed her with them.

Silence. After three seconds of glancing at her, the man continued to eat in silence. Keagan, who was waiting for him to greet her—the princess in this castle, couldn't help but freeze her smile. Even in this Heaven, she was still ignored by her prince.

"Gephardt, how many times should I tell you not to leave clothes in my room? This is mine now." A woman came out from another door, visibly buttoning a man's long sleeve as she walked in. However, noticing that Keagan was already there, she stopped dead in her tracks.

Keagan's eyes almost fell out when their gazes met. After all, she was looking at no one else but Wren Chastain, Elijah's boss.
